The little girl left her house in Alencon at 6am with her backpack for a date with her boyfriend who lived a few streets away.
She was caught by two neighbours who were surprised to see her out so early and asked what she was doing.
The girl proudly told them she was going on a date with her boyfriend and that they were going to get married very soon. The neighbours took her to the local police station.
A police spokesman said: "She told us she needed to go urgently to her boyfriend that morning. He was expecting her.
"From her words we could conclude were she was living and where the house of her fiance was. The boy was two years older than she was and they were at the same school."
The girl's parents were shocked when she turned up back at her own front door with a police officer at 6.30am.
