Miss Savannah indicted for murder

Sharron Nicole Redmond accused of fatally shooting boyfriend Kevin Shorter.

Sharron Nicole Redmond gained local distinction when she was crowned Miss Savannah in August 2003, but she gained nationwide notoriety for the shooting that occurred four months later.

A Chatham County grand jury indicted Redmond, 23, on five felony charges Wednesday, alleging she shot and killed her boyfriend, Kevin Shorter, after discovering he was dating and engaged to another woman.

The indictment charges the city's reigning beauty queen with murder, using a firearm during the commission of a felony, and an aggravated assault during the Dec. 16 confrontation at Shorter's fiancee's house in the Runaway Point subdivision.

If convicted of murder, Redmond faces life in prison.

The former Miss Savannah, Nikki Redmond, will stand trial for murder. She entered a not guilty plea this morning to five felony charges for the shooting death of her boyfriend Kevin Shorter last December. WTOC spoke with Redmond's attorney, Michael Schiavone, this afternoon. He says his client has a strong case and feels there was no need to plea bargain.


This case is scheduled to go to trial in December here in Savannah. Im thinking about attending it. Im slightly aquainted with the Defense Atty.

The jury was seated today and I am going to attend this trial this week. Any other Savannah locals planning on attending??
 
Sharron Nicole Redmond only held her title of Miss Savannah for four months before being charged with killing her boyfriend.

In March, though, a jury acquitted Redmond of killing Kevin Shorter, claiming self-defense. Shorter’s family is now suing Redmond for wrongful death. Redmond has fired back with a lawsuit of her own.
