BREAKING NEWS (I didn't put this in crimes as it's just a sighting right now...)

In an emergency crime alert posted at 4:47 p.m. on the university's Web site, emergency officials said the man, described as Caucasian, 6 feet tall, wearing a black Pink Floyd T-shirt with a rainbow prism on it – was seen in the area of Appalachian South Apartments and the Hill Street area.

He was reportedly carrying a small black handgun and wearing a black or blue ski mask, red and green tennis shoes, according the Web site.
There have been no shots fired and no injuries reported. (more at link)

Boone, N.C. — Appalachian State University has returned to normal status. Students were being allowed to leave buildings as of 6:32 p.m. and no further sightings of a gunman have been reported, officials said.
The university put all campus buildings on lockdown and urged students and staff to stay away from an area near campus after reports of a masked gunman.

This is the college my daughter wants to goto.I just read her the article and she was like "ummm I don't know know if I want to go there now!"

I told her that this can happen anywhere and at least Appalachian State were quick to take action in trying to keep everyone safe.

I hate that our children have to even worry about things like this happening :(

It is sad that our children have to worry about shootings at school...no matter what age. :(
 
Appy State is located just 30 minutes from where I work. We are a mechanical contractor and have a contingency of about 35 men working on campus at any given time. This "alert" has prompted me to find out what our guys need to do in this type of situation. It's very scary indeed. I dread the day I ship my girls off to college.
 
I know, lesleegp! Between giving them warnings about locking doors and staying alert for rapists etc., they have to be on alert for mad gunmen.
 
It is a beautiful campus. My ex and my sister are alumni and my middle daughter is there now.
 
Maybe it was a bitter Michigan student. App U humiliated the wolverines in football last fall.

Yes we both saw that video hehehe so corny.Hot,hot hot hehehe.

Our children have to be aware of so many things its scary.All ages.Its just sad.
