This is Eddie and Keela. Eddie is specially trained to detect the presence of a cadaver.

Are these the two dogs that were brought over from the UK Colomom?

Yes, they say they are the best in the world at what they do. I promise to hunt up some more detailed information ASAP and get it posted here.

I also posted this on the other cadaver thread.

From what I've read, one of the universities in Tennessee has something called The Body Farm in which cadavers in various stages of decomp and from different manners of death are studied. This is where the training of cadaver dogs began. Scientists are trying to isolate the different scents picked up by the dogs and turn them into chemical compositions so that they can be created in laboratories. Once that is accomplished, it will be possible to train the dogs using synthetic scents and much less expensive.

Thankyou for your time and effort Colomom:)

THE Brit sniffer dogs that unearthed vital evidence in the Maddie case have quit the police to become global crimebusters.

Springer spaniels Keela and Eddie blew the probe wide open when they apparently smelled death in the McCanns’ holiday apartment and hire car.

That was after Portuguese dogs had helped in the investigation, but had sniffed out little. Tests showed bodily fluids they found in the spare tyre well in the Renault Scenic were allegedly an 88% match of Madeleine’s DNA.

Now their handler Martin Grime has left South Yorkshire Police to become a freelance crime cracker.
He has set up on his own to use his expertise across the world and the dogs will travel with him. Last night Martin and

Eddie were in the US after being brought in to help the search for a missing woman. They are in Lafayette, Georgia, helping look for Theresa Parker.

Her husband, Sam Parker, has denied having anything to do with her disappearance.

The couple were in the process of getting a divorce when she vanished. FBI supremo John Parrish said: “Grime is renowned for his ability in forensics.”

Thanks, ceeaura.

The owner/handler and the dogs certainly have an excellent reputation.

Threasa Parker has a thread here at WS. I would post the link but I'm not sure how and I have to go to work, sorry. Please say prayers that these wonderful dogs help to find her. And that the dogs then go back to Portugal to help in the search at church and Fatima and find Maddie.

On scent of success:
Sniffer dog Keela earns more than her Chief Constable

By Karen McVeigh

HER detective work is unsurpassed, her dedication to duty during some of Britain’s most challenging murder cases unfailing.

Keela, a 16-month-old springer spaniel, has become such an asset to South Yorkshire Police that she now earns more than the chief constable.

Her sense of smell, so keen that she can sniff traces of blood on weapons that have been scrubbed after attacks, has her so much in demand by forces up and down the country that she is hired out at £530 a day, plus expenses.

That's not Eddie. Eddie is another springer spaniel that looks almost exactly like Keela. The black and white dog in this photo is a border collie named Frankie. Frankie and Eddie have the same job and are often sent in together. Actually, if you look at the markings on the head of the springer spaniel, that's not Keela in the photo but Eddie.

Doesn't she look like Fly from the movie Babe? Or is that just me?

The fact that Keela earns more than the Chief Constable should say something about her abilities and success rate. Dogs aren't like psychics, they don't get paid well to make comforting guesses and vague statements. They either have results or they end up with a lot of free time.

Eddie The Crime Dog To Help In Hunt For Missing 911 Dispatcher

**PagingDrDetect: Sorry for any confusion on the pictures, only posted as I found them...don't suppose you have links to back up your description....please?**

I found some links over at the CTV forum but I have no idea what threads they were. There was one interesting article that had some cute photos of Eddie and Keela along with their handlers. Other than their markings, the two look almost exactly alike. The top photo of Keela you posted is right... that's her (same photo I think was in the article I posted that joked how she got paid more than the Chief Constable). She has a brown patch on her right arm that covers the elbow and Eddie doesn't (his arm is just white there). Eddie also has a wider strip of white that goes from the nose over the top of the head where Keela's is much more narrow. There was also a really cute photo of Eddie dashing through the woods on a scent with his ears flapping and tongue hanging out wearing his orange vest (that's so adorable that the dogs have their own uniforms that they wear on a search!).

I'm going to try to do a google search for the photos... easier than plowing through all the threads at CTV (they're so unorganized there you can't find anything!). :banghead:

The South Yorkshire Police have a "Dog Diary" about Keela with lots of info and photos... it's written for kids, but it's informative...

This is mostly about Keela... Eddie is also mentioned but more as an afterthought.

From this article I posted previously, there's a discription of Eddie, Keela and Frankie...

When faced with a “clean” crime scene, Mr Ellis and PC Martin Grimes, Keela’s other handler, will first send in Frankie, a border collie, and Eddie, another springer spaniel, to pick up any general scent. Then they wheel in the big gun.
