Identified! PA - Allegheny Co., human remains found, Oct'09 - Aaron Smith

I looked around but all I could find is that they were determined to be human and are at the medical examiners office to determine approximate age, gender, etc. as of yesterday.

I'll keep an eye out.

I'm just bumping this up if I may please to see if anyone knows any more on this.

Penn Hills is about 30 minutes from where I live. I never even heard of this until now. I will keep an eye out for any updates.

So many missing people in the area... I really hope this clears one of the cases up for the sake of the family...

A very nice person emailed me with this so I thought I should put it here to help find out who this person is.Maybe we can help.

Investigation revealed the bones belong to a man, possibly black, who was between 25 and 35 years old. The man was likely 5 feet 6 inches tall and probably died about a year ago, Medical Examiner Dr. Karl Williams said.

Healed broken ribs and nose, strenuous exercise, lifts and squats? Sounds like maybe he could have been a boxer?

He might have been a boxer, although most amateur boxers (aside from the backyard kind) don't get hurt as much as those that participate in Mixed Martial Arts, or MMA. However, iirc, neither type of sport does much heavy lifting or squats. In particular, boxers need to develop more of a "runner's leg", that's why they jump rope, run up steps, etc. Big muscles that are created by lifts and squats could slow down a boxer in the ring.

He might have been a powerlifter and/or bodybuilder that gave up on lifting and decided to pursue another sport, like boxing or MMA. Or he could have been one of the few lifters that take steroids that caused him to be hotheaded and get into a few brawls, and that could be the source of the healed fractures.

Here's some info on MMA, it's popular among some young people because it's relatively "no-holds barred" fighting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mixed_martial_arts

(I have a friend that's a boxing trainer, so that's where I learned about boxers and exercising. I didn't ask him about this situation specifically, I'm just going by recalling a few of our prior conversations, hope my memory didn't fail me this time.)

I wonder if this could be murder victim Craig Lee White? White was reported missing in 1990 (from NJ) White was lifting weights when Jesse Watkins asked him to go into the woods with him and help him cut poles. Jesse Watkins was convicted of his murder in February 2009, despite no body being found.

Despite the fact that White disappeared from NJ, Watkins was apparently in Philadelphia PA soon after White's disappearance.

Apparently, despite White saying he'd be right back, he and Watkins went on some sort of road trip:

Generally speaking, how accurate are LE when they say that the bones have been there a year? Is it plausible to think of a murderer driving 400 miles with a body or deceiving the victim into driving that far with him?

MMA is a much better thought. The boxer I used to know did a lot of squats trying to strengthen his thighs and calves so he could get force into his punches. He did a lot of running and jumprope, too. I think it would take more than routine working out to leave that much evidence in the bones.

There can be a lot of slack in those estimates of time of death, but I doubt as much as 18-19 years? Otherwise it looks like a good possibility.

I'm about 30 miles away and on the news, they estimated that the body was only there about 1 year. I will pay more attention now.
So many young men have been murdered in Pittsburgh area due to drugs.
Have they released the cause of death yet?
Seems like he was physically fit.
Gun wound?

I think this UID was identified but cannot figure out who he was. If you click on Donjeta's link, there is no profile and it says "Rest in Peace, Aaron".

at that site they actually have a memorial page but there is no Aaron listed there:

I could not find Soc. Sec. Death Index record that matches this date and place.

His name was Aaron Smith and he was one of those many, many cases that never got any media coverage even after his remains were ID'd.

do you have a citation for that CCJD? I did not see him in the Penn Missing Persons website.

I didn't know anything about Mr Smith until I had called the Allegheny County MEO about another case. The person I spoke with had been looking at my site and let me know that the Penn Hills remains had been identified and gave me his name.
