Belize - Francesca Matus, 52, & Drew De Voursney, 36, murdered, Corozal, 25 Apr 2017

The Child Ministry is allowed to keep the other children for 3 months, however..

https://www.breakingbelizenews.com/...r-launches-custody-battle-remaining-siblings/
But according to reports, the Ministry is now being challenged by the original adopted father of the children, David Cannon, who has recently landed in Belize.

He is of the view that at this time he is the only one fit to best take care of the children.
He has since retained a legal counsel to launch a battle for custody.

So as I feared, looks like this case has gone cold. Such a shame because I'm sure it was easily solvable. I thought the FBI's participation may have helped but it appears it hasn't. I just feel so sorry for the families who will just never know what happened.

It may be heading into cold case mode, but I'm not sure about "easily solvable".

There are multiple crime scenes, burned evidence and severely compromised/decomposed evidence. Any LEA would have their hands full on this one. I've not been anywhere close to being impressed by LEO'S on this one, but then I'm very out of touch with the way of the country.

The odds are definitely severely stacked against justice in this very sad case. Two families and three countries and their citizens affected.

There is not much hope, that is to be sure.

Please give them strength.

Ms Matus was referred to in this article concerning the recent murder of a popular real estate broker.

TORONTO - The real estate impresario brazenly assassinated in a downtown steak house appears whistling clean, according to cops.

And so far detectives appear stymied as to a motive why successful, well-liked father-of-two Simon Giannini’s shining life should end in such a sordid manner.

The 54-year-old was shot to death in what investigators are calling a professional hit at the Michael’s on Simcoe steak house last Saturday night in front of shocked diners in Toronto’s Entertainment District.

Ironically, Giannini was Facebook friends with Francesca Matus, the 52-year-old Keswick woman who was strangled to death with her American boyfriend in a Belize sugar cane field last April.

Matus’ murder remains unsolved.

I didn't know that stuff still happened. My sheltered life.

As someone mentioned above, it looks like Francesca and Drew will not get their justice anytime soon.

I agree that it could have been solved, in the beginning, however now, I don't see how.

Just a little more about the puzzling murder of FM's f.b. real estate friend again and this likely has nothing to do with it- but cannot help but think of the name BELIZE.
Pure speculation, wild imagining, imo.fwiw.

Whoever this was went to great lengths to disguise himself and get away. Police showed portions of the security video that does offer some clues.

Dawson explained it’s “important to note the video distorts colours” so “as a result of descriptions provided by witnesses, we know that the clothing is actually dark in colour.”

But what is most notable is a large letter “B” on the jacket. It was as if the gunman wanted people to look at that. There are other less visible emblems as well.

What it highlights for me is the very different MO. The Toronto case is, IMO, what happens if you hire someone to assassinate someone and avoid having any kind violence. I think the murders of Francesca and Drew were done by someone who was violent and tried to cover it up after.

I'm not reading too much into this. Having 2 people into real estate in the same city and both of the same heritage (Italian) means that they would have had lots of opportunities to cross paths enough to be FB friends.

I won't completely write off any possible connection to their murders, but I'd give it a really, really, really long shot. If both of the murders had actually happened in Toronto, well that would have been a whole 'nother level.

Just my random musings.

A Canadian man has been shot and killed in Corozal in front of his wife and three children. I wonder if this one will be solved?

COROZAL, Belize – Police in Belize say they’re investigating the fatal shooting of a Canadian man.

Police spokesman Raphael Martinez says Gabriel Bochnia was shot Wednesday night as he and his wife and their three children were returning to their home in the Chula Vista area of Corozal.

Martinez says as Bochnia, 38, got out of his vehicle to open the gate, a man with a rag over his face came from behind the bushes and shot him in the abdomen.

He died of his injuries in hospital.

Martiniez says Bochnia’s wife – 27-year-old Jeshanah Maritza Zetina – and the children were not injured and the attacker fled the scene.

Martinez could not say how long Bochnia had lived in Belize or where in Canada he was from, adding that the investigation is in its early stages.

speculation, imo.
http://www.ctv3belizenews.com/index...-catcher-donated-to-corozal-police&Itemid=108
Do you know what a bullet catcher is? Well, the name probably says it all - it’s a piece of equipment used to catch bullets. The bullet catcher is mostly used by Police Departments for ballistic purposes. Here in Belize there are no ballistic facilities, so whenever there is the need to test firearms officers have to find a secluded area to do so. But that won’t be the case anymore because today a Good Samaritan donated a bullet catcher to the Corozal Police Department. The equipment was handed over this morning to Officer Commanding the Corozal Police Formation Miguel Guzman and we were there for the handing over ceremony.

Gabriel Bochnia- G.P Construction Company Limited

“I hope it will help the police station and make a better and safer community.”

It is not yet know if the Bullet Catcher will be left in Corozal for the use of the Corozal Police Department or if it will be used by Belmopan Headquarters.

