Identified! KY - Gray, WhtFem 192UFKY, 24-35, In Refrigerator, Apr'85 - Epsy Regina Black-Pilgrim

I believe that the unid female victim was killed elsewhere and her body was dumped off of US 25E. It is possible that her killer could be a trucker.

She was killed at the scene. She was asphyxiated and "fresh" (the UID photos look like she could just be passed out) with no signs of strangulation. She was apparently shut into the fridge. She likely died due to suffocation from being shut in the fridge.

I read this and will find the link. Running late for work so in a rush.

*Just saw that it says it in her Doe file.

I have also read, long ago, a story where truckers were describing this girl and her using a CB. I tried looking for it not too long ago and couldn't find it.

Once something's no longer on a website, it is VERY hard to find it. Even if you have a subscription to a site, some stories seem to disappear sometimes.

It frustrates me that, on many threads, there are links to stories that are no longer available. I can't really understand from the rules... but would copy/paste-ing stories be some copyright problem? Putting a small "summary" is OK if the link works, but it's kind of an upsetting tease if the link dies.

It is a copyright issue. Websleuths rules state that we must copy no more than 10% of an article, although that's quite difficult if the article is very brief.

I know that's a problem when the article goes into the memory hole.

Here's a PDF link to a newsletter-style document.

I doesn't have any critical new information on "Superwoman," but is an interesting read. "Superwoman" is how I remember them (the old websites I am trying to find, if still around) referring doe many times because of the sticker on the fridge.

It also details a few other stories dealing with the missing in Kentucky. I love looking at maps in .pdf, but am not too keen on viewing written stories and the like. It's annoying and hard for me to keep track of the story.
Anyway, the part about "Superwoman" is on the 6th page.

I've tried the Wayback Machine (http://wayback.archive.org/web/) and it works for some dead pages and not for some. I guess it just depends on whether someone cared to archive them.
I am fairly adept at using the 'net, but don't know the lingo dealing with it. Wikipedia gives three links, the other two being some kind of variant but don't understand what it means. They are at the very end of article in "external links" part.

Has anyone had any updates as to if the UID was in fact Melody?

I live about 5 miles from where she was found. I moved here not too long ago and this sorta creeps me out!

Snipped

There were some indications that she may have come to the area from out of state. Some reports had it that she had been asking for a ride to North Carolina over a CB radio, possibly from the Pinville area.

This is confusing to me. I noticed one person thought it meant she was asking for a ride to NC over a CB radio and she was calling from the Pinville Area.

I thought it meant she was asking for a ride to NC and she was possibly from the Pineville area of NC. That is a town near Charlotte, Matthews, Mint Hill NC. Spelled with an E and the Doe Network had it without an E so are these two different areas? Pinville in Ky and Pineville in NC?

This freaked me out-I had a friend in WV , her "husband" killed her, put her in a refrigerator, drove right past a security guard ,and pushed her over the highwall. He was caught, and is in prison now. Still very eerie.

I know that due to the date reported missing, this potential may be incorrect but IMO Elizabeth Crawford has striking similarities to this Doe...thoughts?

Setting aside the DLC / Date of Discovery discrepancy, she looks somewhat similar, but I don't think she is this Jane Doe. Her head is more narrowly shaped at the temples, and her teeth are slightly uneven in front. I don't see that with the Jane Doe.

Also, her two front teeth don't sit ahead of the others in the same way as the Jane Doe's teeth do.

I wonder if anyone has ever considered Valerie Larkin?

She disappeared sometime between February - May 1985. She had a large chip in one of her front teeth. She was traveling to Virginia from California (but lost her bus ticket so her parents wired her $).

I am curious if Melody has been ruled out. She looked like a pretty good match!

This case bothers me. I was a child (a month away from 6) at the time she was found and didn't know anything about "hitchhiking hookers" (no offense to the victim; just a cool phrase I learned from Aileen Wuornos) when she was found.
But I (as many who are reading this) have seen the pic of her. While it may look like she's just got a hangover, she was just suffocated in a dark old refrigerator! There are worse sickos out there, but that sound like a HORRIBLE way to die. The fact that she still doesn't have a name makes it all the more worse.
I hope that SOMETHING (learning who killed her or at least who she really was) happens for this poor soul before long. She may very well not have been a great person, but she was indeed a person.
