Greetings,

I'm new to posting but I've been trolling for a while.

I thought I'd bring this case to attention because my guess is that this unidentified gentleman is an American citizen and I've nearly exhausted all my Canadian sources:
http://www.missingadults.ca/viewUAcase.php?case=ON-UM-2001-09-00028
He was found on a bench in an outhouse on a hiking trail in the Laurentian Hills/Algonquin Park area.

"Other items found with the bag include a luggage tag sticker from a Costa Rican domestic airline, a plastic laundry bag from Sutton Place Hotel in Toronto, and matches from Sheraton Hotel, W Hotels (American chain) and Barclay Hotel in Vancouver. There were also 2 protein bars from a G.N.C. store, more than likely from the States."

Lots of personal belongings but no id. How is that possible?? I've scoured the Canadian missing person sites from coast to coast and I can't find anything remotely close. Any ideas from the rest of you?

Here is an acutal photo of the man, its a bit graphic so be forewarned: http://s13.invisionfree.com/PorchlightCanada/ar/t167.htm

And a map of the Laurentian Hills area (Algonquin Park) http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&q=deep+river+ontario&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl

My first thought is that he may be a pilot or involved in the travel industry somehow with all those different hotel mementos, but the place he was found doesn't look like it's near any type of travel hub. Hmm.

The Costa Rican angle is strange but near impossible to find any information on. This article (http://www.ticotimes.net/dailyarchive/2004_12/daily_12_08_04.htm#story1 )
says that Costa Rica has a 'new' website dedicated to finding missing people: www.latinoamericanosdesaparecidos.org

However that latino website doesn't work for me. Wonder where else in Costa Rica can we look?

Another issue I've had with searching this file is that this man was found in September of 2001. There are an awful lot of missing people from September 2001. How many missing hikers do you guys know about?

Does it say which Costa Rican airline it was? My first thought is that he went to Costa Rica on vacation (or for work) and flew one of their airlines from the states (or Canada).

Hi Tom,

I have spent a ton of time looking for this guy too for the last few years. Hard to believe that no one is looking for him or that he is not listed somewhere. You have probably seen this already, but here is a link to the OPP Resolve Website. It has Post Mortem pics as well. The one on the left is more of a profile shot and I think it gives you a better perspective of what he looked like.

Rhyno,

Yes I'm aware of the OPP site and thanks for posting that link to his case. Its good to know that somebody else is working on this. The only answer I can come up with is that this gentleman is from outside of Canada/USA. I hope that latino missing persons site comes online again soon.

Sable, That is a good match. Alaska is not that far out of line from Vancouver (where he might have stayed)

About a year and a half ago when the latino site was up I searched through it high and low. I remember there were a ton of missing adults and children, but I did not see anyone who I figured would be a match. However, there were a lot of profiles that did not have any photos.

I think there is a resemblance between Charles Brian Gay and this gentleman. Here is the link to the Charley Project website. Its say he lived in British Columbia Canada in 2000 and was a geologist.

Finally the site works for me. It's layed out a little weird and most of the cases only date back a few years but hey, it was worth a shot. Furthur more to this I've sent an email to that website along with a link to the OPP file and asked for some assistance. Time will tell but surely if he's missing from South America those would be the people to ask.

His glasses were made by a company called "BADA" which is out of China. Here is the company profile: http://www.bada-glasses.com/about/about.asp Seems pretty mainstream. Dead lead there.

Spoke to a contact I have in law enforcement today who told me that this Laurentian Hills man is currently being compared to Emerson Grant Dobroskay missing from BC Canada in 1988. Here is the doe network casefile: http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/41dmbc.html

and once again the OPP file: http://www.opp.ca/unident/20050038.htm

I hope this pans out and I'll keep you all updated if I hear anything more.

Wow, I would never have really considered him especially because of the timing of his disapperance. There seem to be a few other things that are off as well, but I guess you never know. There is not a lot of info out there on Dobroskay. I found a link to an archive from the UBC newspaper from 1991 and it has a bit of info on his disappearance. It is on page 3 of the document.

Tom - the glasses might not be a dead link depending on what the company's market share was in 2001. If they were fairly new on the market, it might lead somewhere?

Anyway - I think you guys are doing great work!

Some news on this. I sent an email to the latino website a few weeks ago and today received a response. They are interested in publishing the case in Costa Rican Press so I have put them in touch with the OPP. Hopefully they can help them source the luggage tag and possibly some flight records. I'm feeling excited about this one. I think there may be a new sketch of the man on the OPP page.

A new (to me) picture is up on the OPP site. Looks totally different from the front headshot.
