Think I recall reading that elsewhere as well, about the phone left in the car theory. Maybe LE or Gaspo mentioned it.

Ahh okay that makes sense if the source listing JB as the booty call was inaccurate. HOWEVER, I do have one major issue with the facts as you listed them. There is no chance a 20-something year old college male (JB) or female would ever leave his/her cell phone in someone's car overnight. Absolute 0% chance. People today are so addicted and attached to their smart phones, it is literally their life line and connection to the world today and I am sure it was the same way in 2012. I seriously hope LE dove deep into this claim by JB of him being asleep and the phone being in JM's car!

just as a side-thought, remember the crime was 5+ yrs. ago -- I'm not sure "smartphones" were nearly as prevalent then, and so JB may have had a simpler cellphone... or perhaps JM, in a rush, picked up the wrong phone when leaving (i.e. I think there are ways JB's phone could end up in JM's car...). Once again the police already know whatever JB gave as an explanation for his phone pinging in the area, but we're left speculating.

Just reviewed the documents that talk about this, which are pages 109 and 110 in the released documents. A call was made from JB's phone at 4:15 AM, it did not just ping the tower. Also, JB was at the Thrill, but told LE he drove himself home after it closed. Both of those things argue against his phone just passively being in JM's car (though as Webthrush mentioned, there are other possible explanations). Also, though, he wasn't asked about this until March 2013, almost six months later, so his memory of the night might not have been 100% clear.

Yeah, one of the things we haven’t much mentioned here is how late (months after the crime) interviews with so many of the Thrill POIs took place. An attractive young lady goes to a rowdy bar, exposed to dozens, maybe 100+ males over a couple of hours, and a few hours later is found murdered — seems like a linkage worth exploring right away! Again, it looks like police latched onto ETJ right away, thought they had a wrap, and ignored other avenues of investigation — no telling what clues and evidence were lost in the process? At least that’s the impression left.

And again, if what we are told is true, the (male) DNA of the semen MATCHES the DNA on other objects (the rum bottle & pen if I recall correctly) -- that seems to me like pretty much a slam-dunk that not only was a male present at the crime but was likely the killer.
On a side note, I too have never seen the plausibility of MR being the person who made the 911 call.

Yeah, seems almost impossible to me that they would find the wrong DNA in the semen, on the pen, AND the bottle. And for all of these samples to match, seems like contamination is very unlikely to me.

Sometimes you lose your phone and can't find it. I don't think it's implausible.

I listened to it last night. It was a good overview of the case, IMO, and yes, a few of the details were wrong.

I had a couple of quibbles myself. The biggest one: I don't think the time of the pocket-dial voicemail is really in dispute anymore. There's never really been an indication that it's wrong at all, but we're past just having a single phone with a time-stamp at this point. LE says they've verified the metadata of the call. If it doesn't make sense that Faith was viciously assaulted in the club by 2 or 3 people and calmly left 45 minutes later, it points to a problem with the transcript, not the time-stamp.

Second, and I've seen it mentioned but never elaborated upon, but what's driving the idea that MR made the 911 call and not KR? Even if one suspects KR, that doesn't make a lot of sense. Is she so overjoyed that her plot succeeded that she handed the phone to MR to do a victory dance in the background? Does MR not question this or think it's weird enough to ever mention again?

I don't quite get this either. I am one of those who has always felt that KR knows more than she has told. I flip-flop quite often on whether or not she knew before or only after the fact, though I currently believe she did not know until after. I have never, however, thought for even one moment that it was MR who made the call, pretending to be KR. I just see no reason why MR would have done it, even if she was asked to, and also can see no reason why she would have been asked to. Just makes no sense at all to me. JMO

Even putting the worst construction on it (KR knew she was dead and asked MR to make the call bc she didn’t trust her acting abilities), I can’t see why she would ask MR to pretend to be her, or why MR would go along with that. You can’t even appeal to a “mean girl” conspiracy there and say MR was in on it (I refuse to take that seriously), since the only reason for MR to make the call is to get her genuine reaction.

I don't think it's impossible that KR would ask MR to make the call, and that MR would then do it. Some people really dislike making phone calls, even to order pizza or something. I think it's especially true of millennials when they're used to texting all day long. I could see it causing someone a lot of anxiety to think of making a 911 call.

I have mentioned before that I've considered if it was MR, mostly just because I had heard the 911 audio and MR's voice on the 20/20 special sounded fairly similar to me.

Just being devil's advocate. At this point I believe the 911 call was made by KR.

Right, I’m not saying anyone would find it suspicious if MR had made the 9-11 call instead of KR, since they both were together when they found her (actually, let me immediately retract that- people would absolutely say it was suspicious if KR asked MR to make the 9-11 call).

I was saying I’ve never understood why 1) MR would do it and pretend to be KR and 2) the purpose it would serve, even if KR were actually guilty.

I just bring it up because Gasparoli specifically mentioned it in his 5 year post, and it was also brought up in last week’s podcast, and I was just lost as to what the point of that line of questioning even was.

Here is a case summary I’ve put together to summarize many of the details we all get rusty on as time passes.

