Woman says she does not know who she is

By DONNA MELTON - dmelton@sunherald.com

WAVELAND — Police need help identifying a woman found at a gas station Monday.
She was discovered by Sgt. Clay Necaise at 8:37 p.m. when he went to investigate a 911 hang-up at the Waveland Exxon at U.S. 90 and Mississippi 603, Chief James Varnell said.
“When Sgt. Necaise attempted to interview the female she stated that she did not know who she is, where she lived, where she came from or how she got there,” he said.

SUBMITTED BY WAVELAND POLICE DEPARTMENT Police are seeking anyone with information on the identity of a woman found at Waveland Exxon on Monday night. She was admitted to Hancock Medical Center as a Jane Doe.

Officials are hoping someone will recognize the woman, and come forward.
She was wearing a purple shirt, black pants, black sandals and a honey gold/silver watch. Engraved on the watch was "Love, Dream and Believe." She's about 5'6" and weighs around 300 pounds. She also has an obvious scar under her left eye.
If you have information about this woman, call Central Dispatch 24 hours a day at (228) 255-9191. Between 8am and 5pm, call the Waveland Police Department at (228) 467-3669.

She has been identified as Connie May Funk of Abita Springs, Louisiana according to a news release.
According to a news release, the identification was made after a Waveland dispatcher noticed a missing person's report from St. Tammany Parish in Louisiana. That report contained the name of a missing Louisiana woman and the car she drove. When Waveland Police found that car at the city's McDonalds, they contacted the person who initially filed the missing person paperwork. She confirmed the identity of Ms. Funk.

This again brings me to the question of persons identified by WS or other means. I am doing some research and am very interested.

This thread will now get filed under "Identified", yet it was not a WS identification. How does one find those cases where a WS'er was directly responsible for the solving of the case? Is there possibly another way of filing these by WS"ers? I have read almost every thred on the missing and so far found only one that was identified by a poster. Please help or explain the system?
Thanks,
Mensch :)

WAVELAND — An unidentified woman admitted into a hospital under the name of Jane Doe was reported missing a week ago from St. Tammany Parish, Waveland Police Chief James Varnell said this afternoon.
Connie May Funk, 39, didn’t know her name or how she arrived in Waveland when a police officer questioned her Monday night.

Thanks Cubby for posting this. Anyway they are found and/or identified is a blessing! I am just curious about the number listed here in archives are actually attributed to WS'ers as there is so much time put into research by posters with little resolution.
I am particularly interested in the number identified here because it is a group effort and and various points of view and this is certainly a dedicated group.
If anyone has an answer, please post it. I have a few files that need attention of good researchers with a successful track record.
Thanks again, Cubby! :thumb:

I think that even if a WS member turns in a lead that turns out to be the big break, I dont think that LE will ever admit to it. So it is hard to say if the cases are solved by our tips or if they just figured it out themselves. There are a lot of cases out there that have been solved after a tip was given to LE. I think a large part of thoes cases are unidentifieds. I think your best shot is to post your cases individually and hope for the best. I am a believer that the more people that look at it the better the chance is that someone will figure it out.

I had not considered this. I just assumed resolution would be attributed to this group if that was the case. As I read the archives, I am finding out more how they are identified. Thanks, mtrooper.
