Nearly two years after his disappearance, Calvin Vanness' family remains optimistic they will, one day, learn what happened to the Belleville man. Vanness, 65, was last heard from on March 26, 2008.
With Lloyd's disappearance grabbing headlines over the past few days, Vanness' son, Travis, said he can sympathize with her family.
"It's probably worse for them right now," Travis, 29, said. "They should have a lot of hope because it's been a few days. I really hope they find her."
While Lloyd's case has been prominent in the news and a Facebook group dedicated to finding her boasts more than 37,000 people, Vanness' case has faded from the public spotlight. Regardless, Belleville police have not declared the man's disappearance as a cold case and the detective investigating Vanness' disappearance, Peter Goulah, is in constant communication with the family.

Anyone who may have information regarding Vanness' disappearance is asked to contact Det. Peter Goulah at 613-966-0882, ext. 2322 or Crime Stoppers at 613-969-8477.

Kingston Police may release information today on whether the discovery of a man’s body could be related to a missing Belleville man.
Media Relations Officer Constable Mike Menor says he will speak to officers about the possibility the remains, discovered in a ravine near Highway 15 on Monday evening, are those of Calvin Vanness.

My thoughts are with his family today.

However, Belleville police Chief Cory McMullan offered some new details which had previously not been disclosed.

McMullan said Vanness was seen, in his car, leaving the Quinte Mall in the early afternoon of March 26 and, shortly thereafter, made a phone call to his brother in Arnden saying he would be visiting him and expected to arrive there between 6 and 6:30 p.m. No one has heard from Vanness since and his apartment was found with the television set and lights left on. It was also evident, McMullan said, that the last time Vanness had last taken his required medication was on March 26.

"On March 27, between 2 and 2:30 a witness, known to Mr. Vanness, reported they observed Mr. Vanness' vehicle driving southbound on Highway 37 at a high rate of speed," the chief said. A few days later his vehicle was found near Kingston.

It must be extremely disheartening for the family as time marches on with no resolution.

BELLEVILLE - Calvin Vanness’ death remains a mystery, almost seven years after he disappeared.
Upwards of $60,000 in rewards — $50,000 from the Ontario government and $10,000 for the City of Belleville — is still available for information that would lead to solving the 2008 murder of the 65-year-old city man.

Vanness disappearance remains a mystery

Over the years, Travis Vanness has slowly come to terms with the disappearance of his father, Calvin.

Still, the 36-year-old city man, who hasn’t seen his father since 2008, urges anyone with information to contact police.

Travis said Tuesday he is frustrated about the lack of information that has come forward since 2008, both from the public and police.

“Years back, there was one investigator that would give us a little bit of information,” said Travis, adding he was told by the officer that a woman came forward but nothing was “put on paper.”

“I’m pretty certain the cops virtually know who did it. But there’s not enough proof and without a body it’s impossible.”

Travis said his family simply wants to bury Calvin’s body and put him to rest.

“If someone out there knows where he is located... that information is what is most important to me and the rest of the family.”
