Vital Statistics

* Estimated age: 18 - 30 years old
* Approximate Height and Weight: 5'4"; 122 lbs.
* Distinguishing Characteristics: Brown eyes; brown hair. Acne scars were visible on her face. Well-nourished build with large breasts. Her feet were size six and she wore black toenail polish.

Case History
This young woman stepped onto Pacific Coast Highway on April Fools' Day, 1990. She was struck first by a Mazda MX-6, then a Lincoln Continental. She died instantly.
When a sketch of her was published in local newspapers, several Huntington Beach residents said they had spoken with her.
Her first name may have been Andrea and she may have been from the East-Coast.

Ok, I know this is very much a long shot but I think Jane Doe and Amy Billig look alike.

Note: There are lots of threads here in Websleuths where they have suggested that Amy Billig looks like the unidentified woman "The lady in the dunes" and I also found a website where someone is convinced she is an unidentified woman found in 1987 http://www.thrashinc.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&p=9325

I'm hoping this thread doesn't turn into "matches for Amy Billig" as its intended to try to identify the Jane Doe, located in California. I will post a link on one of Amy's threads, here in Websleuths, about the suggested match.

Note: Lots more pics and lots of information about the search for Amy at link.

<modsnip>
Amy on left and right, Jane Doe in center
NOTE: These photos are of Amy at 17... you have to imagine her older at 33 to match the sketch.

Amy Billig
Missing since March 5, 1974 from Coconut Grove, Dade County, Florida.
Classification: Non-Family Abduction

# Vital Statistics Date Of Birth: January 9, 1957
# Age at Time of Disappearance: 17 years old
# Height and Weight at Time of Disappearance: 5'5, 110 pounds
# Distinguishing Characteristics: White female. Brown wavy hair; brown eyes.
# Marks, Scars: Scar on abdomen
# Clothing: A short blue denim skirt and cork platform sandals.
# Dentals: Available

1. No one knows what really happened to Amy. Various people have told stories about Bikers. Some saying she was sold, others saying she died the evening she disappeared. None have been substantiated. The Billig's have been the victims of hoaxes during their long search for their daughter.

2. Amy disappeared in 1974 at the age of 17. She would have been 33 in April of 1990. This is 3 years older than the age estimate for Jane Doe (18-30).

3. Amy and Jane Doe had brown hair and brown eyes.

4. Amy is listed as 5'5" and Jane Doe is listed as 5'4"-a 1" difference is a close match for me.

5. There is no mention of an abdomen scar on Jane Doe, but we don't know how big Amy's scar was, so this is inconclusive to me.

6. Amy disappeared from Florida. It was reported that Jane Doe possibly went by the name of Andrea and may have been from the East Coast.

7. Jane Doe was hit by cars on a hiway.... it was speculated that Amy was with Bikers (I know this is weak but....)

8. In some photos of Amy there appears to be acne blemishes around her chin area - as indicated on the sketch of Jane Doe. Unsure though as it may just be the photo or the timing of when the photo was taken.

9. Human hair ring that Jane Doe was wearing is an unusual item. Could it be something she made? Some sort of love token? An item that was created to get evidence of an abductor?

10. Although its reported on some sites that Amy Billig had perfect teeth, that has been refuted on other sites. Amy did not have major dental work done but there was some. Also, it was on her top front teeth. Jane Doe's reported dental work is similiar in description, but there isn't enough info.

This is another long shot as Dean is thought to have been abducted. What if she left with someone?

