Church will provide haven for those grieving death of Caylee Anthony
Memorial service for Caylee: 10 a.m. today

"As a church, we want to provide hope, healing and the opportunity to experience God's love," Uth said in a written statement. "We believe that hosting the service will give us the opportunity to minister to a family in need and to a community that is hurting because of the loss of this precious child."

Still, no single service is likely to heal all the wounds that opened during the months investigators searched for Caylee's killer before charging her 22-year-old mother, Casey Anthony, with the crime, said Orange County sheriff's Capt. Miguel Pagan, head of chaplain services.
"It's another chapter that they're trying to close," said Pagan, who also is an ordained Catholic deacon. "But there's still another chapter because there will be a trial."

The public service was broadcast live WFTV and WFTV.com from the First Baptist Church of Orlando. Images of Caylee flashed on a giant screen in front of the church sanctuary as a pianist played, "You Are My Sunshine" and "If You're Happy and You Know It."
Also Tuesday morning, around 9:30am, Casey's attorney, Jose Baez arrived at the jail to meet with her and was allowed to take his laptop into the meeting with her. Therefore, she may be able to watch the memorial service online, as well.
Eyewitness News also learned that Padilla and the Anthony's two private investigators, who videotaped the area where Caylee's remains were found before the actual discovery, will be questioned under oath next month in the civil case against Casey.

Hundreds Mourn Caylee At Memorial Service
Grandparents, Uncle Speak At Service

Hundreds of friends, family members and strangers gathered at a memorial service for slain toddler Caylee Anthony at the First Baptist Church of Orlando on Tuesday morning.
At 9:39 a.m. however, Casey Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, visited his client in the female detention center in an attorney interview room. Although the room did not have a TV, Baez did have a laptop with him and it is possible and allowed that he and Casey Anthony could have been watching the service via air card.
Family members, including Caylee's grandmother, Cindy Anthony, spoke during the service, which opened with a piano medley of Caylee's favorite songs.
A teary Cindy Anthony sang along with Pastor Herkie Walls to "O How He Loves You and Me." She said she would not have been able to endure the pain and suffering she has over the past seven months if it weren't for her faith. She also addressed Casey Anthony directly, saying she hoped she could hear her and telling her she loves her and wished she could take away the pain she is feeling.

Caylee Anthony service: Attorney says it was her day, but grandparents' comments direct focus to Casey

The stations also asked whether Casey Anthony watched the service in jail via attorney Jose Baez's laptop computer. Baez wouldn't say. "My client does not want to have me commenting on any private matters," he said.
WKMG reported that Baez said there was no rift between Casey Anthony and her parents about the memorial.

"Everybody here wanted to make sure this was Caylee's day," said Brad Conway, attorney for George and Cindy Anthony. "And it was."

Caylee Anthony memorial: Lee, George, Cindy remember toddler -- and incarcerated Casey

Cindy Anthony addressed comments to Casey, who is jailed: "I love you and I wish I could comfort you."
Cindy said, "Stay strong my child" and added that Caylee watches over them all.

As for Caylee, George Anthony remembered the child's love of green beans and Disney DVDs. He said he was lucky "to live in a house with three determined women," evidently meaning wife Cindy, Casey and Caylee. George, who had recently attempted suicide, received a standing ovation after his comments.
Cindy Anthony remembered Caylee as a special child who loved animals, tea parties and dress-up. Cindy asked for an end to negativity and speculation. She, too, received a standing ovation.
Lee Anthony, son of George and Cindy, said the family is united but incomplete. "I'm broken," Lee said. And he addressed comments to Caylee -- called "CMA" -- "I miss you."

Caylee Anthony memorial draws more than 1,000, WKMG reports

WKMG started its coverage at 9, an hour before the service began. Investigative reporter Tony Pipitone described the service as a family affair -- one for the Anthonys and also for the extended family that "has come out of nowhere" since the story broke in July.
Pipitone said people want to become part of the Caylee mourning for several reasons: Some are projecting their grief on the family. Others are groupies swept up in the tabloid TV coverage. And there is toddler Caylee herself. "That face has captured the hearts of many people," Pipitone said.

"There has been [no] request from inmate Casey Anthony to have TV access to view this morning's memorial," the release shows. "Policy would permit us to accommodate a request by a Protective Custody (PC) Level-1 inmate to view television."
Moore said the television will not be on in the housing area where Anthony is located.

TV stations provided early morning previews of today's Caylee Anthony memorial.

