ALTON — Madison County prosecutors have filed first-degree murder charges against three people in the Dec. 28 death of 2-year-old Maxwell O. Eyer of Alton.

The suspects are the boy's father, Johnny A. Garcia, 24, of East Alton; the boy's mother, Linsey M. Eyer, 24, of Alton; and Jeanine E. Lansdon, 26, of East Alton, who was described by police as Garcia's girlfriend. All were in custody late Friday.

Alton Police Department Chief of Detectives David Hayes said the boy died of internal head injuries that could have resulted from shaking or a blow to the head.

Linsey Eyer took her son to the emergency room of St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton just after midnight in the early morning of Dec. 28. He was pronounced dead 20 minutes later.

This is the mother's myspace. She is on a page of a friend of mine. I kept seeing RIP Maxwell on a lot of people's spaces and was wondering what happened so I looked it up.

By Terry Hillig
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
An Alton woman pleaded guilty Thursday of child endangerment in the 2007 death of her 2-year-old son, Maxwell Eyer, in Alton.

Linsey Marie Eyer, 26, was awaiting trial on first-degree murder and other charges. She entered an “open” plea, meaning there was no agreement by prosecutors regarding disposition of the case. Eyer will be sentenced later.

Johnny Garcia, the boy’s father, was sentenced to 44 years in prison after pleading guilty of the murder. Jeanine Lansdon of East Alton pleaded guilty of child endangerment and was sentenced to a four-year prison term.

Woman gets 5-year sentence for role in toddler’s death
By Terry Hillig
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

ALTON – An East Alton woman was sentenced in Edwardsville today to five years in prison for endangering the life of a child who was fatally beaten by her former boyfriend.

Jeanine E. Lansdon, 28, pleaded guilty of the endangerment charge in November and could have received a prison sentence of as long as 10 years. Lansdon was one of three people accused of first-degree murder in the December 2007 death of 2-year-old Maxwell Eyer. Prosecutors agreed to dismiss the murder charge and a charge of obstructing justice in return for the endangerment plea.

A 26-year-old woman was sentenced Tuesday to five years in prison for child endangerment in connection with the 2007 murder of her son by her ex-boyfriend, the boy's father.

Linsey Marie Eyer of East Alton said she made terrible choices that led to the death of 2-year-old Maxwell Eyer. She said she loved but feared the boy's father Johnny Garcia...

Eyer left Maxwell overnight with Garcia and Lansdon in December 2007, although she had been told by officials of the state's Department of Children and Family Services to keep the boy away from Garcia after Maxwell suffered suspicious injuries while with his father three months earlier.
