James Spoonamore and his mother were kidnapped from their home by a family friend, according to James’ aunt Mary Batson.

Batson said James’ mother, Jessica Durham, was getting ready to go to the doctor and put her son in the child seat in their vehicle. The family friend arrived at the house and asked for help waking up Durham’s husband, David, who was in the house, Batson said.

Batson said 41-year-old Lonnie Belt, who was arrested Saturday night and placed in the Jackson County Detention Center, took mother and son. Belt is charged with kidnappings of an adult and minor, assault and tampering with physical evidence, according to jail records. But police have not identified him as a suspect.

At their home, James was in his mother's car when a family acquaintance, Lonnie Belt, showed up and beat his mother.

The mother's sister reports the following:
-The mom was "hit in the head two or three times her hands got tied behind her back...she got blind folded and then she was put in to a vehicle and she could hear James going, 'mommy you're bleeding,'."
-When the man stopped the vehicle, the mother's blindfold was taken off and her hands were untied.
-As the mother was trying to get away, Belt shoved her and she fell down a 100 foot drop off.

Crews Search For Missing Jackson Co. Boy

Investigators are not releasing a lot of information at this point, however family tells LEX 18 the boy's mother is in the hospital recovering from serious injuries. We're told the last time she saw James, he was in the woods and she doesn't know where he went.

Belt faces an evidence tampering charge because police say he painted over Jessica Spoonamore's blood at his residence.

Heartbreaking case. This can't be a good turn of events. :(

Bless his little heart. Praying for a miracle!!!! :please:

One of the articles cited that the tampering with evidence was that the mom's blood wasp painted over in his home. That means there was more than the one stop to beat her again and throw her over the cliff. What that poor child must have seen.

Anyone have a link where this live update can be watched? I can't find one