Dean in 1980 (13yrs)........Jane Doe (2001)

Dean Marie Pyle Peters
Missing since February 5, 1981 from Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan.
Classification: Non-Family Abduction

# Vital Statistics Date Of Birth: September 24, 1966
# Age at Time of Disappearance: 14 years old
# Height and Weight at Time of Disappearance: 5'3" (160 cm); 110 lbs (50 kg)
# Distinguishing Characteristics: White female. Brown hair; brown eyes.
# Clothing: A brown ski jacket, pink sweater, blue jeans and a cream colored scarf with the word ski written on it in dark brown lettering.
# Dentals: Available

Circumstances of Disappearance
Pyle Peters was last seen outside of a local middle school where she attended her brothers wrestling tournament in Ada, Michigan, a town outside of Grand Rapids.
Peters, an eighth-grader at Forest Hills Central Middle School, was last seen by her mother about 4:45 p.m. when she excused herself to go to a restroom during an after school program at the school.
School principal Ted Culver said he contacted students that night whom he thought may have seen the girl late Thursday afternoon. He said not one of the students could place her near the school restrooms.
Her wallet and make-up were left at home. Peters never went anywhere without her make-up.
Police could find no reason for the disappearence. They did not detect any family problems at home.

************************
1. No one knows what really happened to Dean. She went to the restroom and disappeared. There is no evidence that she ran away, and she left her belongings at home.

2. Dean disappeared in 1981 at the age of 14 yrs. This would make her 23 yrs in 1990, which matches the age estimate for Jane Doe (18-30).

3. Dean and Jane Doe had brown hair and brown eyes.

4. Dean is listed as 5'3" and Jane Doe is listed as 5'4"-a 1" difference is a close match for me. Also, if this is Dean she could have grown an inch during her teenage years.

5. Dean disappeared from Michigan. It was reported that Jane Doe possibly went by the name of Andrea and may have been from the East Coast. Michigan isn't on the coast - but it is east.

6. Human hair ring that Jane Doe was wearing is an unusual item. Could it be something she made? Some sort of love token? An item that was created to get evidence of an abductor?

7. I couldn't find any dental information on Dean.

Jane Doe on left, Paula on right

Paulette Susan Jaster
Missing since May 5, 1979 from Davison, Genesee County, Michigan.
Classification: Endangered Missing

Vital Statistics

* Date Of Birth: January 9, 1954
* Age at Time of Disappearance: 25 years old
* Height and Weight at Time of Disappearance: 5'4"; 115 lbs.
* Distingishing Characteristics: White female. Brown hair; hazel eyes. Slender to medium build.
* Dentals: Available
* Marks, Scars: Scar on crown of head, gray mark from pencil lead embedded on left cheekbone below eye.
* Medical Conditions: Jaster occasionally suffered from periods with mental illness.
* Clothing: She was wearing blue jeans and was carrying an army-style duffelbag. She also wore a ring with a turquise stone and a silver ring with a stone of unknown color.
* AKA: Paula Johnson,Paula Breck, Paulette Breck, Paula Lynn Sweet

Circumstances of Disappearance
Jaster was last seen in Davison, Michigan sometime in May of 1979. She left Michigan and was last seen headed toward Highway 69. She was sighted in Mesa, AZ during 1980.

She worked at WAG's Restaurant (in Walgreen's) and Paul Perry's Smorgee Table early in 1980, both in Mesa, Arizona. It is believed that she may have been traveling to Florida. Jaster was known to have bouts with mental illness, and is very creative and artistic, loves unusual jewelry, animals and anything "natural". Jaster has never been seen or heard from again.
A cursory search of Social Security databases showed no evidence of Jaster or any of her known aliases in recent years.

1. Paula is known to have been alive after she was reported missing. Although the trail was lost in 1980 she could have still been alive in 1990.

2. Paula disappeared in 1979 at the age of 25 yrs. She would have been 36 in April of 1990. This is 6 years older than the age estimate for Jane Doe (18-30). This is a big discrepancy.

3. Paula and Jane Doe had brown hair, Jane Doe is listed as having brown eyes while Paula's are listed as Hazel. - to me this is a match.

4. Paula and Jane Doe are listed as 5'4".

5. There is no mention of a pencil lead scar on Jane Doe, but it sounds tiny. It may have been noted but not reported.

6. Paula disappeared from Michigan. It was reported that Jane Doe possibly went by the name of Andrea and may have been from the East Coast. Michigan is not on the coast, but it is east. Paula had many aliases but usually used Paula as a first name - is it possible she switched to Andrea and that's why her trail went cold in 1980? Also Paula was sighted in Arizona in 1980.

