Gastonia police are asking the public's help in finding a man who has been missing for nearly a month.

Police say they are looking for Keith Raymond Whitworth, 47, who lives on Greenwich Terrace in Gastonia. According to police, Whitworth was last seen Dec. 2, at the corner of Ashton and Miller streets in Gastonia.

His girlfriend reported him missing after he failed to return home for several days.

It is difficult to assist the police and the families when so little information is put out there. Granted this might be all LE knows, but it is really beneficial when family or locals help put out the word as to some of the missing person's habits.

I don't think it is Keith. The remains were skeletonized and Keith has only been missing since Dec 2.

Hopefully they can ID the remains so at least one family can get closure.

Every time I hear of a body being found in NC I think of Kyle Fleischman. I guess Wilmington is a little too far from Charlotte for it to be Kyle.

I hope this man is found soon and safe.

I cn't find anything new on google.
Does anybody have updates?
Keith has been missing way too long.

Bodies are not as obvious as people think they are. A couple of years ago, remains were found near here in a ditch beside a busy road, in a place where a dozen people a day walk their dogs. The police estimated she could have been there up to six months.

I looked at the Google Earth shot of the location that corresponds to the helicopter footage, to see if the body was possibly there when the Google Earth shot was taken.

I can't see anything that looks like a body in the shot, but it would be difficult to see if it was there.

One interesting thing though. On street view, a couple of utility trucks are parked right at the spot where one would access that area from York Road.

Two workers were dumping water in a wooded area when they located some skeletal remains. The remains were later identified as Keith Raymond Whitworth from Gastonia, North Carolina.

He had been reported missing by his girlfriend after she dropped him off at a friend’s home on December 1, 2009. Friends reported seeing him on December 2, but since that date, there had been no further contact with anyone.

The Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the victim death a homicide. After a lengthy multijurisdictional investigation between Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department and Gastonia police agencies, information is still needed to help make an arrest in the case.
