Eugene police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a man whose body was found in the Willamette River on Sunday.

Foul play is not suspected in the man’s death, but Eugene police detectives and the state medical examiner’s office have been unable to identify him. His body was found by firefighters during a training exercise on the river near the Autzen footbridge.

He is described as a white male in his 50s or 60s. He was about 5-feet-6-inches tall and 150 pounds with brown eyes, deteriorated teeth, a gray beard and moustache and collar-length brownish hair.

He has no tattoos or other identifying marks. It appeared that the man’s body had been in the river no more than a few days.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Ralph Burks at 682-5166.

The body was discovered on August 2 by fire department personnel training on the river. Autopsy results ruled out foul play and labeled the cause of death as a presumed drowning. The man also had methamphetamine in his blood.

The man had no identification on him, and his fingerprints weren't in the national database. Not only that, but he had no identifying markings on his body, such as tattoos or scars. No one in the homeless community knew who this individual was either.

Namus says this UID was wearing what looked like a house key in a lanyard around his neck, which makes you wonder if he lived alone and therefore wasn’t missed. PMI is up to 3 weeks so DLC would have been early-mid August.