7. Jane Doe was hit by cars on a hiway.... Paula was known to have bouts of mental illness. Could that explain why Jane Doe was on the hiway?

8. Human hair ring that Jane Doe was wearing is an unusual item. Could it be something she made? Some sort of love token? An item that was created to get evidence of an abductor? Paula was VERY interested in unusual jewellery and all things natural. Perhaps she made the ring?

9. The is no information available about Paula's teeth.

In order for it to be this girl, a lot of information would have to be incorrect... therefore, I really don't believe it is her, but I felt I should post the reasons why I eliminated her.

Martha Wes Dunn
Vital Statistics at Time of Disappearance
# Missing Since: September 5, 1990 from Daingerfield, Texas
# Classification: Endangered Runaway
# Date Of Birth: June 22, 1975
# Age: 15 years old
# Height and Weight: 5'4, 95 pounds
# Distinguishing Characteristics: Brown hair, brown eyes.

Details of Disappearance
Dunn was last seen in Daingerfield, Texas on September 5, 1990. Authorities believe she left of her own accord. Dunn has never been heard from again. She may be traveling with a male companion. Her case remains unsolved.

************************
1. Martha was last seen, in her hometown in September 1990. Since Jane Doe died in April of 1990 at first it would seem that this could not be her. What if the person who saw Martha was mistaken and it only looked like Martha?

Since this is such a big discrepancy it really elimates her... but... read on...

2. Martha disappeared in 1990 at the age of 15. She would have been 3 years younger than the age estimate for Jane Doe (18-30). Another big discrepancy.

3. Martha and Jane Doe had brown hair and brown eyes.

4. Martha and Jane Doe are listed as 5'4".

5. Martha is believed to have left on her own. She was last seen in Texas, and she was travelling. Since she was from Texas also, this would underscore a non match as it was reported that Jane Doe possibly went by the name of Andrea and may have been from the East Coast.

6. Since only some of the information matches I don't feel that Jane Doe is Martha. The photos and the age progression photo (used as a reference for bone structure, etc) do seem to match the sketch though.

I don't think Jane Doe is Doreen but the photos and some other info looks enough like her to post.

Doreen on left and right (age 12), Jane Doe center

Doreen Jane Vincent
Missing since June 5, 1988 from Wallingford, New Haven County, Connecticut
Classification: Endangered Missing

# Vital Statistics Date Of Birth: September 30, 1975
# Age at Time of Disappearance: 12 years old
# Height and Weight at Time of Disappearance: 5'4; 110 pounds
# Distinguishing Charactersitics: White female. Brown hair; hazel eyes.
# Marks, Scars: Vincent has a small mole on her abdomen. Her ears are double-pierced.

Circumstances of Disappearance
Vincent was last seen leaving her family's home during the evening of June 15, 1988.

*************************
1. I think the photo of Doreen looks like the sketch of Jane Doe.

2. Doreen was last seen leaving the family home. Did she run away? Abducted? Its not indicated. She would have been missing for almost 2 years to be Jane Doe, who died in April of 1990.

3. Doreen disappeared in 1988 at the age of 12. She would have been 14 in 1990, which is 4 years younger than the age estimate for Jane Doe (18-30). Another big discrepancy.

3. Doreen and Jane Doe had brown hair, Jane Does eyes are listed as brown, Doreen's eyes are listed as hazel.

4. Doreen and Jane Doe are listed as 5'4".

5. Doreen is from Connecticut, which is east, I could find no connection to the name Andrea. It was reported that Jane Doe possibly went by the name of Andrea and may have been from the East Coast.

