Police asked for the public's help Friday in tracking down a woman who may have taken her 4-month-old son without permission of his father.
Maria Carmen Alicia Alfaro and her 4-month-old son Alexander Ricardo Leyva have been missing from the 21000 block of Saticoy Street in Canoga Park since about 6 p.m. Thursday, Los Angeles police said.
She had told family members she was taking the baby to a parenting class but has not been heard from since.
Investigators believe she may have taken the baby to Mexico accompanied by a man named Carlos Alvarez. He was described as a "person of interest" who is a male Hispanic about 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10.
The child is described as a male Hispanic with brown hair and brown eyes; he is 22 inches tall, weighs 20 pounds and was last seen wearing a brown shirt.
Alfaro, termed as a suspect in the child's apparent abduction, was described as a 26-year-old Hispanic with brown hair, brown eyes, about 5-foot-5, 165 pounds and last seen wearing a black tank top, blue jeans and black shoes.
They may be traveling in a silver 1999 Volkswagen Passat license 4SBE318, or a green Ford Expedition license 5ROW643.
Police asked anyone with information to call Topanga Area detectives at 818-756-4800 during business hours, or 1-877-LAPD-24-7 during non-business hours.
