This is back from March 17th, but it seems at that time, DiCarlo was saying that Paradkar was not going to be part of Baratov's legal team (at least that is the impression I got from this video below - thoughts?)

FBI director Comey’s firing delayed extradition proceedings for accused Yahoo hacker: lawyer

The lawyer for an Ancaster, Ont. man accused of participating in a massive plot to hack Yahoo email accounts in 2014, says extradition proceedings for his client are taking longer because U.S. President Donald Trump fired FBI director James Comey.

Amedeo DiCarlo said Friday that American officials and the RCMP have still not provided disclosure on the allegations against his client, Karim Baratov.

[...]

Baratov was arrested on March 15 and denied bail a month later after the Crown argued he was a flight risk, could easily access several online bank accounts, along with fake IDs, and that his parents willfully turned a blind eye to his lavish lifestyle pior to his arrest.

An appeal of that decision will be heard on June 5. DiCarlo explained it is possible his client could surrender himself to U.S. authorities on his own if he is granted bail.

"When he is out he can make better decisions," DiCarlo said. "If we need to go to the U.S., I could transer him myself."

Karim Baratov, accused in massive Yahoo hack, appeals decision to deny him bail

TORONTO – Lawyers for a Canadian accused in a massive hack of Yahoo emails will be in an Ontario court Monday to fight a judge’s decision to deny the man bail.

Karim Baratov is appealing an April ruling by Ontario Superior Court Justice Alan Whitten, who found the 22-year-old was too much of a flight risk to be released on bail.

Baratov's lawyer goes to U.S. in bid to free accused hacker

The lawyer for accused Ancaster hacker Karim Baratov says he has gone to Washington to meet with the FBI and district attorney in an effort to expedite his client's day in court.

[...]

"I hope I can skip the Canadian process and go straight to the U.S."

DiCarlo is trying again to get Baratov out of jail to await his extradition hearing.

[...]

DiCarlo said the RCMP recently told him it could take another three months before he can have disclosure. He doesn't want to see Baratov waiting that long and is counting on the Appeal Court to release him.

"I'm hoping to get Mr. Baratov out … If we need to go the U.S. (to deal with the case), I'll transport him myself…," DiCarlo said. "He can't sit in jail any longer, waiting for the system. He wants to be out. He wants to be in the community, and he's just waiting."

Baratov has been asking for material to read and is "pretty much bored."

Aww....poor baby. Why not just skip the extradition hearing and surrender to the US then? Take your chances with the FBI on whether or not you're going to receive bail while awaiting trial.

Accused Ancaster hacker Karim Baratov a ‘small fish,’ says lawyer

TORONTO — Lawyers for a Hamilton man accused in a massive hack of Yahoo emails say a judge who denied their client bail overstated his alleged role in the scheme.

Karim Baratov's legal team was in court Monday appealing an April ruling by Ontario Superior Court Justice Alan Whitten, who decided the 22-year-old was too much of a flight risk to be released on bail.

[...]

Ravin Pillay, another one of Baratov's lawyers, said in court that there's no evidence to suggest his client was involved in the large-scale breach of Yahoo security systems.

Emails between Baratov and his alleged contact in the Russian intelligence service show he was only allegedly hired to hack into 80 accounts, and only allegedly succeeded in accessing seven, Pillay said.

Hacking into several individual accounts is "fundamentally different" from breaching Yahoo's security system and gaining access to data from nearly half a billion accounts, Pillay argued.

Well, well. Look who else has joined this "small fish's" legal team. Ravin Pillay, another Dellen Millard lawyer. So how does this "small fish" who comes from a family who makes a modest income afford at least 3 top priced defence lawyers?

Alleged Yahoo hacker is considering waiving extradition hearing

Karim Baratov, the Hamilton man who is facing charges related to a massive Yahoo hack, is considering waiving his extradition hearing to go straight to trial in the U.S.

U.S. authorities allege Baratov, from suburban Ancaster, was a "hacker-for-hire" with Russian ties.

Baratov's defence lawyer Amedeo DiCarlo has traveled to Washington, D.C., to speak with American authorities about the case.

"I have faith it's going to go better there than it has been here," DiCarlo said after a brief court hearing in Hamilton Superior Court on Friday.

DiCarlo said he hasn't yet decided whether to waive the extradition hearing. He'll return to court on July 7 to announce that decision.

So his lead attorney feels as though he will get bail in the US if he goes there direct to face the charges. Looks like he also believes he won't get any jail time if convicted, or perhaps thinks he can get a good plea deal? I guess crime does pay considering the money this guy has been raking in since he was a kid. He's been doing a lot more than just this recent Yahoo hack IMO.

Ancaster resident Karim Baratov’s extradition hearing set for September

Superior Court Justice Andrew J. Goodman on July 7 set a Sept. 8 extradition hearing in Hamilton for the 22-year-old, who United States authorities allege was a “hacker-for-hire” with suspected Russian ties. Baratov faces charges in the United States related to a massive Yahoo email hacking scandal that allegedly took information from more than 500 million user accounts. Baratov is accused of hacking about 80 of the accounts.

Baratov will be back in Hamilton court July 19 as his lawyer seeks the information that American officials have on the Ancaster resident. The RCMP provided the information and material from laptops and computers seized from Baratov’s home to United States authorities.

[...]

DiCarlo said he has retained legal assistance in the United States and he has been travelling to various locations, including New York, Washington and Los Angeles where the charges originated.

“It’s been a pretty tedious process in the last three weeks,” said DiCarlo, who was last in court in June. “So I’m hoping the next two weeks will be a little bit more fruitful.”
