Israeli family stunned by grisly murder
Ottawa man accused of killing boyfriend, stuffing body in suitcase

Sunday was supposed to be a day of celebration for Eran Allon’s family.
Together, they had planned to travel the short distance from their suburban home in Petah Tikva, Israel to the airport in nearby Tel Aviv. Allon, their 29-year-old son and brother, was coming home.
On Monday, instead of holding a joyous homecoming, Allon’s family were planning his funeral. The well-known hairdresser and prominent member of the gay community in his hometown was found dead Thursday in Montreal. A passerby found his body stuffed inside a suitcase on a street corner in the city’s downtown core.
Several hours later, Ottawa police got a call from a man who wanted to turn himself in. Michael-Andrew Garreau, 33, was picked up and handed off to Montreal police, who interrogated him before charging him Saturday afternoon with second-degree murder. Police have said Garreau, who lives in Ottawa, confessed to the crime while being interviewed by investigators.
Allon’s family members were shocked by news of his death, but understood the romantic relationship between him and Garreau, once considered “loving” by friends of the couple, had recently turned rocky.
