I guess the yellow car in the motorcycle photo wasn't Alacala's Datsun F-10 unless he repainted it:

"Robison withstood a lame cross by Alcala, although the accused was able to show he'd misidentified Alcala's mini station wagon as a Datsun B210 instead of an F-10. Won't matter: I'd guess there are two young jurors to whom Datsun is as unfamiliar as Studebaker.

But just in case the car does come into play, here's an amazing tidbit gleaned from Robison: 30 years later, HBPD still has the Little Blue Wagon of Terror in evidence."

That's pretty amazing that they kept the car all these years!

The motorcycle in that photo (and the helmet a girl is seen wearing in another photo) could still be his, though:

"Inside the storage unit detectives found an old motorcycle and other junk."

I wonder if that might be her car. If his motorcycle broke down and she's giving him a ride, that car probably doesn't have room for the motorcycle in it. Could have removed the front wheel and set it up like this to tow.

I would say you are correct. I read a story in the news that he had motorcycles and drove them alot. I believe the motorcycle was his and he either pretended to break down or she was broke down and he offered to take her picture on his bike. I dont like this one at all, psycho serial killer+desert+woman woed by his charm and bike=probable victim.

I haven't figure out how to post larger pictures. I can do the small thumbnails, but if we want to use a large picture at the beginning of these threads I need a little assistance :)

Could this woman be Eleanor Berry, last seen at a World Championship Chili Cookoff in Terlingua, TX in 1975? (Possibly riding on the back of a motorcycle?) The circumstances sure fit the picture. (Now, that's what I call desert!)

The two pictures of Eleanor vary so much it's hard to say. I think the first picture of Eleanor looks like the UID but it's hard to see the eyes in the UID. Eleanor was 21 when she went missing, but the UID looks a bit older to me. Whatchall think?

That looks like the Mojave Desert in areas where the mountains aren't in view.

What kind of car is that? Can we tell by that little bit there?

Bringing over from main thread.

It looks like Nevada or California type desert area.

I would guess based on the terrain that it is the Palmdale-Lancaster area. This would be less than an hour drive from Alcala's home in Monterey Park.

As for the car, I think it is Alcala's Datsun F10 (A TruTV article indicated that he drove a Datsun F10 in 1979).

I lived in the Palmdale-Lancaster area up until September of 09 and, I agree with Carl, the terrain in the photo definitely looks like that area.

This article refers to Alcala's Datsun as "the Little Blue Wagon of Terror," so I don't think that's his car unless he repainted it.

(Copied from original main thread)

The bike is a Kawasaki III Mach 500, introduced in late 1968. If you blow up the photo you can see its name printed on the frame.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawasaki_Mach_III

Also, the girl in the photo has something going on with her smallest left toe. Is this what you'd call a hammertoe? It's not in line with the others at all.

Can somebody with the software for it blow up the photo and look at that ring on the middle finger of her left hand?

We have a car I.D., thanks to "Pintopower," a car enthusiast at Flickr. Here's what he wrote, and might I add he knows his cars! I wonder how rare the Fiat 128 was in the United States. Wikipedia doesn't have much information on its distribution.

Ok, the car in question is a 1974 or later Fiat 128 Station Wagon, as seen here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/12437672@N07/4219240519/

That model however has the small bumpers but later US cars from 74 and up have these:

I am certain that I am correct. I never miss a tail light. I hope this helps.

Wow, that's what I call an expert! How could he tell buy such a small fragment of a car!

Eleanor Berry went missing in 1975. Alcala was incarcerated 1974- 1977.

Yes, Phyllis Eleanor Berry went missing in 75, at the time I posted her as a possible, we didn't have the info that Alcala had again been thrown in jail at that time. Darn it. I still think she looks like her, down to the space in her teeth and the freckle on her wrist! Which, brings to my other doubt here, how do we know these photographs were all taken personally by Alcala? How do we know that he was not perhaps corresponding with people like him and sharing photos?

Very interesting information about the rarity of this Fiat, again from Pintopower:

Well, the shape of the cars rear section does give the idea of a hatchback rather than a wagon. These were not good sellers in the US. I would be amazed if over 2000 were sold here. I am thinking more like 1000.

I'm hoping it's a good sign that we don't have any reports of a missing woman whose yellow Fiat was found abandoned in the desert or elsewhere, but it still would be nice to hear from whoever this woman is. And that's just assuming it was actually hers, who's to say it wasn't a borrowed car or a rental?

NAMPN has a new casefile for Christine Ruth Thornton, which shows the Alcala woman on the motorcycle.

http://www.nampn.org/cases/thornton_christine.html

Christine has been missing since August 1977, and Apparently, her family believes that she is the woman on the motorcycle. Someone had come forward claiming to be Christine and saying that she is the woman on the motorcycle.

How do the authorities go about "verifying" when someone comes forward like that, especially after so many years? Do they generally just take the person's word, or... ?

Well, I can answer from experience. The Huntington Beach P. D. told me they have no record of the lady on the motorcycle identifying herself as alive. When asked how they can then post that she has been identified, they have no answer.
The reason I know this is because the young lady on that motorcycle is my eldest sister. She went missing in 1977.
I have been trying by any means possible, to get answers...to so many questions. I hope that this forum will help.
