TEMPE, Ariz. -- A Scottsdale couple identified as "persons of interest" in the investigation into the disappearance of 8-month-old Gabriel Johnson took a polygraph test on Friday.

Jack and Terri Smith said they're doing everything they can to help police find the missing infant.

There would be nothing that they could charge us with because we have done nothing,” said “We've done everything that the police have asked us.”

Tempe police said they believe the couple may know more about the missing child's whereabouts than they're telling investigators.

Earlier this week, CBS 5 News was there for a phone conversation between the Smiths and Elizabeth Johnson, 23, who was arrested last week in Florida on suspicion of custodial interference after she didn't show up for a custody hearing in Arizona.

But in the same call, Tammi Smith admitted she drove Johnson to court to file the paternity request. She even made three copies of the paperwork that clearly labeled her cousin, Craig Cherry, as the possible father of the boy she wanted to adopt.

Smith told CBS 5 News she never read it because she was in a hurry.

The thing with Tammi is, If she had nothing to do with this case, she'd walk away. BUT SHE DOESN"T!

When TS's most ardent supporter on her fanpage asked her to please change to the correct numbers (I witnessed this) TS said something to the effect that it was "her detective's number".

Since the tips are to go elsewhere, this not only delays the tips getting to where they could be properly processed, it obstucts the duties of the detective investigating Tammi by potentially flooding her with phone calls.

Although it is the number for Detective Ramirez, who is working Gabriel's case. One of our members called, spoke to her and confirmed that.

Yes, I meant that Tammi spoke of Det Ramirez as "her detective" as a narcissistic way to describe the Detective charged with investigating Tammi, lol. As I understand it, the tip numbers were set up to divert calls for proper processing and would then be passed on to where they should go. Did Det. Ramirez tell the websleuther that she wanted calls to go directly to that number rather than the numbers listed on the posters and the Bring Home Gabriel page?

I'm not sure: is it Det. Ramirez's job to actually FIND Gabriel, or to investigate the criminal actions in the case? Who would be responsible for the actual ACTIONS to take Gabriel into custody if he is found? Would that be the FBI?

As for who would take him into custody, that would be the first law enforcement officer to make contact with him, regardless of which agency.

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Tempe investigators said they have gotten several tips about Gabriel Johnson from an unusual place -- Nashville, Tenn.

According to those who know her, Elizabeth Johnson has never been to Nashville. She has no contacts there. But Tammi Peter Smith does. That's where she opened her first Healing Waters clinic back in 2004.

Tempe police said they are taking the connection seriously, naming the Smiths as persons of interest in the case.

"There would be nothing that they could charge us with because we have done nothing, we've done everything that the police have asked us," Tammi Peter Smith said.

Tammi and Jack Smith said their only priority is the safe return of 8-month-old Gabriel, and said it was Elizabeth who was driving the adoption plans. Not them.

"We did not do the adoption papers like she wanted. She wanted to keep pushing it along, pushing it along," Tammi Smith said.

To me, the body language of the Smith Couple- Jack and Tammi, whom Elizabeth Johnson told they could adopt Baby Gabriel is suspicious. My feeling is that it indicates that police should change their status from “People of Interest” to “People Who Should Be In the Next Cell Next to Elizabeth Johnson” While the recently released photos of the baby show him alive on the 26th of December, albeit abused and upset, what is equally disturbing to me was Tammi Smith’s sound bite on camera. Her communication skills and body language speak volumes to me.

It is DEFINITELY odd that Tammi was:

a. in contact with Elizabeth during the time period the baby went missing and

b. that she was the only one allowed in the jail to visit Gabriel’s mother (whom she is attempting to throw under the bus by saying that she believed Elizabeth duped her and gave the baby to another couple. But now the more we learn, it appears more and more that TAMMI SMITH MAY BE THE MASTERMIND behind this whole ordeal .

c. that she is still in contact with Elizabeth

d. that Tammi said told her she must be “worried sick” when she had not heard from Elizabeth

e. has a way too confident swagger and loud tone as part of her demeanor

e. that she first met Elizabeth at a Boston airport.

Well that's a crock of BS! WHO facilitated the whole "fake paternity" carp, naming her cousin as the father so T & S would be free and clear to adopt Gabe? WHO put EJ in touch with an adoption specialist? WHO referred to Gabe as H's "baby brother" and the "new addition to our family"?

This woman needs to stop talking! Well, maybe we don't want her to . . .

Or alternately, could you tell me more information on what interview that was specifically so I can go find it?

Something I'm curious about, how is it TS can be unfit enough to lose custody of her own three kids, but then be able to adopt H?

It was a private adoption... there are a lot of rumblings that it was a hinky private adoption... it remains to be seen. (I don't put it past them that they hinked it up... but it has to be proven, first. TS's background would have never seen her get H had she went through the normal adoption process, where checks and balances are in place to protect an adoptive child from a person with questionable character)

GREAT THREAD!!! I first saw the Smiths on, I think, the "Today" show (may have been their very 1st interview?) ;I didn't know anything about the case then and my dumb ole self actually FELT SORRY for the Smiths!:banghead: I just thought,"Jeez, these poor people, just trying to lovingly adopt a child and they get screwed over..."-- BOY was I wrong!!! Now, after all I have read and seen re. the Smiths- esp, of course, "Ringmaster TAMMY", it is so clear that they are up to their necks in this horrible mess. NOTHING TS says rings true and much of it makes little or no sense. I agree with the general consensus that, if TS were so innocent or (TS's favorite word- "duped", she would have NO reason to still be appearing on any and all TV shows. Possibly LE is "prodding" the producers of these shows into keeping her "booked", because she sure is digging herself in deeper with every sentence out of that smirking mouth. And I thought Lillian Glass' body language analysis was incredible. I really, REALLY want to know why TS lost custody of her girls; if anyone knows, please tell me. Maybe it's already been posted, but I didn't see it. TS is a very, very scary woman... how much longer will it be until EJ tells ALL she knows...

Tempe, Ariz. -- Tammi and Jack Smith say they were looking out for the best interest of Gabriel Johnson when they started spending time with him and his mother, Elizabeth Johnson, nearly a month ago.

"We had a complete bond with him," said Tammi Peter-Smith.

The Smiths told CBS5 they are confident little Gabriel is alive. They were in contact with Elizabeth Johnson up until she was arrested, and they could hear Gabriel through the phone in the background.

"I heard the baby babble... I heard the baby cry, " Smith said.
They even received text messaged disputing the threats Elizabeth made about hurting Gabriel.

"Immediately after she sent him the text that said she killed the baby, she sent us a text saying that she did that to get back at the father and that the baby was fine," said Jack Smith.
