Found Deceased CA - Sandeep 42, Soumya 38, Siddhant 12, Saachi Thottapilly, 9, Klamath, 5 Apr 2018

The car was either very damaged or a window or door was opened for all the items to be found floating, and now a body too. But apparently the door/window was not opened in time, or they were all already unconscious and not able to get out.

Well, if it was pouring rain the way it sounds, they probably didn’t have a window open before the fall. I’ve been hoping they were knocked unconscious, just to spare them the terror. But, maybe someone was conscious enough to open a door or window to try and escape, but the river just swept them away. Or, it’s very possible the windows were smashed either on the way down, or as the car was tossed about in the raging water, banging against rocks and stuff.

This article is from yesterday:

Gujarat: Parents of family missing in US hopeful of reunion
Sandeep’s parents, Babu Subramnium Thottapilly (68) and Rama (62), preparing to leave for the US, said that even 1% chance of their survival is enough to keep their hopes alive.

“Some parts of the car, like bonnet, have been recovered by local investigating agencies. We are hopeful that the family, which might have been caught in a bad weather, would be found,” said Dilip Irva, a close relative.

Today's development must be such a blow :(

I wonder why they pulled over? It was raining, so probably not to look at the scenery. Maybe to look at a map?

From the article it sounds like the car might have just drifted off the road. Maybe a medical issue, or just a distraction in the car. Looking at that area in Google Maps it doesn't look like a location a driver would pull off to look at scenery. The road shoulder is very narrow.

"The car kept going straight and it was going off the pavement," he said. "It's on two wheels and I'm going by and it's flipping over."

Berkowitz said he tried to go down to the embankment.

"I'm yelling, 'Hello, hello, anyone there?"' he said. "It's horrific."
