WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer explained the gravity of that statement: “This would apparently foreclose any defense that someone outside of the Anthony family is responsible for that child’s death.”

But last night WFTV news director Bob Jordan said the station’s source was “highly credible.” He also said the story wasn’t a one-source report, although Benhaida was the only person quoted about the alleged affair.

George Anthony Texted Alleged Other Woman

WFTV learned more about the "other woman" who says she was in George Anthony's life. The woman says the relationship was going on while Caylee was missing and for months afterward. River Cruz told WFTV she never wanted to get involved, but had to when detectives came knocking.

George Anthony's alleged mistress left the Orange County Sheriff's Office Monday with her camera and phone, which detectives had returned after lifting evidence from them. She says she's not trying to make money by revealing their year-long affair.

WFTV was told she met George in the summer of 2008 when she volunteered to help find Caylee and by Thanksgiving of that year after their affair had started, George told her Caylee's death was an accident that snowballed out of control.

WFTV obtained a text message she says George sent her just five days after Caylee's remains were found near the Anthonys' house.

It says, "Just thinking about you! I need you in my life."

Its date and time stamp says December 16 at 4:22pm.

"If you're asking me, I stand behind everything," Cruz said.

"Do you feel George knew, based on what he told you, what happened to Caylee?" WESH 2 News reporter Bob Kealing asked. "I'm not going to tell you. I'm sorry," Cruz replied.

"I was first approached about this story by the National Enquirer. That should tell you something about the people's motives," Conway said.

Conway denied George Anthony ever made that statement. He said the motives of Cruz, and her sister, Skye Benhaida, are questionable.

"The sheriff's office is doing an investigation. They're thorough. They're serious about this, and they're going to interview and take statements from anybody that has information relevant to the death of Caylee Anthony," Conway said. "What I can tell you is that George Anthony did not make that statement."

"I can tell you that everything I have told the detectives, I've sworn under, and I've made my statement, and I've told the truth," Cruz said. "There's nothing I want to cash in on. If anything, he's taken money from me."

WFTV&#8217;s Kathi Belich broke the mistress story Friday night, but the initial reports relied on information from Cruz&#8217;s sister. Those first reports raised questions about the alleged mistress, which today&#8217;s report helped answer.

WFTV, by the way, is an ABC affiliate, but it is not owned by ABC. Rather, it is owned by Cox. Belich has reported on fees that ABC News paid to use photos and video of Caylee.

The 2-year-old's mother, Casey Anthony, is charged with first-degree murder in the case, which is scheduled to go on trial in May 2011.

Cruz said she became intimately involved with Anthony after Caylee Anthony's disappearance.

During the course of the alleged relationship, Cruz claimed George Anthony told her Caylee's death was accidental.
