The following is the text of an article from the October 5th, 1998 Chillicothe (MO) Constitution Tribune :

Squirrel hunters find human remains in southeast Missouri
DONIPHAN, Mo. (AP) — Police in southeast Missouri are trying to
identify human remains found by squirrel hunters, but they know the
victim was neither of two missing girls.
The remains were found Saturday morning in a wooded area of southern
Ripley County. Sheriff Mike Cochran and Coroner Howard Jackson
agreed the victim was probably murdered. Dental records showed the
victim was not Gina Dawn Brooks, the 13-year-old girl who disappeared
from Fredericktown in 1989,<LE> said Monday. Dental records also
showed the victim was not Felecia Elliott, a Dalton, AR, girl who has
been missing since three members of her family were killed in July.
Authorities now believe the victim was a woman, probably in her 30s.
"Officially we are not aware of having anyone unaccounted for in
this part of the world," <LE> said.

The remains of the two girls mentioned in the article have since been recovered and arrests made. However, after searching for hours (including Doe Network) I can't find anything about these remains. Donaphin is in southeast MO, near the Arkansas border and also close to Tennessee. The area appears to be very rural.

If anyone knows or can find anything about this, please let me know. There are some cases from the area (MO, AR, and TN) that could possibly be a match.

Wow - I don't even see this UID on the Missouri UID sites. A little more info would be helpful....

You're tellin' me. :)

My hope is that she was identified and I just haven't found the article yet.
My fear is that she went on a shelf somewhere and was forgotten.

Oh dear! There aren't that many UID's in MO. I KNOW it's possible for people to slip through the cracks, but jeez - hard to believe, with as few as they have, they would drop the ball!

Other than continuing to dig through reports and archives, the only thing I can think to do is contact the Ripley County coroner and see if I get a response.

I also just realized that the ten-year anniversary of this report is in two or three weeks.
This gets spooky sometimes.

Just keep your eyes open, if you happen to see anything in your internet travels let me know. Maybe contact any MO missing/UID sites you know and see if they know something. I'll send something off to the sherriff's office/coroner tomorrow.
Thanks :)
