Homeless man returns family heirloom

What a great story especially in light of so much sad and heartbreaking news around us. So wonderful the homeless man seemed to wait for "right person" to come along so he could ask him to take the bowl. Brings tears to my eyes. I dabble in genealogy when I have time so I truly appreciate that they were able to track the family members down.

Thanks for such a heartwarming story, tatertot! -Love your name btw :)

What a wonderful story to start off a new week? Kindness....inspiring....happy ending.

The homeless are people too. I wish more people would remember that. I see homeless people all the time in NYC and the way they are treated is appalling. They are immediately shunned, laughed at, told to go away, treated like cockroaches, I have homeless people assaulted for no reason at all. I have spoken to many of them and for the most part they are people who never thought they would be where they are and due to a string of circumstances they lost everything and did not have the family or resources to get back on their feet. Sadly, many of them are mentally disabled and the parents or care-takers have passed away so they were evicted from the apt and put on the streets to fend for themselves.
I always wonder about them and have thought many time about taking my camera, and a friend to put together a photo essay - go out onto the streets to talk to them and find out their stories. Where did they come from, who were their parents, what happened to them, how did they get in these dire straights because god knows they don't want to be there. People say things like 'get a job' well it is not that simple. How are you giong to get a job when all you have to wear are rags and all the money you have managed to pan handle goes to either food or paying for a bed in a shelter so you can have a safe place to bath and sleep? I witnessed a homeless man trying to get an application for work and he was escorted out by security for asking for a job application.
