Skeletal remains were found on the Newbury side of the beach of Plum Island, Massachusetts. A man was walking along the beach with his dog when the dog found a lower leg bone with a foot attached, still wearing a sock.

Cadaver dogs searched a 3-mile radius around where the remains were found, and they uncovered more (unspecified) bones. LE is still monitoring the beach in case more bones was up.

Other than that, there really isn't anything to go on yet. They don't even know whether the remains are male or female.

From the article: http://www.wcvb.com/news/bones-found-washed-up-on-shore-in-newbury/30227622

Barrett said while it was hard to tell, it appeared to him the remains were from an adult male.

"Could have been a man or a woman, but the sock was big enough that it looked like a guy," Barrett said.

Investigators expect processing of the remains to take several days.

Many locals are speculating that it might be the remains of Richard Decker, who was missing and presumed drowned in the immediate vicinity two years ago: http://www.newburyportnews.com/news...876-af37-5bd6-ab20-ae9a12fb670e.html?mode=jqm

There were other remains found in Newburyport last year that were thought to be Decker's (http://www.apnewsarchive.com/2013/M...ng_sailor/id-3c59d63c427947c4802c904bcd52bb25) but I can't find that a positive identification was ever made.

Decker's case is not listed in any missing persons databases because he's presumed drowned and not considered missing. Though he's kind of a mystery in the first place; apparently little or nothing is known about him before he moved to Newburyport.

That's a different Plum Island in NY. This one is in MA. Not scary as far as I know. It's a nice area with vacation rentals and boaters.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!! I edited my post lol! :blowkiss:

Human bones found over the weekend on a stretch of beach near Fordham Way have been determined to belong to an adult male, according to an Essex County District Attorney's Office spokeswoman...

In recent years, there has been one person known to have been lost at sea locally and not recovered. Seth Coellner, 36, was lost in June 2009 after the 36-foot cabin cruiser he was operating hit the tip of the north jetty in the fog at the mouth of the Merrimack River, about two miles from where the bones were found.

If Coellner's body has never been recovered, I wonder whose leg this article from 2009 speaks of…

NEWBURYPORT — What police believe is a human bone was discovered late Monday night on Plum Island, and it could provide closure to the family of Seth Coellner, who was lost at sea in June (2009) after a tragic boating accident off the mouth of the Merrimack River.

"We're confident it is a human bone," Howard said, adding that it looks to be a femur, or a human thigh bone.

Howard said no other bones were found during another search of the area.

Coellner, a 36-year-old husband and father from Kensington, N.H., has been missing since June 24 after the 36-foot Uniflite cabin cruiser he is believed to have been driving hit the north jetty of the Merrimack River and sank in thick fog.

I can't seem to find any resolution to its finding online.
