Storm warnings issued for Texas, La.

MIAMI - A tropical storm warning was issued Wednesday for parts of the Texas and Louisiana coasts as a tropical depression intensified in the Gulf of Mexico. Rain was already falling in the two states, and forecasters warned it could cause flooding.

At 11 a.m. EDT, the ninth tropical depression of the Atlantic hurricane season had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph and its center was about 85 miles south-southwest of Galveston, Texas, the National Hurricane Center said.

Senior hurricane specialist Jack Beven said about 5 to 10 inches of rain were expected along the middle and upper Texas coast and in southwestern Louisiana, with some areas possibly getting as much as 15 inches. This has been a wet summer for Texas, so the extra rain could be "enough to create some considerable flooding," he said.

The depression was moving toward the north near 6 mph and was expected to cross the Texas coast later Wednesday within the warning area between Port O'Connor, Texas, and Cameron, La. A tropical storm watch was issued for Louisiana from Cameron to Intracoastal City. Forecasters expect the depression to become a weak tropical storm with sustained winds of about 45 mph by the time it makes landfall.

I hope it won't be too bad! We are traveling to the Houston area on the way home from Santa Fe. We are just past Lubbock. I love my new iPhone. I have been able to read and post here all while my sweetie has been driving. :D Yall wish us luck that we won't get washed away tonight and tomorrow morning:(

Good luck wading through that! I just came back from vacation too, from Alaska and Canada. Very expensive for Internet, sounds like the I-phone is the way to go! Thanks and take care!

:D Alaska and Canada are so beautiful. I hope you had fun. We stayed in Santa Fe for a week and then we went to the Grand Canyon and saw both the south and north rims. Now we are going back home! :( All good times must come to an end! LoL :D

Stay off any exits on hwy 59 and most of those on I-45, avoid the southwest and West University/Memorial/Katy areas.

You probably know that already, but there are certain streets and areas that flood that the locals in that area know but the average person just trying to get to the other side of town--no way!

Safe travels! I think if you are coming tonight you will be okay. Before this sucker sits, trains, and just rains on one area for hours on end.

HOUSTON (Sept. 12) - Tropical Storm Humberto formed off the Texas coast Wednesday, promising to bring more rain and possibly flooding to a state coming off one of the wettest summers in more than 50 years.

Forecasters warned residents along a 270-mile stretch of coastline extending into southwestern Louisiana to brace for the storm, which was expected to slosh ashore south of Houston overnight Wednesday.

Between 5 to 10 inches of rain was expected, with some spots possibly getting as much as 15 inches. But authorities said evacuations were not necessary.

"This obviously isn't an evacuation event or hurricane ," said John Simsen, emergency coordinator for Galveston County. "It's too close to be in a position where it's going to develop that much. "However, it looks to be a prolonged rain event and some pretty substantial tropical storm-force winds."

We won't make it all the way in tonight. We have been driving all day today and we are just approaching Fort Worth. I think we just might have to get a hotel and stay put for another day or two if it gets bad tomorrow.

The bottom has opened up here close to New Orleans already. I hate when it rains like this. It floods!

Everyone in this mess stay safe and off the roads if you can.

Now they are saying it will hit farther north so the Houston area might not get to much rain

we have had so much rain already over the summer,,, I am hoping for the best, the clouds are moving in, it's much cooler, but no rain as of yet

I just hope it stays on track to hook ENE b/c we soooo need the rain here in 'Bama!!!
