Britain, this afternoon:

Couple held after children, 4 and 5, 'stabbed to death' as six-month-old girl fights for her life in hospital

Police have arrested a couple after a five-year-old boy and four-year-old girl died from suspected stab wounds.
A six-month-old baby girl was also fighting for her life in hospital after officers found the three children with serious injuries at their home in south London last night.
They were all taken to hospital but the two older children died within five minutes of each other just before midnight.
The couple, believed to be their parents and of Sri Lankan origin, are in custody and murder squad detectives and the child abuse unit are investigating.

The mother was escorted by police from the property shortly after one of the children was placed in an ambulance where paramedics tried to revive him/her. :(
'She was handcuffed.

The Asian man and woman just stood there on opposite sides of the road with police. They didn't say a word to each other.'

no official word yet on what the motive for this dreadful crime could have been. :(

she'd had the baby fighting for life right now in the last few months.

Oh how horrible. Those poor babies. This monster was obviously very very ill to be able to carry out such a disgusting act on her own babies. I have never suffered depression or anything like that ( I get the occasional blues but everybody does ) but can someone who has really suffered from severe depression please explain to me..does your mind really ''go there''. I just can't understand...:mad:
 
first i do not blame the husband for the assault on the wife at all. had i come home to find my husband had killed my children i think in that moment i would be uncontrollable.

one relative said the mother was depressed. that may be true but it could also be a act of anger. she fought with her husband then attacked the children. my father said many times he would kill us before he let my mother have us during the divorce. after he had custody he sent us to her anyway because he found us to be too much trouble. this mother would not be the first parent to kill their children to punish their spouse. until a doctor comes forward with a medical finding of depression i will not trust the relatives diagnosis.

I can speak from the p.o.v. of someone who has dealt with severe depression all my life, but NOT -- obviously -- about postpartum depression. Speaking for myself, no -- the mind doesn't "go there." Your thoughts can become morbid, but they're most often self-destructive thoughts. That said, if you're depressed enough, you can lose your grip on all your emotions. I become more easily irritated, saddened, angered, you name it. But cold-blooded homicide of your own children or anyone else? Hell no.

I make the distinction between clinical depression and postpartum depression because I think they can be very different from one another. Postpartum depression only afflicts women, obviously, and it can devolve into psychosis, and I'm not so sure that classic clinical depression always deteriorates into psychosis. I say that, but I consider suicidal ideation to be a mild form of psychosis, because it is delusional to justify suicide in your mind, but many depressives and manic depressives do just that; decide to take themselves out because they figure everyone will be better off that way. I probably wouldn't have that perspective if my own brother hadn't committed suicide 8 years ago (yes, depression and bipolar disorder run in the family -- they're genetic, in general). It was delusional of him to think that was his only solution or that he did the right thing for everyone -- the emotional scars left behind by a suicide in a family are too numerous to mention.

If this person had postpartum psychosis, she may not go anywhere but to the hospital, in the end.

At first read I thought maybe it was another case of "discarding" the females, but one of the children was male. These people need to fry:furious:

I can only speak for myself regarding depression. I suffered from severe depression after the death of my son, and then again after the death of my younger sister. I was so overwhelmed with grief, that I had self-destructive thoughts, but never thoughts of harming my other children or anyone else for that matter.

I don't think anyone can understand PPD unless they've had it. I was so worried that I would have it after the birth of my children that I told my husband to take me to the doctor immediately if I started acting funny in any way. I was so worried after hearing stories like this that it would be something out of my control.

For me, as a mother, it HAS to be something beyond our understanding. Being a mother, I don't see how you could do this to your own children WITHOUT being mentally sick.

Poor babies.... :( It just makes me so sad to hear stories like this and so thankful that I've never dealt with PPD.

Yes, indeed, considering the horrendous outcome.

i wonder, though, if had he been more supportive to her before she turned murderous, if the murders would have happened?
 
Depression and other mental illnesses are not given the attention they need. This could have been prevented if she had seeked proper medical attention.

I don't blame him for slapping the crap out of her though. I don't believe in violence, but I can certainly understand his reaction.:mad:
