HYANNIS - Police are hunting for the cold-blooded killer who set fire to the body of a troubled but popular Cape Cod teen and left him burning in a 10-foot pit on the edge of a patch of woods.

Authorities today identified the victim as Jordan Mendes, 16, a Barnstable High School sophomore who had brushes with the law but was well liked by his friends. An autopsy is being conducted today........

....A family friend said yesterday neither Jordan Mendes nor his younger brother Mykel returned home from school Tuesday

....Jordan Mendes is the son of Manuel Mendes, now serving a 35-year sentence in federal prison for running a cocaine ring while he was serving an eight- to 10-year sentence in Plymouth County Correctional Facility for a previous drug conviction. At the time, police described Manuel Mendes as the mastermind behind the cocaine ring, directing half a dozen friends and relatives who picked up drugs in New York and sold them on the Cape

Boy, 13, accused of killing and burning brother, 16

HYANNIS -- An eighth-grader has been accused of killing his 16-year-old brother and burning his body in an armed robbery of $10,000 in alleged drug money, according to a defense attorney for the boy.

The 13-year-old is one of three suspects accused of killing Jordan Mendes, whose burned body was discovered shot and stabbed in woods here on Tuesday, according to his defense attorney, Robert L. Jubinville Jr.

Sweet Savior Jesus. I hope his father is proud.

Good Lord. I was wondering where the little brother was. Guess he was hiding out. I don't even know what to say.

13 years old?? I wonder if he took part in his brother's murder thinking he could be locked up with his dad..

Sounds like the murder of the older brother has to do with drug money. It's hard to even think of a 13 yr old being capable of murdering his older brother much less over drug money. Were these boys following in their father's foot steps? I wonder what their mother is like.

Police: Pals betrayed Mendes in final hour

HYANNIS — Jordan Mendes offered a warm smile as he walked into Barnstable High School early Monday morning, happily unaware that he would never be back.

But by 3 p.m. that day — minutes after the school's closing bell — Mendes, 16, would be dead, shot and stabbed multiple times, according to police reports.......
After the killing, the three suspects made off with $10,000 in cash that Mendes had with him, likely from dealing drugs, O'Keefe said.

The following morning, Vacher, one of the young boys, and "an aunt," used the money to buy a silver BMW at a car dealership in the greater Hyannis area, O'Keefe said. He did not identify the woman.

So sad. Kids were doomed at birth.

I sure hope that it wasn't the aunt of the 16 yr old that was murdered along with the brother. This whole thing is just sickening. Thirteen yr old boys killing one of their brothers for drug money. What in the world happened to these brothers that money meant more then the life of one of them. What a messed up world we live in. I still would like to know what kind of a person the mother of these boys is.

So far the father is in prison...the younger boy heading there and the older boy dead. All because of drugs :furious: I wonder if there are any other kids in the family. If so, they should be removed if they are younger then the 13 yr old.

Family searches for answers in murder of Cape Cod teen

http://www.necn.com/Boston/New-England/2008/12/18/Family-searches-for-answers-in/1229640582.html

Going by the comment section of articles it sounds like Jordan lived with his
grandparents. Not sure if mother lived there also.

The photo of the 20 year old crying in court was bewildering. He plotted to shot, stab, roll up in a carpet, dump in a pit, pour gasoline on, and light on fire his friend.....without shedding a tear. Drugs or dim-witted. Do wonder how much influence this 'aunt' had on him. Not to say he isn't responsible for his action but hope she is held accountable if she was a manipulative party.

Im curious about this 'Aunt' too.
It wouldnt be hard for an adult to manipulate two 13 year old boys.

I would like to know more about the "aunt" involved.

13-year-old boy accused in killing of brother

...At a news conference yesterday, O'Keefe announced that two 13-year-olds and a 20-year-old, Robert B. Vacher, had been charged. The suspects are accused of shooting Mendes in the torso and cutting his throat Monday about 2:30 p.m. as they stole the money, he said. A day later, Vacher and the aunt of one of the juveniles bought a silver BMW, according to a police report. The name of the other 13-year-old could not be confirmed.

Still not saying much about this 'aunt' but am thinking she is probably Vacher's girlfriend.....or he was led to think that.

Was trying to figure out if this "The name of the other 13-year-old could not be confirmed." was referring back to the juvenile in 'aunt of one of the juveniles'. It seems to be but the word 'other' seems to imply the reporter was talking about both juveniles.

LIKE most boys, 13-year-old Mykel Mendes looked up to his big brother, Jordan. The two rode bikes together, did yard work together and hung out together. But when it came to the family business - a major drug ring - Mykel did not want to share, police say.

Mykel, a 7th grader, is now accused of masterminding the slaying of his 16-year-old half-brother so he could take over the drug operation - one police say they inherited from their father, who is in prison for running one of the biggest cocaine rings on Cape Cod.

Jordan was found shot, stabbed 27 times and dumped into a pit, where his body was torched. Another 13-year-old friend and a 20-year-old cousin also are charged with murder.

Over two days in December, police say Mykel, his 20-year-old cousin, Robert Vacher, and 13-year-old Kevin Ribeiro stole $10,000 in cash from Jordan, killed him, poured gasoline on his body and set him on fire.

The three walked into a car dealership, pulled the $10,000 out of their pockets and bought a used silver BMW, O'Keefe said.

Children live what they learn. I would wager that the Father of this story trained his sons to be this way. Good lord.

from the same article:

"I can remember him staring down some of the SWAT team members, saying we'd better not mess up his room," Balcom said. "He was standing right up to us."

SCARY !!!!!!!!!!!!

Longmont police on Friday arrested a man convicted in connection with the murder of his older brother with attempting to buy a shotgun at a Longmont sporting goods store...

The affidavit said that in 2008, Mendes — along with his then 20-year-old cousin Robert Vacher and a 13-year-old boy— robbed 16-year-old Jordan Mendes for $10,000. When Jordan Mendes' burned body was found in a pit, investigators discovered he had been stabbed 27 times and shot...

A jury later convicted Vacher of first-degree murder, and he is currently serving life without parole. The 13-year-old pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and was incarcerated until he turned 18. The arrest-warrant affidavit said Mendes pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact and was released from the Massachusetts Department of Youth Corrections in 2013.
