Coughlin case gets new spark from Calif.

It has been more than 35 years since Joanne Coughlin vanished from friends and family, but photos found in the possession of a convicted California killer may shed some light on what happened to the North Side woman.

Coughlin went to the European Health Spa on Boardman-Canfield Road on Dec. 27, 1974, wearing a pair of blue jeans, black top and a green leather jacket. The 21-year-old aspiring actress also had plans to meet her boyfriend later that night, but has not been seen since the health spa visit.

Huntington Beach police received the calls after releasing more than 100 photographs they believe were taken by Rodney Alcala in the 1970s.

Rodney Alcala could be the USís most prolific serial killer

With his long, curly, grey hair, denim jacket and thin-lipped sneer, Rodney Alcala never looked much like the kind of lawyer who could defend one of the most notorious serial killers in American history. Thatís because the 66-year-old amateur photographer and former Dating Game contestant ó said to have an IQ of 160, the same as Albert Einsteinís ó wasnít a lawyer. He was the accused, who had chosen to represent himself on five counts of first-degree murder. <snipped>
