"ANCHORAGE -- An Anchorage police officer was shot several times as he sat in his parked patrol car today in an apparent drive-by shooting, a police spokesman said.

The officer was in a residential area near downtown after taking a report about an assault that had occurred elsewhere in the city. Someone then drove up to the side of the cruiser and opened fire at about 2 a.m., police spokesman Lt. Dave Parker said."

Reports say that the officer has come through surgery and it is hoped he will make a full recovery. We can pray that he will.

Prayers for a full recovery. Hoping that the P*S is caught and put away for ever.

Oh this is terrible. I sure hope this officer recovers. It seems as though our police officers are looked upon as targets anymore. Scary.

Prayers going up for this Officer and family.

"ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- An Anchorage police officer was ambushed without provocation by unknown gunmen early today as he sat in his patrol car working on an apparently unrelated assault case, police said, and city officials vowed to catch those responsible.

"We are shocked, we are outraged, we are angered," Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan said at an afternoon press briefing. "This officer was doing what he does every day and that is keeping the community safe. When somebody attacks a police officer, they're attacking our entire community."

"......"He was sitting in a police car, he was in a police uniform. He was shot because he was a police officer," Koch said. "There's nothing random about it."

This quote is particularly heart-wrenching and gives us an idea of the trauma involved:

"The officer underwent surgery and was listed in stable condition, Koch said. The officer's name is not being immediately released because his wife has been in the hospital with him and has not yet had time discuss the shooting with their children, Koch said."

We can pray that by the time the children hear about their father, he'll be out of the woods. My prayers are with this man and his family. The northwest LE are getting far more than their fair share of pain recently IMO.

"47-year old Anchorage Police Officer Jason Allen was on routine patrol when he was ambushed early Saturday morning by an unidentified gunman in a passing car. He was shot at least five times in his arms and torso."

"The officer was very severely injured but the officer fought and remained conscious, provided information and did a very good job," Koch said.

Allen was taken to the hospital in serious condition, but is expected to survive. Late Saturday evening police said he was "doing well" and speaking with his family on the phone."

We've got a name, finally. Still no suspects. But Officer Allen is speaking with his family by phone. That made my day.
