At least nine people are dead from gunshot wounds in Geneva County. Some of the dead are in Samson, the others near or in Geneva. The shooter was then shot himself to death at Reliable Products in Geneva. A source tells WDHN the shooter is Steven McLendon but that could not immediately be confirmed. (more at link)

The shooting spree began in Samson and included at least one victim at a gas station.

Geneva County Coroner Max Motley said he was called to the Big Little Store on West Main Street in Samson, where he found the body of a woman between the gas pump and the front door. She was found face up with at least one fatal gunshot wound. Other victims are at a home off of Highway 52.

Friends and neighbors living on Wise Street in Samson say they won’t sleep tonight after witnessing a shooting spree by a man who one person said was a “cool guy.”
Alina Knowles, who was moving into a house with her husband close to where seven people were gunned down, described the bloody scene. (more at link)

State fire marshals are investigating the scene of a burned house in Coffee County where one body was found. The scene is believed to be involved in this series of incidents. There are believed to be additional victims shot and wounded during these episodes.
This is a very complicated investigation that is unfolding, with multiple crime scenes and a number of agencies working together.
As the investigation continues, additional information will be made available.
 
How sad. I heard about this on the news and raced here. Do we have a name of a suspect yet??? So much sadness in this world.... Thank God for the people here at WS's who keep things real.

I haven't seen a name reported yet, but I have seen that he apparently worked at Reliable Metal, which is in Geneva. They make metal products for heating and AC systems.
 
....why? This is so sad, I just have to wonder why, not that there is a valid excuse-but I want to hear the b.s. that "set him off" so i can be mad at him instead of just sad.
 
This story continues to get worse. It appears the suspect's mother may have been the first victim. Now confirmed her body was found in her burned home in Kinston, AL. Suspect's grandparents, aunt and uncle are also among victims now being reported. Still no name of suspect that I can find.

"He started in his mother's house," Preachers said. "Then he went to Samson and he killed his granny and granddaddy and aunt and uncle."

"We don't know what triggered it," Preachers added.

The gunman also shot at a state trooper's car, striking the vehicle seven times and wounding the trooper with broken glass.

He then killed someone at a Samson supply store, and another person at a service station.

The guman killed 10 people over a total of 6 crime scenes, then turned the gun on himself.

He then turned the gun on himself. Authorities say the shooting could be the result of a job loss.
Police say more victims could be named.

I TOTALLY agree. I will NEVER understand why people choose to do these mass shootings. Never, ever.

Sooo sad. My thoughts, prayers, and most heartfelt support really go out to the victims families. I can't even imagine :(
