NY Giant Victor Cruz visits home of 6-year-old Sandy Hook shooting victim Jack Pinto

A day after 6-year-old Jack Pinto was buried in a Victor Cruz jersey, the New York Giant himself arrived in Newtown, Conn. to visit the slain boy’s family.

Cruz rolled up to the Pinto home Tuesday afternoon trailed by five police cars as an escort. The 26-year-old receiver met with Jack’s family as a group of kids — some in Giants jerseys — tossed around a football on the front lawn.
...
As tears shed and rain poured, the young football fan was laid to rest during an emotional service in Newtown on Monday, wearing a replica jersey with the number 80.

Thanks just wasn't enough. Seems like for the last few weeks the NFL has shown us the worst in their players. Victor Cruz is showing us how great these men can be. Just a few minutes of his time ----will leave a GREAT memory in these little ones minds. Thank you Victor, you are a hero in my eyes.

Medical examiner seeks genetic clues to Adam Lanza's motives

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-204_162...r-seeks-genetic-clues-to-adam-lanzas-motives/

Asperger's "is simply not on the menu, in terms of what is wrong with this kid," he told the paper.

I don't know if I like where this is going. It's like we're looking for a diagnosis that would explain why he was predetermined to do this.
But I don't think there are any genetic diagnoses that automatically lead to mass murder either. There are some genetic things that cause increased aggressive behavior, and there is psychopathy/ antisocial personality disorder but diagnosing AL with them would be kind of iffy based on what we know since most people are saying that he was not aggressive or violent and didn't get in any kind of trouble with rules at school or on the wrong side of the law before the shooting.

IMO, I don't think they're going to find any diagnosis that will make us sit up and say, uhhuh, now we understand perfectly why he's a mass murderer of small children, it makes perfect sense now.

Whether he had Asperger or a personality disorder or some rare genetic syndrome it will be a combination of factors imo. Psychiatric/neurodevelopmental susceptibility, difficulties in relating to other people and their feelings, possibly decreased capability for empathy, past disappointments and causes for anger, bullying, family strife, acute stressors, feelings of rage and hopelessness, inability to feel and a hunger for excitement, desire for attention, obsession with guns, death, darkness, possible suicidal thoughts, drugs and addictions, perhaps online friends obsessed with Columbine and the like, minimal family support network, no friends, not enough mental health assistance, no affinity to any educational, work related, religious or other group that would give him a social framework, values and goals to work for ....etc.

Pick and mix, shake and stir, pour out one seriously messed up individual.

Now, add a coin for the random element. The seriously messed up individual is in sad state but even so he has choices. At several points in his life he has had opportunities to make decisions. These may be small things or big things but the decisions he makes influence his path through life. His diagnoses and all the other stuff that is going on have an effect on these decisions but they do not predetermine everything. Heads - I go this way, tails, I go that way.
Other people and random occurrences also have an effect on him. (Think of the movie Sliding doors -If you catch the train your life is like this, if you miss it this will happen instead.) There is an element of chance there somewhere.

If you take this disturbed individual, stress him quite a bit and then let him make a few coin tosses with disastrous results, he may eventually decide that doing the right thing doesn't mean that much to him and something very bad may happen. (OK so that's provided that he understands the concept "right thing". But I think AL did know that killing small children was wrong, that's why he killed himself when the police was coming. If he was psychotic he wasn't psychotic enough to be unaware of the wrongness of his actions. JMO)

Then let's take a group of people who see this very big, very bad thing that happened. It's so big that none of them are able to see the big picture. Like the blind men with the elephant. One person sees the family and goes, uhhuh, that happens in divorced families, divorce is bad. Another sees the games, yeah, I've always said those violent computer games are the devil. Third sees the diagnosis, etc.

JMO, I think the process by which one becomes a mass murderer is more complex than finding a single medical diagnosis, otherwise we would have many more mass murderers since there are tons of people with diagnoses. Asperger didn't make him a killer but neither did a genetic syndrome. It's a combination of risk factors and then his own choice.

We may never see the big picture here because the people who probably know the most about what made AL tick are both dead.

I hope it is okay to bump my own post from yesterday.. Maybe today someone who can give me advice reads it.

I think you should talk with professionals about the behavior you are seeing and ask if they are warning signs.

“There are no words that can describe the type of feeling you get when a kid idolizes you so much that they want to, unfortunately, put him in a casket with your jersey on,” Cruz said. “I can’t even explain it.”