WKMG-Channel 6's Tiffany Tift held up a program showing that family members might speak. Tift said it wasn't clear if grandparents George or Cindy Anthony would talk. A medley of toddler Caylee's favorite songs will be played at the start.
WFTV-Channel 9's Mark Boyle also showed the program, said it contained several songs and added that Anthony family members would be able to speak if they chose to. WFTV interviewed a woman who said she hoped there would be no trouble at the service.
WESH-Channel 2 gave an aerial view of First Baptist Church of Orlando, where the memorial will be held, and noted that the parking lot was starting to fill. The memorial service begins at 10 a.m.

Man and girlfriend drive from Tennessee for Caylee memorial

Eric Rose and his girlfriend, who drove down from Knoxville, Tenn., told Orlando Sentinel reporter Bianca Prieto they are here "to support George and Cindy Anthony."
"Well, when you watch it every day on TV, you feel like you're part of it," he said.
In response to the possible protest from the Topeka church, Rose said he doesn't understand why people would want to protest at a child's funeral.
"We are here for a real reason," Rose said. He also said he left his 2-year-old son Landon at home because he fears the service could turn into a circus.

Slain Toddler's Mom Says She Opposes Public Service

Casey Anthony's parents, George and Cindy, who arranged the public service, urged mourners to support their daughter.
"It breaks my heart today that Casey isn't here today to honor her child who she loved so much," Cindy Anthony said during the eulogy. "Casey, I hope you're listening to this. I wish I could comfort you. I wish I could take away your pain and wipe away your tears."

George Anthony said his daughter deserved love and letters of support while she was in jail.
"I miss my daughter, Casey," George Anthony said. "Do not form judgments because I tell you, you do not want to be in any of our shoes."
Security was tight, given that the Anthony family had faced protesters at their house before the daughter was arrested. A dozen deputies were stationed at the church and mourners had to pass through a metal detector to get into the sanctuary. No protesters showed up.

Goodbye, Caylee Marie -- Hundreds Mourn At Public Memorial
Tuesday, February 10, 2009 3:02:45 PM

<snipped>
The event was filled with emotional words, both from religious leaders and from members of Caylee's own family.
The Anthonys, though tearful, remained calm, holding hands throughout the ceremony, and occationally leaning on each other. They also smiled at times when the pastor spoke.

Duckett At Memorial
Joshua Duckett, whose son Trenton Duckett, has been missing since August 2006, said he felt a personal connection with the case of Caylee Anthony. "Even though nobody really knew Caylee, you still have a connection to her after all the stuff that's been on the news," Joshua Duckett told News 13. "Being connected to the families, we share a lot of the same things, and a lot of the same thoughts."
Padilla Holds Separate Memorial At Remains Site
Padilla's memorial only lasted lasted about 20 minutes. The number of people at the site was small, but emotions were still strong. Many people said they were too emotionally attached to this story to let Caylee go so soon. Padilla, himself, said he is not going away. Padilla also said he, in no way, was profiting on anything he has done in his involvement in the Caylee Anthony case.
No Support From Casey
While Caylee's grandparents are expected to attend the memorial, her mother, Casey Anthony chose not to watch the service from jail, saying she does not support the public service. Instead, Casey spent the vigil meeting with her attorney, Jose Baez, who showed up shortly after the ceremony began.

The Anthony family, minus jailed mother Casey Anthony, took the pulpit after a series of faith-based messages and songs. Lee Anthony, the brother of Casey Anthony, spoke to mourners and asked them to "fill their hearts with compassion and truth."
Lee Anthony began to cry and then kissed the band around his wrist that shows Caylee's name.
"CMA [Caylee Marie Anthony] I miss you. CMA I am so proud of you. I hope you're proud of me, too," Lee Anthony said. "I will never forget."

George Anthony followed by saying, "I am proud to be the grandfather of Caylee Marie."
He spoke for 10 minutes about his granddaughter and received a standing ovation when he was finished.

Next came Cindy.
"I remember the day Casey came to me to tell me the news I was going to be a grandmother. I knew that our lives were going to be blessed."
"I knew she would be a very special child. Caylee was a perfect baby."

Before the memorial, about 50 to 60 people gathered at a makeshift memorial to Caylee off Suburban Drive, a short walk from the Anthony home.
Sentinel photographer Red Huber, who was given exclusive permission from the Anthony family to be the still photographer of record for the memorial, is already filing photos from the church.
Some visitors put up a wooden heart-shaped memorial that reads "Caylee rest in peace."
Five members of the local chapter of the Guardian Angels are at the service.