6. Doreen had double pierced ears, while there is no mention of pierced ears on Jane Doe, although they do mention rings. This is likely another big discrpancy

7. There is no mention of the mole Doreen has, but it was indicated as small, so perhaps it was noted but not reported?

This one just stands out as a match, IMO. Not only info...but look at the nose....so much alike!

Unidentified White Female
  • Died on April 1, 1990 in Huntington Beach, Orange County, California as a result of a traffic-related accident.

Vital Statistics
  • Estimated age: 18 - 30 years old
  • Approximate Height and Weight: 5'4"; 122 lbs.
  • Distinguishing Characteristics: Brown eyes; brown hair. Acne scars were visible on her face. Well-nourished build with large breasts. Her feet were size six and she wore black toenail polish.
  • Dentals: Her teeth showed signs of previous orthodontics and she had received dental care shortly before her death. Expensive porcelain dental work. Restorations on back of top front 4 teeth. Dental records and fingerprints are available.
  • Clothing: She was wearing a black cotton dress; a red, long-sleeved shirt; fishnet stockings; a pink sweater; a size 40 D bra; and pink shoes, with the price tags still on. A ring made of human hair was located on her left ring finger. She carried a smooth black stone, and a motel key inscribed with No. 218. She carried no identification and no credit cards.

She had no permanent home in Orange County. One of the people who had spoken with her said she claimed to be adopted and was trying to find her real family. She said she was from somewhere like Virginia. And she told another person she was from New York. She claimed that she was 25 or 26. But she appeared to be as young as 16.
"Andrea" also spent a night at the home of a mobile-home salesman who took pity on the homeless woman who had few articles of clothing and no money. The family fed her, gave her the back bedroom and gave her some money. "Andrea" apparently took the money and bought clothes at a Goodwill store, including a pair of shoes for $19.95. She was wearing the pink shoes with the price tags still on when she was struck on the highway by two cars.
Her parents, she claimed, were pretty well-known, but she didn't divulge who they were. She had been adopted at a very young age. She didn't have any type of identification. The salesman said the morning "Andrea" left his house, she cut off some of her hair and put it on her finger.

I wonder if this was thought to be a suicide or she stepped out onto the highway and did not see the cars coming?

Porcelain dental work would have to be costly; with the age not pinpointed exactly, she could have been a runaway, kicked out, or throwaway kid. If those were any of the case, her family may not be looking. As for her saying that she was adopted by well known people, it could have been just a spiel as well as her name "Andrea" she gave them. A lot of street kids will make up fake names and go by those. Her having black toenail polish, it could be possible she was involved in the Goth or Punk subculture back then.

I hadn't noticed that about the nail polish but well anyone puts black nail polish. It's rarer on the toe nails but it was getting more popular by then. Yes, I dk about the adoption story, I was thinking she could have invented this story just so that people took pity on her. I don't think she was kicked out or thrown away though. I think actually if she said 25 or 26, that might have been her age, when I was 14-16 and claimed to be older I went with 18-19, 25-26 was much too old lol.

The hair ring is odd. The only references I could find to rings made of human hair was in regards to mourning rings. Rings, (among other jewelry) were made with a small lock of hair (or sometimes entirely of hair) of a deceased loved one back in the 17th and 18th century. These items were worn by close family members to signify the mourning process. Obviously the tradition is no longer active today in mainstream society, but possibly popular in subcultures such as Wicca, Emo, Gothics etc. in 1990? (Please do not take offence to anyone belonging to any of these groups, I am naive and clueless about any of their practices) If she was planning suicide, could it have been a way of her mourning her own impending death? Shucks, I don't know what to think about this poor girl.

I think it's more possible that she did it because she was planning her suicide. I've been a Pagan for over 15 years and I've never heard of it being done in connection with any Pagan observation. I know more Wiccans, Goths and Emos than you could shake a stick at and it's not something I've ever heard of in that context. Now, it very well could be that she was into the Goth thing and read about mourning jewelry. But, I don't think it's connected any moreso than that. Was it found on her when she died? The man mentions it, but I don't recall it being part of what was found on her body.
