Seems to be a male could have been there for a year per later reports.

LOS ANGELES—Los Angeles police are investigating the discovery of a human skull in Griffith Park.

Officer Rosario Herrera says a hiker found the skull shortly after 5:30 p.m. Monday in the 4,200-acre park. The Los Angeles County coroner's office says the skull is believed to be a man's. However, there's no information yet on how the man died or how long the skull had been at the park.

Skyline Trail is a dirt road off Griffith Park Drive, above Zoo Drive and the Los Angeles River channel, which skirts the north edge of the park. Human remains turn up from time to time in Griffith Park, which is roughly 6.5 square miles and one of the largest urban parks in the nation. In January 1990, the Los Angeles Times headlined a story "Bodies Blot Griffith Park Scenery and Reputation" after 10 corpses turned up in the park in the space of two years. That spike included the discovery of six bodies in the space of 15 days in 1989.
