Missing 4-Yr-Old Boy in Mendota

Mendota Police are conducting a search for the 4-year-old who disappeared around 4pm. Alex Mercado was last seen by a sibling walking away from home at the intersection of Tuft and Sorenson in Mendota.

Police say Mercado was wearing a red shirt with a black logo (possibly an eagle) tan pants, and no shoes

Mendota police search for missing boy, 4

Mendota police are seeking the publics help in locating a missing 4-year-old boy last seen walking away from his home about 5 p.m. today.

The boy, Alex Christopher Mercado, was wearing a red shirt with a black logo and tan pants near Tuft and Sorenson avenues, Police Chief Jerry Galvin said. The boy was not wearing shoes, he said.

Alex lives near Pierce Rojas Park, Galvin said.

Alex was last seen at an outdoor festival on October 30, 2009. He was last seen wearing a red shirt with a black logo and brown pants.

Surprisingly, there are only 4 SO's within a mile of Alex's home (2 with crimes against children). But if there was an outdoor festival, possibly at the park near his home, as NCMEC suggests, who knows who else could have been in the area.

10/31/09 11:25 a.m. UPDATE:
FBI is in Mendota at the request of Mendota Police. They arrived in town Friday night.

Police are searching Pierce Rojas Park and the neighborhood where the boy was last seen.

As of Saturday morning, the boy was still missing.

He went missing at around 4:00 p.m. Friday. Mendota Police and local community members are canvassing neighborhoods trying to locate the boy.

It is unknown whether foul play was involved.

My *guess/speculation* at this point is that the festival may have been at the park very near his home.

Search continues for missing Mendota boy

Mendota police and the Fresno County Sheriff's Office continue to search this afternoon for a 4-year-old boy missing since Friday afternoon. Alex Christopher Mercado was last seen near his home near Pierce Rojas Park at Tuft and Sorenson avenues about 5 p.m. Friday.

A sheriff's spokesman said a department helicopter has joined the effort, which is now focusing in the agricultural areas around the west Fresno County town.

A crime scene has been set up at a neighbor's home; but authorities have not released any more information.
