FWIW, IIRC, Jessee Ross and Matthew Soumakis stayed at the same hotel. Interesting that several of those missing were staying at a downtown hotel, they were there from out of town.

Also, Brian Welzien

http://footprintsattheriversedge.blogspot.com/2006/11/brian-welzien-21-chicago-il.html

However, police called the circumstances of Welzien's disappearance suspicious,'' and one investigator has said it is ”the most perplexing case'' he has ever handled.

............snip..............

Police also wonder whether he could he have wandered the few blocks east to Lake Michigan. Crossing eight lanes of traffic on Lake Shore Drive to get to Lake Michigan would be a formidable task even for a sober person, police say, though he might have found the tunnel underneath the drive at Division Street, which is more plausible.

Jacket of missing Northwestern student found
Associated Press - November 14, 2008 4:04 AM ET

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) - Authorities at Northwestern University say a university police officer has found a jacket belonging to missing freshman Trevor Boehm on some rocks along the Lake Michigan shore.

The 20-year-old Boehm was reported missing Nov. 5 when his parents arrived from Monument, Colo., for Parents' Weekend and could not find him.

The university says the jacket found Thursday morning contained Boehm's student identification card, keys, cell phone and other personal property.

After the discovery, university police contacted the Evanston Police and Fire Departments and the U.S. Coast Guard, which began a search of the area by boat and helicopter.

Boehm is described as 5-foot-10 and 145 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Robert Emmett Hosty, Jr., born July 3, 1980, disappeared June 15, 2008, found deceased on the shores of Lake Michigan in Covert Township, Michigan. His sandals were found on the beach.

I noticed that Robert (BOBBY?) had a shamrock tattoo.
He was from a tight knit Irish Catholic family
One of his hangouts was Happy Village

I cannot find information on whether or not anyone has been held responsible for this man's death. I found the shamrock tattoo to be a sad thought, as shamrocks generally symbolize luck (o' the Irish)

Could this be connected to the other young men who have drowned and died under mysterious circumstances? (Apologies if this has been posted here somewhere in the past. I searched the name and found nothing, so I felt it safe to inquire.)

Robert Hosty Jr (27) was found dead on the banks of Lake Michigan
http://mydeathspace.com/article/2008/09/15/Robert_Hosty_Jr_(27)_was_found_dead_on_the_banks_o f_Lake_Michigan

From all accounts it sounds like either suicide by drowning or accidental drowning but I could not find anything that followed up on his death.

Re: Robert Hosty Jr (27) was found dead on the banks of Lake Michigan
I found this but it really doesn't answer the question of accident or suicide.

CPS Teacher Disappears In Michigan; Search Continues

WMAQ-TV
updated 8:17 a.m. CT, Mon., June. 23, 2008

CHICAGO - Authorities are searching for a 27-year-old teacher who has been missing since June 16, when he was last seen inside his family's lakefront residence near Coloma, Mich. Robert Hosty was last seen wearing blue-striped pajama pants, an orange T-shirt with "blame rob" text across the chest in white lowercase type and a green White Sox baseball cap. Hosty, who is about 6 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 210 pounds, has curly brown hair and brown eyes.

Hosty is a teacher at Roberto Clemente High School. His family lives in River Forest. He is the nephew of Illinois Sen. John J. Cullerton.

According to a police news release, Hosty may be suffering from sleep deprivation related to recent stress and may be disoriented. His family is hopeful he may have returned to Chicago and doesn't realize they are looking for him.

Anyone who believes they have spotted Hosty should call the Berrien County Sheriff's Department at 269-983-7111.
Another article mentioned a storm the night he went missing.

A relative of Forest Park Commissioner Mark Hosty has been missing since Sunday when a storm system swept through Berrien County, Mich., where the commissioner's second-cousin was visiting a family-owned cabin off Lake Michigan. About 30 people, according to Hosty, are searching for the missing 27-year-old, who lives in River Forest.

Robert Hosty Jr. was last seen by relatives at about 3 a.m. June 15. His sandals were found on a beach near the cabin, according to Mark Hosty, but there has been no sign of the missing individual.
Drowning was the COD.

Autopsy confirms Hosty drowned

An autopsy confirmed late last week that drowning was the cause of death for Robert Hosty Jr., the River Forest resident whose body was found June 29 on a Michigan beach.
And yet another comment here:

UPDATE: Rob Hosty's body was found on the beach about five miles north of his family's summer home on Lake Michigan. An autopsy determined the cause of death was drowning. His family says he loved swimming in the waves; he was likely drawn to the choppy water during the high wind storm that blew through the area in the early morning hours the day he disappeared. Unfortunately, the undertow was brutal that day.
Part of the notice on his memorial Myspace that made be cry:

We are deeply saddened to share with all of you that Robert Emmett Hosty Jr. passed away on Sunday, June 15.

