At the world's top luxury hotels, no task for the concierge is impossible. The following are some of the most unique and interesting requests made--and filled--by the hotel staff.

This one bothered me: Another guest begged the concierge to find an all-day sitter for his 4-year-old son on Christmas Day; the concierge found not one, but two.

An ALL day baby sitter for a child on Christmas day?

Others are quite funny, and the celebrity requests are just stupid, lol.

Those were interesting--almost makes me want to consider (yet another) career change--sounds like concierges (is that the correct plural?) get some really interesting challenges!

I've found some of the various backstage riders to be pretty funny--a loooong list is here: http://www.thesmokinggun.com/backstagetour/index.html

Thanks for that RLynne. I didn't know Diana Krall had twins. I knew she was married to Elvis Costello, but no kids.

Celine Dion I can vouch for is one nice lady without alot of demands. As far as I could see anyway. Children's Choir is right. However I saw her backstage behind some curtain sticking her head down in something. Being all like I think I'm in on something I'm checking it out. Here it's a machine like a vaporizer for her voice. I guess casino air hurts the voice and she has to vaporize it. Meditating a little in there it looked like.

An ALL day baby sitter for a child on Christmas day? Not everyone celebrates Christmas, but if that kid did then I hope the sitters made it the best one of his life (since the parents didn't seem interested in making their son happy).

People can certainly be creative in their desires. Covering the sand on the beach for a guest made me giggle. I guess we wouldn't have been too off the wall if we'd have asked the hotel to add ice cubes to the pool since the water was too warm?

About the guest needing the babysitter for the day. There could be some very valid reasons IMO
As someone earlier mentioned, not everybody celebrates Christmas was my first thought. Even if they do, bad things happen even on Christmas, they may have had a medical emergency or some other serious thing happen either to themselves, or maybe to another child, we don't know if the 4 yo was the only child with them. Maybe they had to go to be around some relatives and creepy Uncle Joe couldn't be trusted around their child?
Whatever the reason, I hope the child had a good day and I'll admit to being curious on what a babysitter working Christmas Day might make?

I absolutely HATE sand....always have. I would want SOD on the beach:dance:

Our local beach eroded to the point of being sod. It's way nicer to walk on sod rather than scorching sand but I'm sure the lakefont homeowners are quite happy the erosion issue has been remedied... for now anyway.

We should all put our heads together and make up some 'unique' requests that we could ask for. The concierge doesn't only work for the important guests, right?
