It has been reported that a 48 year old male drifter was with JB the night that Shannan was last seen. I understand that it was reported that per the drifter's mother he is back in Georgia. It is fairly common for snowbirds aka possible weather driven drifter spend the colder months down south in FL, NC, SC, or Georgia while summering in Long Island.

Since it seems that the 4gb were all last seen in the summer or warmer months, and so far none were last seen in colder months I'm thinking it might not be a bad idea to research more about the unnamed drifter. Where in GA might he be? Have any young women, particularly prostitutes gone missing during the colder months from wherever in GA he might have lived?

Thank you scandi! I can try. Any ideas on how to find out more about the drifter, what part of GA he may have traveled to and if there are any women similar to our gb4 that are missing or have been found dead? Off I go, but I'm open to ideas on how to search!
 
The drifter's mother only stated that she thinks he went to GA iirc. I wish we knew where he originally came from. Where does he "live" year round? Should we start a thread on the drifter? Paddling along here, figuring things out:crazy:.
 
I don't think we can really rely on the information that he is in Georgia. All we have is that his mother claimed he told her he was in Georgia. If I were trying to get lost I would not tell anyone where I actually was.

Yes, I think first finding out if there are similar type victims. It seems the victims usually remain similar even though SK's progress and often change their MO as they refine their ways or go into different stages.


I just read the last posts before mine and see your point. However Georgia might be a good starting point. I know we have a similar killing in Conneticut, right, then NJ and one girl was from Maine?


Georgia does seem a ways away from LI.

True. But, it is possible, and I would also like to know where the drifter is actually from, where he grew up and just more about him. We haven't heard much about him, but that doesn't mean he isn't important. I think that Shannan's terror began in jb's house either because she experienced something frightening, she was on drugs or maybe both.

It seems the drifter has almost been downplayed and little is known about him. But, he could be involved. He was at jb's house the night Shannan was last seen and where she ran screaming in terror. I just wish we could find out more about him.

A poster suggested looking at Shannan's Missing site. Maybe one of us could post there and ask questions about this drifter.
 
The special vehicle musing originally came from Just K. (Sorry, Just K, I did mean you but I always call you JK in my head!) Once s/he brought it up, I put it together with the idea that the perp might do more in the vehicle than just transport and dump the bodies. He has to kill, dismember, wrap, move to a vehicle (if not in the vehicle at an earlier stage), dispose of body/parts. And presumably clean up any and all locations where this is done.

In thinking through those stages and the comfort level of the perp in his dumping ground, I wonder if he does rely heavily on a type of vehicle, as TLCox suggested, a van.

What sort of business or roads/parks service or other job would issue or require a vehicle that in the summer months would not arouse interest parked off that beach?

Most likely, of course, would be a business for which one uses a private vehicle, rather than a company/state vehicle--just for privacy, and for its availability in time off, and for clean-up.
 
This is just 100% speculation on my part, but I imagine our SK having a very organized "killing place," maybe a rented storage unit where he keeps everything related to his hobby. My intuition is this guy does not live alone.
 
Okay, I recall an actual case where a rapist/murderer possible serial killer in the making raped, tortured and murdered a beautiful teenage girl after abducting her from her own driveway. He then kept in touch with the mother I believe? I think he may have talked about the victim's sister and how he was attracted to her? It was a horrible story. They caught the killer, so they learned more about him. The victim was not a prostitute, but the fact that he called the family several times reminds me of this killer. I wish I could recall more about the case to learn more about the killer. He may have a similar profile in some respects.

Thinking about the "world" that these victims were apart of, I think it is interesting to note was cutting off a hand/foot would signify. Hands are cut off because the person is accused/ guilty of stealing. It is particularly interesting to note that in the Quran people are encouraged to cut off the right limbs. I won't lie, when I hear about feet being cut off I am reminded of Roots (yes the movie)...no feet= no running.

Is it possible that, a person who has made it "up the chain" because of their ability to keep girls "in line" finally snapped?

I think, in order to understand the significance of the missing limbs we really need to know whether they were post mortem or not. JMOO

The idea of the transport vehicle being a utility or municipal type of work vehicle is interesting, I never would have thought of that.

Idk about the drifter idea. This guy would need regular Internet access.

The main thing to me is the burlap. That's not your everyday type of material. Because of the area, I can't see how a farmer could possibly be involved but how about a horse person ?

If I recall correctly, don't they think there's a link between these remains and remains found in NJ ?

I live on Long Island so I'm interested in this case.
 
Good idea about a horse person/burlap connection, downport. I assume there are still riding stables on LI. A friend of mine grew up on LI and took riding lessons back in the day...60's & 70's. Sorry for my ignorance of the area, I have never visited LI. (I live on a small island south of NY and I don't think I can get a visual on the vastness of LI, we have no stables here, lol!)

ONe idea I had about the drifter is that he contracts with the girls from a computer in a hotel lobby or public library. It would be more difficult to track him since he 'drifts' around, IMO.

The alleged link between the LI & AC murders have been discounted, last I heard. We have a wonderful case archive album in a sticky thread with all msm and photos. It is a great resource. (Thanks to fellow sleuth AmandaReckonWith!)

Yes, there are still riding stables throught the Island. Not like in the '80s & '70s, but still a lot.

Western Suffolk Co & Nassau Co are conjested, wall to wall suburban homes & shopping malls & strip malls. Really no open land at all aside from little league fields. However this Ocean Parkway strip is desolate. It's VERY hard for me to imagine anyone going there unless they were very comfortable with that part of the Island. He HAS to have a close tie to it, IMO.

Reading the LI Press article about the Manorville area got me thinking; there's nowhere for one of the few gun owners to shoot a gun outside of a range. The one in Manorville is the only one I know of besides one, I think, in Calverton. So I wonder if the guy is a registered gun owner ?
