Meanwhile, the Ocoee Police Department was back out searching for the missing Orange County woman on Wednesday night.

The search focused on a field on Franklin Street -- not far from a cell phone tower that received a ping from Ocasio's phone the morning after she disappeared.

Judge: April trial possible for man last seen with Tracy Ocasio
March 17, 2010
<snipped>
James Virgil Hataway, the man at the center of the high-profile Tracy Ocasio missing person's case, won't go on trial in a separate attempted murder case in Seminole County until late April, at the earliest.

At a routine pre-trial conference Wednesday, attorneys told Circuit Judge Donna McIntosh that the only major work yet to be done in the Seminole case is taking the sworn statement of the woman he's accused of attacking here nine months before Ocasio disappeared. The woman told authorities that she had driven Hataway, 29 of Ocoee, home Aug. 7, 2008, and was dropping him off when he choked her, tried to snap her neck and banged her head into the ground.

Hataway could go on trial April 26, at the earliest.

He was arrested in the Seminole case after he was named a person of interest in a similar but much higher-profile case in Orange County last year.

Tracy Ocasio disappeared May 27 from a sports bar in Metrowest during an Orlando Magic NBA playoff run. She was last seen leaving the bar with Hataway. Her car was found a half mile from his home. She has not been found. Hataway has not been charged.

Tuesday, April 20, 2010 11:44:39 AM
ORLANDO -- A new search is planned for missing Ocoee woman Tracy Ocasio.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, a new tip in Ocasio's disappearance has sparked an upcoming search.

Joe Ocasio, the missing woman's father, said he and volunteers with a local chapter of the Central Florida Search and Rescue will mount a search in Ocoee and MetroWest on May 8.

No details were given about the tip.

However, the group will search the area near the Taproom in MetroWest, which was the last place Ocasio had been seen with James Hataway.

Hataway is being held on unrelated attempted first-degree murder charges in a 2008 attack.

"ORALNDO Fla. - There is a new possible tip in the case of a missing Ocoee woman Tracy Ocasio.

The woman’s mother confirmed Tuesday that they have received a letter from a man who claims to have knowledge of several murders.

The letter is from a man who alleges that he once dated Amanda Case who is the mother of James Hataway’s daughter.

Tracy Ocasio was last seen leaving the Tap Room Bar on Raleigh Street in Orlando with James Hatatway on May 26, 2009. Their encounter was caught on the bar’s surveillance tape. Hataway is in the Seminole county jail on unrelated charges and has not been charged in Ocasio’s disappearance.

According to the man concerning the latest tip, he claims he knows of three murders that were committed by Case. He also provided a map that will lead police to evidence in the case.

The letter and a map were sent to a Tampa area TV station as well as Ocsaio’s parents.

The map purportedly shows two Orlando area lakes, Lake Susannah and Little Lake Barton, where bodies and a gun were disposed of.

The investigation into the latest tip is ongoing."

Investigators drain Lake Carter and find human skull

Apopka - Officials confirm they have found a "significant" amount of human bones at Lake Carter, which is just east of State Road 429.

The remains include a human skull and a bone that appears to be from a man's body.
........................
Tests results on the bone should determine whether the bone belongs to one of two people missing from Orange County for about two years.

 • Onda Christopher George, of Apopka, has been missing since Feb. 12, 2009. He was 29 at the time.
 • Tracy Ocasio, of Ocoee, has been missing since May 26, 2009. She was 27 at the time.

Mothers hope human bones will bring closure
The mothers of missing Onda "Chris" George and Tracy Ocasio hope the discovery will bring closure.

By Bianca Prieto and Walter Pacheco, Orlando Sentinel
7:35 p.m. EST, February 22, 2011

As law-enforcement officers slogged through waist-deep muck scouring Apopka's Lake Carter for human remains on Tuesday, two mothers with a painful connection waited for word that could bring their respective two-year nightmares to an end.

Rachael George and Liz Ocasio, whose adult children went missing separately under suspicious circumstances in 2009, hope the discovery of human remains at the lake will bring one or both closure.
..........................
An Apopka detective who was searching the area on his hands and knees Monday uncovered a bone in the reeds near the lake's edge. An Orange-Osceola medical examiner confirmed it was of human origin.

Investigators and agents from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement descended on Lake Carter early Tuesday to search for more evidence. By noon, cadaver dogs hit on several spots and more bones were found. Officials then decided it was time to drain the lake.
