GUILTY UK - Shannon Matthews, 9, Dewsbury Moor, West Yorkshire, Feb 2008

POLICE searching for missing nine-year-old Shannon Matthews said today a possible sighting of her near her home was “significant”.

Detective Superintendent Andy Brennan said an adult claims they saw the youngster between 9.15am and 9.30am yesterday - a few streets away from her home in Moorside Road, Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.

The officer said the last confirmed sighting of Shannon remains at 3.10pm outside her school on Tuesday afternoon.

Yesterday Shannon's mum Karen sobbed: “I just want my daughter back.”

Shannon — said to hate the cold and dark — went missing as she walked less than a mile home from swimming lessons on Tuesday.

MISSING Shannon Matthews had scrawled “I want to go and live with my Dad” on her bedroom wall, her anguished mum revealed yesterday.
The heartbreaking message in felt-tip pen emerged as police released CCTV of the nine-year-old captured just 15 minutes before she disappeared.
Timid Shannon, who is scared of the dark, has not been seen since leaving school at 3.15pm on Tuesday after a swimming lesson near her school.

Detectives are continuing the hunt for her today with underwater searches.

The searches will focus on the Dewsbury Moor area and an underwater team will investigate a pond in the vicinity.

A police operation involving 250 officers and desperate day-and-night searches by friends and relatives have failed to find her.

Cops, who fear she has been abducted, believe she may have set out to find her dad Leon Rose who lives ten miles away from her home.
Choking back tears, mum Karen, 32, of Dewsbury, West Yorks, said: “I noticed when I went into her bedroom after she went missing that in felt-tip pen under the light-switch she’d written: ‘I want to go and live with my Dad.’ I don’t know when she wrote it. I hadn’t seen it before. It was quite small and quite faint.
“I don’t know whether she set off there — all I know is I want my little princess, my little Shan, back.”
Karen and partner Craig Meehan, 22, raised the alarm when Shannon did not return home from school.
It was a foggy night and the temperature dropped to minus seven.
There had been a family bust-up after Shannon was wrongly accused of pinching cash from Karen’s purse. Leon, who lives in Kirkburton, West Yorks, with Shannon’s brother Ian, ten, said: “I’ve been told she wanted to live with me.

“It’s a long way and would take me a good hour and half to walk so you can imagine what it would be like for her little legs.”

OMG, look at her little FACE!! How sweet...her eyes look sad to me, though.

Prayers for Shannon...I pray she has just wandered away and hasn't met with anything foul. :(

THE HUNT to find missing schoolgirl Shannon Matthews intensified today when officers were drafted in to search bins along the route she would have taken home from school.
About 50 specialist police were brought in to help scour the bins as part of the investigation to find the missing nine-year-old from Dewsbury Moor, West Yorkshire, who failed to return home after a swimming trip last Tuesday afternoon.
Police said they were looking for anything which could lead them to the youngster’s whereabouts, particularly items of clothing and her distinctive boots.
Speaking at the scene, Chief Superintendent Barry South said: “We’re emptying the bins, checking the refuse to make sure there’s nothing there that could link us to Shannon’s whereabouts.
“Over the past week, we’ve recovered more than 500 items of property. I can say at this moment in time, we believe we’ve not found anything that links directly to Shannon.”

Volunteers scoured the moor all day in the hunt for Shannon, who was last seen on Tuesday after setting off alone from West Moor Junior School. CCTV images show her in distinctive pink furry Bratz boots.

Shannon had a family row early last week in which she was wrongly accused of taking money. The 4ft 1in girl, who has not gone missing before, had scrawled “I want to go and live with my dad” on her bedroom wall.
Cops fear she may have been abducted during a ten-mile cross-country walk to the home of her father Leon Rose, 29.
More than 250 uniformed police and 60 detectives are searching. Specially-trained officers are trying to coax her pals to tell them what Shannon has been saying in recent weeks.

Shannon does have such a sweet face. I'm afraid that she's probably been abducted, she's been missing six days now, we all know that the outcome is not looking good. I feel terrible for her parents, for their sake I hope they find her soon.

Shannon is just 9 years old with no place to go and no way to possibly care for herself. This just doesn't look good.

Prayers for young Shannon and her family.
