Updated at 11:43 PM today
BRONX -- Authorities are investigating the death of a toddler in the Bronx after police officers responding to a 911 call from her grandmother found her unconscious.
Police say Sanaa Brewington was found with her mother's boyfriend about 3:20 a.m. Saturday at an apartment in the Soundview section.
The nearly 2-year-old girl was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Medical Examiner's Office spokeswoman Ellen Borakove says Sanaa's death was ruled a homicide.
She says the cause of death was blunt impact injuries to the torso with lacerations of the liver, the spleen, the pancreas and the duodenum.

The police said the companion of the girl’s mother had fallen asleep while taking care of the girl in an apartment in Soundview, in the Bronx. He woke to find her unresponsive. The girl’s grandmother called 911 just before 3:30 a.m. Saturday. Emergency medical workers took Sanaa to Jacobi Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead on arrival around 4:30 a.m.
Sharman Stein, a spokeswoman for the Administration for Children’s Services, said the agency “is investigating the fatality.”