Toronto man fatally shot in front of home in Belize, leaving family 'devastated'
Martinez said Bochnia had gotten out of his vehicle to open the gate when a man with a rag over his face emerged from behind the bushes, shooting Bochnia in the abdomen.

He died in hospital.

Martinez says Bochnia's wife — 27-year-old Jeshanah Maritza-Zetina — and the children were not injured and the attacker fled.
Martinez could not say how long Bochnia had lived in Belize, adding that the investigation is in its early stages.

Bochnia's death comes just five months after another Ontario resident was murdered in the Central American country.

In a statement to CBC News, Global Affairs Canada said it is in contact with local authorities to gather more information and is ready to provide consular assistance to the family.

"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the Canadian citizen who passed away in Belize," spokesperson Brianne Maxwell said.

Has to be the same guy, IMO...for how man guys name Gabriel Bochnia would live in Belize?

So as per this article, Gabriel Bochnia (and Paul Haberling) were OWNERS of G.P. Construction Company Ltd.

This piece of equipment is what is known as a bullet catcher. It was donated to the Corozal Police Formation by Paul Haberling and Gabriel Bochnia, owners of G.P. Construction Company Limited. Today as the equipment was tested, we found out more about its purpose.

John Deshaies worked in construction - wonder for what company?

Media reports out of the Central American country named John Deshaies, 54, as the prime suspect in the shocking slayings.

But a family friend said investigators are making a scapegoat out of the construction company owner.

Interesting.

Cops believe the gunman was waiting for him and that the Canadian man was targeted. It’s believed he knew his killer, who local media reports say is a former employee known as Polo who’d just been released from prison.

Bochnia had been living in Belize for nearly a decade and had no known enemies, neighbours told Channel 5. It’s believed the suspected triggerman is in custody along with an American national.

Wonder who the "American national" was?

CRIME HUNTER: Will cops catch Belize killer?
For the second time in less than six months, a Canadian is making the long trip home from Belize in a casket.

On Wednesday, Gabriel Bochnia, 38, who grew up in Toronto, was shot to death outside his home in Chula Vista area of Corozal.

In late April, Toronto real estate speculator and part-time resident of Belize, Francesca Matus, 52, of Keswick, was strangled to death with her former U.S. Marine boyfriend.

The crime-ravaged country’s keystone cops have gotten precisely nowhere with Matus’ slaying.

And I fear “big-hearted” Bochnia’s murder will slip between the cracks, as well.

Why? Money.

There are just 9,000 people in Corozal in the northern end of the country where Bochnia and Matus both lived.

Everyone knows everyone.
But no one believes for one second that Bochnia and Matus were murdered in a drugged-out frenzy by some desperate junkie trolling for a fix.

And the Sun source revealed Bochnia had a connection to the much-loved Matus.

One of the men in custody — a man named “Dale” — is drinking buddies with Don Richardson. Richardson — an elderly local potentate — lived across from Matus and was the one who fingered her tenant, a fellow Canadian, in the slayings.
He was quickly sprung because he loved the dead woman like a sister and not a soul doubted him — including Matus’ family.
Another source said the two Americans are tighter-than-this with local cops and any investigations, arrests or convictions are stopped dead in their tracks.

If that’s true, the senseless slayings of Gabriel Bochnia, Francesca Matus and her beau Drew DeVoursney will go ice cold.

I question the integrity of this unidentified "source" in Belize, altho evidently this Toronto Sun journalist is happy to publish anything they say, because hey, it's all in Belize so no one can check for the truth and the police there don't care. I'd like to see this journalist similarly publish unverified allegations about people in Toronto, based on phone conversations with unidentified enemies, I'm sure that would be a big boost to his career.

I posted on Gabriel's thread but there has been an arrest for his murder. The guy they arrested they described as a "construction worker"...

This story indicates the arrested man was recently released from prison and was known to his victim. Also, the MO was very different and crude/careless, unlike the carefully planned and concealed killing of Francesca and Drew.
So I don't personally see a connection. http://edition.channel5belize.com/archives/153871

Belize cops hold tongue in Toronto woman's murder
In an exclusive interview with the Toronto Sun, Matus’ family say police won’t accept — or return — their phone calls, and offer only a shrug on who was behind the slayings that carried all the earmarks of a professional hit.

But with a sickeningly personal touch.

“We’re totally in the dark. That’s the issue,” the family member — who asked not to be identified — told the Sun. “No one gets back to you. Our feeling is that the cops know who did this, a lot of people do, but they’re afraid.”

In addition, the family scoffs at any notion that her tenant, Barrie-native John Deshaies was involved.

In the end, money trumps nearly everything in Belize, the relative added.

“People can be bought very easily down there. They’ll do anything for money,” the relative said, adding that the conviction rate in Belize is a paltry 3%.
As for Francesca Matus’ financial dealings, York Regional Police sorted her Canadian matters for the family in three hours.

In Belize, it’s almost seven months — and counting.
“People there (the population is just 9,000) know what happened, but they’re terrified to talk.” He added: “But the same name keeps coming up.”