Lake Michigan took his life and returned him to us on June 29.

His ashes will be returned to Lake Michigan so that his spirit may forever live upon the waves in which he so loved to play.
RIP Robert

I found the above information on another website. I hope it's o.k. to repost this information here. From what I could piece together ..... (without knowing how the sandals were placed or if they ever found his missing black back pack)
It stands to reason that he very well may have, between the hours of 3:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., made a poor decision to go swimming in the rough waters while being sleep deprived. It seems as tho his family stated that he loved to swim in the lake and may have been drawn to the huge surf that morning. That being said.... He was found 5 miles north of where the cottage was located and I know nothing about the behavior of Lake Michigan or its rip tide currents. It may be of interest to track other drownings and see if this is along a driving route between drownings.

Here are the quick details. He went Missing on Feb 28th 2010 and her was found Mar 2nd 2010 In the Little Calumet River at 126th and Stony Island. He was last seen at his Columbia College dorm at 500 S. State st. that was on the 28th. He was also going to a party that night some where off the Addison Red Line stop. His girlfriend received a text from him in the morning saying that he spent the night there. The body of the 20-year-old Columbia College student was found in the Little Calumet River naked from the waist down, according to police. Also Polhill’s autopsy report describes “extensive skull fractures” on both sides of his head and a broken neck bone.

Last thing I heard this was not classified as a homicide yet. Some things stick out that it is. There is one weird coincidence, Stony Island dead ends at E. 126th st. or what would be E 126th st., it stops at S. Torrence ave. the other side of the river, at the Ford plant. But where Stony Island dead ends at is a pond called Dead Stick Pond.

Other facts living in Chicago I know this area. It is an industrial area, just to the north of where he was found is Lake Calumet. It is part of the Port of Chicago, but only has a grain elevator in it. This area is also the point where the Little Calumet River and the Calumet Sag Channel join up flowing west about 10 miles towards the Des Plaines river. There are no houses that are close to the river, the closest ones are about a half mile away. The closest bridge with traffic would be E.130th Just south of there are a set of locks. The next closest would be S. Torrence about half a mile away. Following the river north the next closest is E.106th st. This is an area that sees a good number of ships passing through here, Most of them are big cargo ships.

Another thing, that stuck out once I heard where he was found, that is a long way from his dorm and the party on Addison. Addison is at 3600 N. and his drom was at 500 S. State. Those not from Chicago all our addresses are base on the grid system, with State and Madison being the dividing lines. State runs north and south and Madison east and west. So Addison is 36 blocks north of Madison and 9 blocks west of State St (the red line is at 900 west)., and His dorm was 5 blocks south of Madison. So at 126th and Stony Island, 121 Blocks south of the dorms and 157 Blocks south of Addison that is about 20 miles from Addison St. Also getting to that area is hard since there is just about no public transportation in that area. The Metra Electric stops at E. 95th St. The closest CTA bus is 1 mile away. and its a 2 hour trip down there in no traffic.

He had to have been dumped in the river on the 2nd and not have been in the water that long.

Loyola: Body in Belmont Harbor is missing student
Chicago police say a body was recovered at Belmont Harbor in Chicago.
By Sally Ho and Michelle Manchir Tribune reporters
1:15 p.m. CDT, July 4, 2013

A body recovered from Belmont Harbor this morning is a Loyola graduate student who has been missing since last weekend, the university says in a statement.
The body was spotted around 9 a.m. near 3500 N. Belmont Harbor Dr., according to police.
Authorities said earlier today that the body was tentatively identified as Christopher Evans, 25, who disappeared after leaving friends at a Lakeview bar early Sunday morning. His car was later found near Broadway and Cornelia Avenue, about a block from the harbor.
A missing person alert issued for Evans was cancelled shortly after the body was found, with police saying Evans was "no longer unaccounted for." Officials said they were awaiting postive identification from the family.
But Loyola said in a statement posted on its website this afternoon that "it has been confirmed that the body of Christopher Evans has been found at Belmont Harbor in Chicago."
Loyola spokeswoman Maeve Kiley said campus security was informed by Chicago police that the identity had been confirmed.
An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
Evans' family said he became nervous and told his friends that he had to leave Roscoe's bar, 3356 N. Halsted St., immediately early Sunday morning.
“He got very paranoid and didn’t want anybody around him,” said Christopher’s father, Michael Evans, who lives in Evergreen Park with his son. “He just ran off away from where he was.”
Michael Evans said the behavior was not typical for his usually laid back, who frequently visits Chicago to meet up with friends on weekends.

Earlier today, the family had offered a $2,000 reward for information about Evans.

At the harbor, Glenview couple awoke on their boat when they heard sirens. It was the second body found in the harbor in as many weeks, they said.