With tears, prayers, and toys in hand, more than 70 people gathered near a small patch woods in southeast Orange County where the body of Caylee Marie Anthony was found after months of holding the attention of the nation.
"I haven't invited a single [media] camera here," Padilla said. "Caylee means more to me than she does to the media. To the media, she's just good television. I wish that I met her, I didn't, but I feel like I know her."

Richard Grund spoke of his family's love for the child and the pain they feel at her loss.
"The message here is for all of you," he said. "If you have children, love them today, because as we found out from this case, you may not have them tomorrow."

Say goodbye to Caylee -- but don't forget the other missing children
posted by Kim Hays on Feb 10, 2009 6:07:08 AM

<snipped>
We know now that Caylee Anthony is dead. Our community will come together today to say goodbye, receive some closure and hopefully move on from this long nightmare.
But where is Kasey Bias?
The 8-year-old Longwood girl was last seen January 5 with a adult male relative and could still be in the Orlando area. Who is looking for her?
Or 7-year-old Jacqueline Hernandez of Clermont, who was abducted by her father and may be in Mexico.
Who is watching out for runaways D'Isha Hayes, 14, of Deltona, and Ricardo King, 17, of Orlando?
We've done all we can to help Caylee. But what about other children who find themselves in unsafe homes or with dangerous relatives? Or even custodial abductions, where a child is denied his or her legal right to be with her parent?
When we remember Caylee today, let's also remember the other children out there in harm's way.

"Now she's an angel. What can you say? It is sad, sad," Heidi Pnoyer told Eyewitness News.
It was difficult for Heidi to express how she feels about little Caylee being laid to rest. Nearly 100 mourners started pulling onto Suburban Drive around 9:00am Tuesday. They came with their children, teddy bears and a florist delivered a basket of white flowers.
A heart-shaped sign and a large white poster board was put up so people could leave a message for Caylee at the site where her remains for found. All of the people at the remains scene Tuesday have followed the case from the beginning and Tuesday felt like they're getting closure.

"I pray for the mom, too. I know Caylee's in heaven, but the mom's got to live the rest of her life with this in her heart," mourner Kelly Rallison said.
Leonard Padilla, Jesse Grund's father and a few others were there, because they were banned from attending the memorial at the church. They didn't harp on that when they spoke to the crowd.

Caylee Anthony's memorial service: What I saw
Sarah Lundy | Sentinel Staff Writer
2:35 PM EST, February 10, 2009

<snipped>
Finally, Caylee Marie had her day.
I didn't see protesters spewing hate about her mother. No news conference dominated the event. No bounty hunters stealing the spotlight. And those I spoke to talked about how beautiful the service was instead of sharing their theories on what happened to the 2-year-old whose remains were found in December.

As I waited, pictures of Caylee in happier times flashed on a large screen. Caylee wearing a Princess Leia costume. Caylee playing with a Winnie the Pooh brush. Caylee snoozing on her grandmother's bed.
All I could think about was how could someone hurt such a cute little girl?
The woman with the tissues began to cry -- and didn't stop until it was over two hours later.
I wondered if she was crying for Caylee -- a girl she probably got to know through television and newspaper stories -- or for some other reason. I bet most of the people there had never met Caylee and didn't know the Anthonys personally.

Crowds pack church for Caylee memorial

ORLANDO, FLorida (CNN) -- Relatives of slain toddler Caylee Anthony spoke at her public memorial service Tuesday, recalling a little girl who was full of life and love and expressing their grief at her death.

Lee, Cindy and George Anthony occupy a front row pew at a memorial for slain toddler Caylee.

"Sure, Caylee might be in God's heaven right now, but her presence is still at home with me every day," said George Anthony, the girl's grandfather.
"I can close my eyes and I can see her coming from her bedroom with her silly little glasses on, her beads, whatever it might be, to make me laugh.
"She was a comedian to me," he said.

An estimated 1,100 mourners -- many of whom have never met Caylee -- gathered at the First Baptist Church of Orlando to honor her.
Absent, however, was the girl's mother, Casey Anthony, 22, who faces first-degree murder charges in the toddler's death. Jail officials said Casey Anthony was meeting with her attorney while the service was taking place and did not ask to watch it on television.

Defense attorney visits Casey Anthony during memorial service

Casey met with her attorney.
Jose Baez arrived at the Orange County Jail just after 9:30am Tuesday.

Baez brought his lap top computer into the room where he and Casey met. Outside the jail he was asked if Casey used it to watch coverage of the service.

"I'm not going to comment on what Casey is going through, what she does, what she doesn't do," he said.
