(His photo is less blurry on Doe's site.)

To be honest I don't see much of a resemblance, not that I have much experience matching faces. It does sound quite possible that he is still alive, however, going by the IRS investigation and the idea he might have fled to avoid prosecution.

He seems to have a longer chin and forehead looks much wider. imo not Ben.

Daniel Joseph Hilkey:
Pro: brown hair, blue eyes. Ears are lined up above the eyebrow.
Con: Too short, too thin, face seems too long, eyes are not shaped like BK's.

He appears to have had lots of money hidden. The area he lived in is very isolated.
It is surrounded by many thousands of acres of forested mountains.

Not a match.

Unsolved: Daniel Joseph Hilkey (1985)

He disappeared one day from the family farm, as he was under investigation by the IRS for non-payment of taxes. A closer look by investigators found some documents that showed Hilkey may have been trying to create a false identity.

With no closure in sight – the family hired a private detective in the hopes of finding any remains, so that the estate could be settled.

Nothing was found – but the private detective concluded that foul play was the reason behind Hilkey’s disappearance, with the suspect being Hilkey’s brother – Charles Hilkey.
