Search for missing girl in Tracy

The Tracy Police Department has set up a mobile command post on West Clover Road as a helicopter searches the area for an 8-year-old girl who has been missing since Friday afternoon.

Sandra Cantu was last seen at 4 p.m. Friday, and the official search began at 8:15 p.m., police said. She was supposed to be at a friend's house in the Orchard Estates mobile home park, where she lives, but she wasn't found there.

Police have searched all night. The FBI, California Highway Patrol, San Joaquin Sheriff's Office, Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office, Tracy Volunteers in Police Services, Tracy Community Emergency Response Team, Tracy Fire Department and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children are helping in the investigation.

I just watched the video from that news station. Seen on camera leaving her home at the Orchard Estates mobile home park. Weird. :( Part of her mom's plea is in the video also. Very very sad. I hope they find her soon.

in this article the little girl who was playing with Sandra (was last person to see her) states Sandra told her she wanted to run away. The mother of this little girl didn't seem to put much stock in it tho... Also...Sandra was not seen leaving the t~park. There are security cameras at the entrance/exit... that means to me she is either still in that trailer park or was in any of the autos seen on camera between 4pmish and now

Search Effort Grows For Missing Tracy Girl

Volunteers from seven counties were helping Sunday in the search for an 8-year-old Tracy girl who had been missing since Friday afternoon, authorities said.

While a reward was offered for information leading to Sandra Cantu's safe return, no Amber Alert was issued because police said they had no immediate evidence that Sandra Cantu was abducted.

On Sunday, police said there were now professionally trained searchers looking for the girl. Some 40 members of law enforcement have joined 100 volunteers, according to Sheneman.

While police said they were following several leads in the case, they also asked the public for more tips.

"If you have seen someone in your neighborhood that you see on a daily basis and all of sudden they're not around or if someone's changed their appearance a great deal and that seems unusual to you, or someone's out working on their car every day and you don't see them for a couple of days, give us a call," Sheneman said. "Let us know about that."

[snip]

Detectives said the girl had never run away before, and had always let her mother know where she was going and when she would be coming home. Police said the girl's father was enroute to Tracy from Southern California.

The mother was brought in for a few hours for questioning Sunday as she had been too distraught earlier. The father has driven up from SoCal and was interviewed. When LE was asked if he was a person of interest they said

family says cameras had been installed in the last two weeks for security

The family told abc that the security cameras had been installed within the last two weeks for security purposes. Sandra's grandpa Joe states

The fbi is calling the security camera footage basically a Godsend and say

LE is also focusing on RSOs and hotel logs:

the security cameras were installed according to this....

~snip~Sandra's grandfather recently installed surveillance cameras on his mobile home after the tires on his truck were slashed, Chavez said - a rare crime for the area that the family has speculated might be retaliation for him trapping cats that trespass on his property and taking them to the pound.
according to this article Sandra shares the home with her mother, grandparents and three older sibblings.

Investigators also have been inside every home in the park, Sheneman said.
He refused to discuss any clues authorities are following, however, and said they have not ruled out any theories - including that Sandra ran away.

searchers have also focused here

swimming pool man has BEEN interviewed and will be reinterviewed
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbH2vz8mICs

This video is an interview with LE and very informative.

1) they have received "credible tips" that LE believes may lead them to find Sandra
2) they don't believe any family involved but they do not use in the word "clear" in general
3) the only info they have gathered thus far from the video was the last time Sandra was seen.
4) swimming pool incident happened two years ago. The man has been interviewed and will be reinterviewed about "issues".... so far no indication he is involved

PD: Tracy Girl's Disappearance Not Abduction

Search Continues After Child Disappeared Friday

POSTED: 4:01 am PDT March 30, 2009

TRACY, Calif. -- Police said Monday that an 8-year-old Tracy girl's disappearance is being considered a missing persons case and not an abduction.
Sandra Cantu was last seen at 4 p.m. Friday outside of Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park.
Earlier, family members said was probably abducted.

Meanwhile, the Carole Sund/Carrington Foundation offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the return of 8-year-old Sandra Cantu.
"We are still very hopeful that she will be returned safely to us," said family representative Lisa Encarnacion, adding early Monday that it is "exhausting" for relatives to wait through the ordeal.
Volunteers on Monday continued their search in the community, while authorities were scouring surveillance video that recorded the girl playing in the mobile home community, which is located a short distance from the intersection of North Tracy Boulevard and Interstate 205.
Encarnacion said relatives insist the girl was taken from the mobile home park and did not run away.

Unbelievable semantics...I didn't know LE had taken to wearing rose colored glasses. We all hope to god that this is true, however, lack of evidence of one thing, does not make the other true.

(snip)
"We have no evidence to indicate she's been harmed and is not alive,'' Sheneman said. "So it is our belief that she's alive and unharmed.''

ETA: alive maybe, unharmed doubtful. Yeah right, people that hold children do so for merely the conversation.....

IMO, something is off with this guy if LE questioned him 3 times already.

http://tracypress.com/content/view/17666/2268/

(snip)
Police have questioned a martial arts instructor three times about his alleged sexual interaction two years ago with an 8-year-old Tracy girl missing since Friday.

Police and the family have confirmed that the man — whose name and age police, family and neighbors withheld — had reportedly kissed Sandra Cantu on the lips while she was swimming in the mobile home park’s pool two years ago. Sandra's 15-year-old brother Thomas Fortin suggested he might be in his 40s or 50s.

The man lives behind the home of Sandra, who was last seen around 4 p.m. Friday before the family reported her missing. More than 73 hours have passed since then.

No one answered the door today at the man’s trailer, and neighbors declined to disclose his name. He is not a registered sex offender, according to the California Department of Justice. In fact, the department lists that no registered sex offenders live in the mobile home park. Police already interviewed all the area’s registrants.

search warrants; sandra entered home; mother was in home

ETA: when Greta asked if the camera showed anyone else LE said no