Just had a total meltdown while wrapping Christmas presents for the little ones in my family. My heart breaks for all the families that will miss their angels opening their presents this Christmas :anguish:

Remembering by remembering what they loved.

Jack Armistead Pinto, 6

Jack was an avid participant in a wide variety of activities including flag football, baseball, basketball, wrestling, and snow skiing. Jack was an incredibly loving and vivacious young boy, appreciated by all who knew him for his lively and giving spirit and steely determination.

[Jack loved NY Giants receiver Victor Cruz.]

Noah Samuel Pozner, 6

[Noah loved tacos.]

Memorial contributions may be directed to the planting of trees in Israel.

Jessica loved horseback riding, learning about orcas, writing, and playing with her little brothers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Newtown Rotary Sandy Hook School Fund, PO Box 263, Newtown CT 06482.

James Radley Mattioli, 6 ¾

James loved to dive off the diving board at the Treadwell Pool, swim like a fish in both of his grandparents’ pools and ride his bike, proudly without training wheels. He often said, “I need to go outside Mom, I need fresh air.” He spent endless hours playing hockey with his best bud and cousin, George.

James was born four weeks early at Bridgeport Hospital. It was an ongoing quip that James came into the world early because he was hungry. He loved hamburgers with ketchup, his Dad’s egg omelets with bacon, and his Mom’s French toast. He often asked to stop at Subway for dinner for a ham sandwich, and wanted to know how old he needed to be to order a footlong sandwich.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in James’ memory to the James R. Mattioli Memorial Fund, c/o Newtown Savings Bank, 39 Main Street, Newtown CT 06470.
Services today, Wednesday, December 19, 2012:

Charlotte Bacon, 6

Charlotte never met an animal she didn’t love, and since the age of 2 wanted to be a veterinarian. She also enjoyed practicing Tae Kwon Do weekly with her dad and brother, where she relished kicking and throwing punches.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be sent to Christ the King Lutheran Church, 85 Mt Pleasant Road, Newtown CT 06470.

Daniel Barden, 7

He loved spending time with his family, both immediate and extended, riding waves at the beach, playing the drums in a band with his brother James and sister Natalie, foosball, reading, and making s’mores around the bonfire with his cousins at his “Papa’s” house in Smallwood, N.Y. Daniel was on the Newtown soccer team and the Newtown Torpedoes swim team.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Daniel’s name to the Sandy Hook School Support Fund, c/o Newtown Savings Bank, 39 Main Street, Newtown CT 06470, or checks may be dropped off at any Newtown Savings Bank branch location. To donate on-line, go to http://newtown.uwwesternct.org .

Contributions in Caroline's memory may be made to The Toy Chest, c/o St Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown CT 06470.

Chase Kowalski, 7

Joining the Cub Scouts was just one of his many interests. He could often be found in the yard playing ball, riding his bike or quad. Chase was always excited to attend the kids work shop at the Trumbull Home Depot.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Chase Kowalski Scholarship Fund, c/o Peoples Bank, 470 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe CT 06468.

Victoria Soto, 27

Some of her favorite things include flamingoes, of which you can never have too many (whenever we saw one, her family thought of her), the New York Yankees #11, and, most importantly, Christmas, as she was the only one allowed to pick out the tree and put up the lights.

Her friends were also such a big part of her life, especially her best friend and confidant Rachel Schiavone, whom she loved dearly. Ms Soto also leaves behind her loving dog, Roxie, who waited for her to come home everyday, and is still waiting, lost without her.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Victoria L. Soto Memorial Fund for Education, through the fFuneral home.

Dawn Hochstrung, 47

Beloved daughter, mother, wife, grandmother, and friend, she was a dedicated teacher who inspired her students to reach their fullest potential by instilling in them the importance of life-long learning. A fierce leader and educational activist, Ms Hochsprung was admired by her colleagues, students, and parents, particularly for her caring and nurturing nature. She often referred to her students as her “children” and wanted school to be a positive place and a safe haven.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dawn Lafferty – Hochsprung Memorial Fund, Waterbury Connecticut Federal Teacher’s Union, PO Box 2121, Waterbury, CT 06722.

These are only small glimpses mostly taken from the obituaries at http://newtownbee.com/

I will be adding for the services to come.