Evidence - The Note [8]:
attachment.php

“Faith had gone out the night before, stopped at Time Out, and brought food back to the
Apartment.” [10 @ 24:11]
In the center of the bed was a small white paper bag from Time Out fast food establishment with the note “I’M NOT STUPID ***** JEALOUS” written in ink [1 - Pg 22, 23, 10 @ 23:04]
“No visible blood on note.” [10 @ 24:44]
“Police say both the note and the pen have the killer’s DNA on it.” [10 @ 24:30]

Evidence - The “Buttdial” Voicemail:
Voicemail audio length: 2 minutes 59 seconds [4]
Police “used multiple sources to corroborate” timestamp of 01:23AM on voicemail. Based on the timestamp it occurred in The Thrill when FH was still alive. [7]
Forensic audio expert Arlo West believes audio contains voices of “Hedgepeth, at least two men, and another woman.” The timestamp on the voicemail could be inaccurate due to “a known software glitch existed in that time frame.” [7]
“20/20 presented the tape to a lab used by the FBI to see if it could be enhanced. They said it
could not.” [10 @ 28:57]
“What I’m hearing here is the melody of the T-Pain song [...] ‘Booty Werk’.” [3]

Evidence - Crime Scene [14, 10 @ 14:11, 13:17, 22:43, 13:52]:

Faith was found “dead in a bedroom, on a bed face up. [...] hanging off the bed over a pool of blood with her black shirt pulled up over her head; she had no clothes on from the waist down. There was blood spatter on the closet and a bloody tampon was lying beside her on the bed.” [1 Pg 29]
“There’s blood all over the pillows, like, in the comforter” [10 @ 06:32]
“A rape kit was performed, which revealed the presence of semen. DNA generated from the semen matched other DNA recovered from the crime scene.” [6]
“Semen is also discovered on Faith’s body. Investigators use it to generate a DNA profile.” [10 @ 14:15]
“He may also have perpetrated a sexual assault.” [10 @ 14:15]
“There was no sign of forced entry.” -CL [10 @ 14:11]
“Her family told ABC11 she was raped.” [11]
“Police say Hedgepeth had been bludgeoned to death with an empty bottle of rum.” [14, 10 @ 14:00]

Evidence - Autopsy:
“The official autopsy report does show contusions on Faith’s hands.” [3]
“Cause of death was blunt-force trauma. The autopsy report also detailed cuts and bruises on Faith’s arms and legs and blood under her fingernails.” [6]
“bruises and cuts on her knuckles” [17]
“blood-alcohol level of 0.02” [17]
“You look at all these head injuries and think about how they were inflicted. You’re talking about being as close as you and I, hitting you in the head with a bottle, while you’re looking at me, I’m looking at you. You can’t get much more personal than that.” -Former FBI Profiler Brad Garrett [10 @ 17:08]
“The autopsy report [...] says a bottle that was normally kept in the kitchen was found in the bedroom with tissue fragments and DNA on it.” [9].

“A total of $39,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.” [6]
“It’s really the central contradiction of the whole case; despite all the indications the killer was
inside Faith’s social circle, the DNA says the killer has to come from somewhere outside. Someone with at least one degree of separation.” [10 @ 32:41]

“Investigators have gathered hundreds of DNA samples” [6]
Police have pursued “over 1800” people, either for information or as a possible POI. [10 @ 15:37]
“I’ve been told that every male in the apartment complex was tested” -RH [2]
“There was the crack dealer and gun runner who was also a police informant. An unstable student who police say once threatened to shoot his mother’s boyfriend in the head. And the guy Faith walked out of the club with; cops say when he was later interviewed he made suspicious statements. All were later eliminated through a DNA process.” [1 @ 15:59]
“[BE] had been swabbed and eliminated as the killer.” [10 @ 33:33]
“At one time, [BE] lived with an ex-con with a violent past. Someone who police have not tested yet” whose criminal background includes multiple “assault on a female” [10 @ 33:33]

Suspsect Profile developed by CHPD and FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit [15]:

 1. The homicide suspect is familiar with the victim and may have lived near the victim in the past.
 2. The homicide suspect was unaccounted for during the early morning hours of Sept. 7, 2012.
 3. The homicide suspect may have made comments regarding the victim to close associates in the past.
 4. There may have been some change in the homicide suspect’s behavior after the murder (to include an unusual interest in the case) or a change in his performance at work or school.
 5. The homicide suspect may have left the area unexpectedly or in an unplanned manner. He may also have an explanation for the sudden departure.
“That would suggest to me that your killer knows the building, knows the location, and didn’t just wander upon this particular apartment building and randomly pick this door and walk through it and commit this horrendous act.” -Former FBI Profiler Brad Garrett [10 @ 17:29]

Suspect DNA Phenotype [5]:
“Snapshot [by Parabon Nanolabs in Virginia] predicts eye color, hair colors, skin color, freckling, face morphology, and ancestry.” [10 @ 35:40]
“This person is dark olive or light olive skin, brown or hazel eyes, most likely has black hair,
and most likely this person has zero freckles, but we can’t exclude that they have a few. We typically see
this profile, um, in Latino individuals.” [10 @ 36:29]

Very nicely done, Whiskers! Thank you so much for all the work you’ve put into this!

Thanks Whiskers. . . your time and effort is much appreciated!

Just to throw a new idea out there:

What if it was Faith's former neighbor? She was mocking him on Twitter when she heard him and his girlfriend having sex through the walls of her old apartment. He would fit because he used to live near her (which the FBI profile suggested). It would also explain the note. "I'm not stupid" (I know you were making fun of me) "*advertiser censored*" (You shouldn't have done that) "Jealous" (You just wish it was you that you'd overheard me with). Of course, we don't know if he fits any of the other criteria, or anything else about him. And why he seeks her out this night of all nights, and at 4:30 in the morning, would be a good question.

Thoughts?

Hmmm... I'm doubtful, BUT at least it definitely is (to me) a "new idea" (at least I don't recall ever hearing about this incident or individual before)... don't even know if he's discussable here?, but if so I'd sure be curious to hear more specifics of whatever is known.

Why doubtful? Can you elaborate?

Regarding whether it is allowable, I am pretty sure that Faith’s public social media is ok to discuss.
