RIP Mr. Escalante, you will be missed. The world needs more teachers like you.

What an amazing person. My 8th grader said she's watching this movie in her Algebra class this week (it's the week before Spring Break...I think that's code for "break out the movies").

"Jaime Escalante dies at 79; math teacher who challenged East L.A. students to 'Stand and Deliver'

He became America's most famous teacher after a 1988 movie portrayed his success at mentoring working-class pupils at Garfield High to pass a rigorous national calculus exam. He died of cancer."

Rest in peace, Mr. Escalante. Job well done.

Well said-thank you. I didn't want to say I was sad to hear this as 79 is good old age. He made a big difference in his world and set a wonderful example. He leaves a good legacy.

You said it. If only there were more teachers like him...it's sad to hear him go. :(

I watched the movie that he was portrayed in, & it made a lot of great difference to classmates & teachers.

RIP, my friend. You will surely be missed.