Hamill: Too many victims, too many goodbyes! Now is the time, Mr. President

Down by the library a man named Gene Zingaro, dressed in a dark suit, walked with his son, Jack, 11, from the funeral home where Jack Pinto lay in an open casket holding a wooden cross. Weeping parents Dean and Tricia Pinto took turns kissing their slain son’s forehead, dampening his cheeks with their tears. Then both broke down completely and began sobbing.

Their little boy was dressed in a red, white and blue New York Giants jersey bearing the number 80 of his favorite player, Victor Cruz. Dozens of boys in gray Newtown wrestling T-shirts looked on. They were crying for their friend and teammate.

“My son Jack here was on the same wrestling team as Jack Pinto,” said Zingaro. “He was new to wrestling but he was good. I saw him wrestle for the first time on Thursday night. Little did I know it would be the last time and that the next day those shootings would happen.”

:please::please::please:

Mother of substitute teacher, Lauren Rousseau, killed in Newtown massacre stunned: ‘We survive war, she dies teaching!’

“We have many people in our family who served in the military,” said Teresa Rousseau at the house that she shared with her daughter, Lauren.

“These are people . . . who survived missions in Iraq and Desert Storm unscathed, and my daughter walks in to teach a class and has her head blown off.”
:please:

Was this the 1st day in that class for Lauren? I know she had been subbing, but was wondering had she already been in this class.

And I am sure the teacher who is out on pregnancy leave feels awful too.

Three, including me. She acts as if she and Nancy were close, but I don't think that was the case. They might have been once, but certainly not lately.

Maybe she's trying to keep the attention off of the father by keep NL name in the news?

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) - In the wake of the Newtown, CT, shooting, many parents are wondering what they can do to keep their children safe at school.

That is why one Nashville father decided that if anyone was going to keep watch of his kids and their teachers, it would be him.

With no armed police and no metal detectors, at Gower Elementary, there is just Staff Sgt. Jordan Pritchard.

Way to go, Sir!! :)

The last Facebook communication between the two was in October of this year, less than two months ago.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...nd-coming-discovering-dark-family-secret.html

I'm not sure that indicates closeness, especially since she had to update Marsha on where Ryan was working and where AL was living. The article seems to really exaggerate the few points there are to seize on, but the convo itself just seems like idle chit chat and the kind of conversation I have with people that I know, but only update with a couple times a year.

NEWTOWN, Conn -- Daniel Barden wanted to be a fireman like his father’s cousins in New York City, whom he idolized.

So it was only fitting that at Wednesday's funeral for Barden, one of the young victims in the Sandy Hook massacre, dozens of firefighters joined the crowd of mourners.

The New York firefighters were clad in dress blue uniforms, many with white gloves, at the Wednesday morning at funeral services for 7-year-old Daniel.

Good Guardian article, from yesterday afternoon:

Newtown gunman Adam Lanza: what we know so far
In the wake of the Connecticut shooting, many apparent
facts have turned out to be false. So what do we know for sure?

Facts that seemed to offer possible clues to motive have turned out to be false: Adam Lanza, pictured, had never been a student at Sandy Hook elementary, as initially reported, nor had his mother Nancy had anything to do with the school.

The facts in this case change faster than anyone can correct the errors...

http://www.firstcoastnews.com/topst...dy-Hook-killer-was-a-former-student-at-school

NEWTOWN, Conn. -- The gunman who killed 20 elementary school students in their classrooms had once attended the same school, according to a school administrator and a former classmate.

Janet Robinson, superintendent of Newtown Public Schools, said Adam Lanza attended Sandy Hook elementary, although she could not remember the year.

"I know that he was a student at Sandy Hook at some point," she said.

Relatives have denied that Lanza attended the school. But at least one former classmate said that he apparently attended the school in fifth grade in fall 2002.

I'm not sure that indicates closeness, especially since she had to update Marsha on where Ryan was working and where AL was living. Quite true, and there was an apparent gap, but the nine-paragraph communique earlier in October does include the line, "Yah...that's what I thought too but apparently my father was married previously and actually lived in Ohio...secret life and all. Weird," which doesn't necessarily fall under general chit-chat

Thank you! There's a lot of sneaky, sniping going on about NL, and I believe it needs to STOP. It is my understanding she is a victim. All those who know what they would have done in her shoes, or think they would have known better need to stop. None of us know what we would or could have done, and none of us is perfect. This makes me sick.

This is true, we don't know. However, and I may be wrong here, I believe that he wouldn't have had access to all this weaponry if weren't for her. I think a lot of truths are about to come out. Too bad they weren't out before, 28 lives may have been saved.
