CARROLLTON, Ga. (AP) - An 8-year-old girl disappeared while riding her bike to visit a friend and was found dead hours later.

Amy Michelle Yates left her home around 6 p.m. Monday to visit a friend who lived nearby in her trailer park, said Carroll County Chief Deputy Brad Robinson. Her body was found at around 10:15 p.m. in tall grass about 100 feet from the park.

The death was being investigated as a homicide.

Her mother started searching for her when she learned that her daughter had not made it to the friend's house. The girl's bike was found abandoned inside the trailer park.

Authorities issued a Levi's Call, a statewide child abduction warning usually known as an Amber Alert in other states.

Robinson said there were no suspects but investigators were interviewing residents of the small trailer park, which was made up of about 40 homes. The parents have been ruled out as suspects, Robinson said. Levi's Calls are named for Levi Frady, an 11-year-old boy who was found shot to death in 1997 after disappearing when he left a friend's home. The case has not been solved.

An 8-year-old Carroll County girl was found dead overnight, several hours after she disappeared from the mobile home park where her family lived.

Carroll County Coroner Samuel Eady said Tuesday that the cause of the girl's death had not been determined. An autopsy was being conducted at the state crime lab.

Amy Michelle Yates was riding her bicycle to a friend's house about 6 p.m. Monday when she went missing, authorities said.

Her parents found her bicycle by the side of the road not far from their home in the Twin Oaks Mobile Home Park on Smyrna Church Road, northwest of Carrollton.

They alerted authorities at about 7:45 p.m. Monday, and a Levi's Call alert was issued.

The alert was canceled about 10:30 p.m. when the girl's body was found in a wooded and grassy area about 100 feet outside the trailer park, said Chief Deputy Brad Robinson of the Carroll County Sheriff's Department.

Robinson said the girl's death is being treated as a homicide, and investigators are looking at several possible suspects.

I hope they don't lock up this boy and throw away the key. He obviously is in need of some serious mental intervention.

There are people who feel Burke Ramsey could have killed his little sister... stories like this make you think twice :(
