A man made a gruesome discovery on Saturday afternoon when he found skeletal remains near a Sacramento County levee. The man was reportedly fishing near the levee in Isleton when he stumbled across the remains in dense brush.

Sacramento County detectives began investigating the scene near Highway 160 and have determined that the remains are of an adult woman, and the condition of the bones suggests that they had lain there for at least one year.

In March, the skeleton remains of a woman were found in this heavy brush area on Tyler Island Road near Isleton. More than a month later, detectives still can't identify her.

They're opening the evidence and showing us what they've got.

There's a frog necklace which was around her bones. "Something that people would remember rather than just a normal necklace."

There's also a sweatshirt; blue, hooded, with a very distinctive emblem, Delta Fire Crew Number 5 with two fireman axe. A jacket with Grateful Dead emblems was also found.

I think that this is an update on these skeletal remains found...

Why don't they take pics instead of showing us video of the items? We need details!

On the video they say they can say this much about the skeletal remains:
caucasian/hispanic woman in 30's, between 5'1" and 5'8"

Surely someone knows who wore a jacket like that. Wish we knew the size etc.
The necklace is interesting, but we need a picture!!

On the video, they cut to the man saying this about the emblem/sweatshirt: "this sweatshirt places her from that area somewhere". I'm assuming they know where that is, but they don't say on the video!

So I found this about "Delta Fire" but not much more:

Delta, British Columbia

For individual Fire Hall addresses, refer to The Fire Halls of Delta pages:
So maybe she's from Canada? Or maybe it was just a nice jacket she bought at a resale shop. :(

Does the necklace look like the frog is made of stone? Does it look macrame-ish to you?

I have to run, but I think we should ask the Sheriff to take good pictures of these items and post them somewhere. And let us know what Delta Fire means to them as well, if they can share that info.

The "Delta" is what the area she was found in is called... so I'm guessing it means she was from the area around the delta which is several cities/counties.

<snip>
"The Delta is located in Northern California and is called the "Delta" because it forms a triangle of waterways from Sacramento (North) to Stockton (South) to Pittsburg (West)."

Thank you, Anakerie. I was getting ready to email them asking for still photos of the clothing and jewelry.

The Sacramento paper has another article about this case today:

Detective says woman's identity could be key to solving 4 year old slaying

On another board I post on, one of the other posters found a reference to a Delta 5 Fire crew on a MySpace page. He's sent the MySpace person a message and is hoping to hear back from him/her. He also sent a link to the pictures of the clothing and necklace to the person. I'll relay any information he gets... If he gets any.

Hi all,

I have been posting about this case on another board.

Using MySpace I located the Delta Fire Crew # 5. I sent a message to the person who mentioned it in a post at the CCC (California Conservation Corp.) MySpace web-site. He got back to me and sent me his phone number. I called him and confirmed that this sweatshirt was in fact from his fire crew. It was made in 2004, and only 20 or so were made. In fact he was wearing his when I called him, and he was the person who picked them up from the silk screeners. He also gave me a second person and phone number to contact.

At that point I gave myself 48 hrs to decide how to proceed. I decided that as only a small number were produced and anyone who got one was a potential suspect that the best course of action was to contact the Sacramento County Sheriff's office homicide division. I did so and after a few days of phone tag was able to give the homicide detective in change of this case the information about the sweatshirt as well as the names and contact phone numbers.

I am now trying to find out about the "Grateful Dead' jacket.

I did a blog entry for it and have posted my message on a number of Grateful Dead fan sites and pages.

Wondering if you've heard anything? Great job tracking that down!

Sacramento County Sheriff's detectives said they hit a roadblock with another state agency in their search for answers, forcing them to take their case to court and get a search warrant to obtain information from the California Conservation Corps.

Detectives served the warrant Monday, seeking the names and personnel files of employees who worked for the Delta Fire Crew #5, a unit that was part of the CCC from 1997 until 2005.
