I usually don't participate in the highly speculative/motive-based stuff very much ("just the facts" for me), but one thing that's always struck me about Jessica's photos--and to be fair I can't look at many of them, the photos of her alive/happy are more poignant and hurtful to me than looking at crime scene stuff all day--is the way she already sort of looked like a little grown-up lady. More so than with other kids that age, you could already see just what she'd look like as an adult. I'm sure part of it was the glasses, but part of it was her face and demeanor.

IIRC, Jessica's mom said that Jessica liked to think she was more grown up (i.e., like a teenager) and therefore tried to do more things independently (e.g., taking care of the telephone commnication with the family who was perhaps going to provide her a ride to school that Friday). I think her mother was allowing Jessica to take care of this kind of matter as a way of enabling her to "feel" grown up. I'm quite sure that her mom felt she was doing the right thing by not "hovering" over her and insisting on making all such calls herself. And this would have turned out perfectly fine most days. . . .just not this particular day.

MOO.

It's possible this fell out of a pocket while disposing of her body and/or climbing under the barbed wire, if he did. Perhaps he did not even know where he lost it, until now. I am not convinced yet that it was purposely left.

I sure hope a wife, girlfriend, ex or someone calls LE if they recognize it. Just make the call...even if you are not sure.

I agree, it also could have been around his neck on a chain or something like that and broke off. I feel like it was an accident and that he did not leave it on purpose, but who knows.

Close match?

It is frustrating when ideas and questions are repeated over and over, but that is the nature of a message board. NO ONE can keep up with all of the posts, and some of us don't mind answering posters questions, even if they've been answered repeatedly. These threads move way too fast sometimes, and people may not have the time to go back and find the answer they are looking for. If you don't want to answer someone, don't. Just scroll on by......

I'm not sure that was the reason for the comment though. JMO

It does say. Note the last part and the use of the word killer.

I meant that it doesn't say whether it was found with Jessica's body, her backpack, the scene of the attempted rape, or somewhere else.

The comment about it not belonging to her family has me leaning toward it being in or with the backpack, but as you point out that line makes it sound more like it was at the murder scene.

I am a fifth grade teacher and I actually thought that Jessica looked younger and more "sheltered" than most of the fifth grade girls that I teach or see at school. I think she really looked like a sweet, animal loving, happy ten year old with big dreams. I love the pictures of her still playing with dolls. That is not something that I hear of or see anymore and it is something that I loved to do at that age..many years ago. I teach in California, but I would think the kids in Denver and the suburbs would be much the same. I think that Jessica looked like she liked fashion and I thought her outfits were really cute and appropriate for her age.

Someone on the WPD facebook page said it looks like a
"Tau Cross Rosary Ring"

Here is a picture of what it looks like:

Amazon.com: PLC Mens Womens 2 1/4" Brown Wood Bead Tau Cross Cord Finger Rosary Ring: Jewelry

(Hope it's ok to show this link?)

Yes, that looks very similar to the ones the guys around here call pocket rosaries. You slip them over your finger so you can count the beads and pray while you're walking or sitting, without being overly conspicuous.

ok, just throwing this out there; what if the cross was in her backpack, her mother had seen it before but didnt know where she got it from??
:truce:

Could the zigzag be the "S" in Slayer (thrash metal band)?

Sure could be. Symbol is the same. They are kind of an older band, so maybe it's just coincidence, but I have to say that just gave me a chill, considering they have a song titled Public Display of Dismemberment.

(ETA-the song lyrics do seem to be more suggestive of a protest/rebellion kind of song, not murder, fwiw)

I know the rules (and I hate perpetuating the theory) and I know the mods will likely zap me for posting this but...

:couch:

the "lightning bolt" zigzag has meaning in the satanic practices. (lucifer's fall from grace/heaven)

If it belonged to a victim of an attempted abduction, LE would *know* that. They would then *know* the item connected the two cases together and wouldn't be asking for help and releasing photos of it. Respectfully, your statement seems implausible considering the press release and photos seeking help. KWIM?

It is an interesting idea. What if they know the cases are linked but don't know the perp? Maybe they are hoping he wore the cross after taking it off the may victim.

it sure does...

Have you ever seen the police show a piece of evidence to the public like this before DeAnn?

I'm not DeAnn but I have.

April Tinsley (Ft. Wayne, IN). The case is 24 yrs. old but LE recently released information about a sex toy that was found with April's corpse and have released information about the case in the past. I was shocked that a photo of it was on the front page of the local paper as I would not want my young child to see and and ask what it is. This creep has taunted the police and public by leaving a message on the side of a barn and by leaving notes with sexually explicit content, pornographic photos of himself and used condoms on little girls bikes in the area as recently as 2004. The sicko is still at large and LE has a FULL DNA profile but they cannot match it. April was abducted while walking in the neighborhood on Good Friday. There is that 3 day holiday weekend reference again.

She has a thread here and lots of info. on the web about her case.

I would think if that was what it was for, it would be displayed more prominently, instead of sort of sliding off the side.

Hm. If this was on a keychain that the person carried in a pocket, I wonder if it got scratched from the keys or other objects in the pocket? The zigzag might be a symbol, bit it looks sort of random, too.

They called her mother and she described Jessica's, which fit the description of that one.

Exactly! One of the follow-up comments on the WFB page said it looks like a Tau Cross Rosary Ring
I don't think it's a Tau cross, they're normally shaped more like a T (but can have a small section on top for connecting a chain.)

Found this on Ebay
St. Michael Charm Bracelet

That looks close. I hadn't thought about charms, but I had wondered about a key chain - which doesn't really make a lot of sense. My first thought when seeing it was a Celtic cross, but they usually have a circle around part of it. They sometimes look a lot like this one, so some place that sells occult items might sell them. Tarot cards, astrology books/charts, witchcraft books, gemstones, etc.
