Is Greymetal even finding time to sleep? She is amazing!
 
This is so exciting! Even his height, in comparison to his friend, seems to be on the shorter side...and the pale, freckly skin, the wavy hair, and the pierced ear. Do we know when the photo was taken? His hair could have easily grown to shoulder length in a matter of months. Also, the t-shirt appears to be his style. Out of curiosity, I contacted Liquid Blue (official GD apparel manufacturer) and asked when that design (space your face) first appeared-just to be sure (although I'm confident it was originally much earlier than '95.) Just trying to make sure the photo could not have been taken later than '95. The other man's shirt is hard to make out...but that might help narrow it even further, if we can identify that...

Does anyone here have a relationship with the user "trying2id"? She once posted that she had spoken to someone that that had seen the full autopsy photos and they gave her an idea of what colour the kid's hair appeared to be.

Trying2id is passionate about this case - I've found old posts of hers in ancient T****x forums. If we can get her re-involved, perhaps she could show the pictures of the unidentified Jay/Jason to whomever had seen the autopsy photos and get their opinion.

The "Space Your Face" design first appeared in 1992. Unfortunately, it's still sold today...so not conclusive either way.

First of all, thanks Kaliste for passing on my message! I am having a lot of trouble posting to WS on my phone at work. Reddit is much easier because there is an app - Do any of you have any suggestions for accessing WS on an iDevice? :)

Second Kaliste.. You busted me. I'm actually a vampire, I don't need to sleep! :D

Absolutely LOVING the brainstorming and enthusiasm that I am seeing here. All of you are coming up with GREAT ideas and great suggestions. All of them hold weight, and all of them make us that much closer!

Most of you by now know my situation and why my posting is a bit all over the place; I'm back at work. I read through the threads every night and I am really trying to reply to everything.

If you see something that you think absolutely needs to go into the updates, or maybe added as suggestion, PLEASE message me and I will edit my main post to reflect this :) I have been leaving them for now because you are all working together so well that everything seems to be getting covered!

For those who don't know; I was contacted by someone in the entertainment industry who has stated she would repost our Imgur links to her FB and twitter. I have been contacted by a media outlet (who I have done some research on, and I LOVE their writing!!). Can't say for certain that more will come of it; But I needed you guys to know to see just how far he has gotten!

RS&BBM ... Tapatalk is the app I use to connect with WS through my phone. Works really well.

Since Hurricane Hugo hit this area in 1989 there has been an enormous amount of growth here. Many people and families were transplanted here during and after the clean up and rebuilding of the area. So, IMO this boy could have been a local and prior everyone knew everyone if that is the case.

This is also an area that has a navy base and an airforce base.

Also Folly Beach has been the local surf spot and the free spirited, hippie location in the area.

There is not much of a music scene here but the Windjammer Bar http://www.the-windjammer.com/wp/ located on Isle of Palms had bands back then and may have been a local spot for a kid.

I do not use facebook myself or I might be getting these posted where I feel they would be most helpful in the local scene. These are my opinions only from knowing the locals and the city as a whole area. I hope I was able to help in some way. Good luck and great work.

Great idea with the bars in Myrtle Beach. Someone needs to get flyers up there.

Charleston local here as well! My older sister (now 42) hung out there all the time and was hugely into surfer/hippy culture. I remember her going to the bar a lot because her friend managed a lot of bands that performed there. It's a longshot but I just messaged the band manager via Facebook to see if she might remember him ever being there. I live in Los Angeles now or else I'd put up fliers. Hopefully 'WideOpen' has time... and thanks to you again for jogging my memory on this.

Let us know if you hear back from the Windjammer. My daughter knows the owner and am sure we could get some info posted out there as well as other spots.

I have several ideas but am somewhat social media handicapped, lol. I am hoping to have my daughter help me but she is really tight on time.
I can cover this area (Mt. Pleasant/Isle of Palms/Sullivan's Island) and have a small business here that brings me in contact with bars and quite a few people in this age bracket.

Ask your sister what bars were over on Folly during the early 90s or where the bands played in the downtown area. Things have changed a lot and I wasn't living here at that time.

Also, am waiting for an "official poster" or something to print into flyers or post online. I do not have the skill to put one together but know one of the amazing WS folks here is probably on top of it. Please link if available anyone. Thanks.
 
So, in going back and reading old threads, I came across a post in the thread "What are your theories" from "Zapped" in May 2013. Which would fit the new leads. If somebody already mentioned this, then I apologize. Also, I'm not sure if I'm doing the "quoting" thing right. Sorry...

I dont really have a theory on this but this guy looks an AWFUL lot like a guy wearing a tye died shirt a friend and I picked up on Route 1 from Florida to Va when I was 21....That was 22 years ago so Im not sure the math is right.This guy was a HUGE Grateful Dead fan who told us he was travelling the country following them wherever they played.

I remember him because he actually saved our lives.We were having trouble with our catalytic converter which I fixed before we picked him up at a service station in SC I believe. I had been driving 10 hours straight under very stressful conditions (30mph top speed going across the Savannah bridge in rush hour traffic) until I knocked a hole in the converter with a hammer.

I was falling asleep behind the wheel and my friend didnt have a license. I actually dozed off and ran off the road a number of times before this guy talked me into letting him drive. I asked him if he was going to kill us in our sleep and he laughed and said no so I handed him the keys. I was THAT tired to trust a total stranger to drive.

We dropped him off in Richmond Va about 6 hours from his goal of New York.

After 20 years I cant remember much detail at all. I did sit down and try to recall his name and even sent an email to my friend who was a passenger but so far no response.

Im not even sure on the state we picked him up at.It could have been any state between Va and Florida.I do know that I slept for at least 6 hours while he drove us safely back to Richmond Va. That combined with me driving for a number of hours prior to him taking the wheel points to either South Carolina or Georgia.

Have you ever been so tired from driving that you've run off the road a couple of times because you've fallen asleep behind the wheel? My friend and this guy were begging me to stop and let anyone else drive before I killed us all and I was so tired I was fighting them about it.

I think thats part of the reason why my recollection is so fuzzy on this in addition to the time thats passed.

I wonder if law enforcement checked out leads on runaways in the southern states? I'm about 80 percent certain that the hitchhiker told me ran away from home at 16 and had been following the Grateful Dead ever since.

If I can recall any other details or my friend gets back to me Ill post here as soon as time allows.

I want to point out that Im not saying this for attention or any reason other than genuinely wanting to help.I know there have been issues with things like that on this and other crime forums in the past due to mentally ill individuals, people wanting attention, trying to fit in etc. I know I'm new and that makes me automatically a little suspect at least in the eyes of a few so I wanted to clear that up.

I joined the forums to research a possible connection to Robert Hourihan and my fathers best friend whos been missing for 16 years named Waverly Sharpe. In looking through the forums I saw The Grateful Dead Fans pic and he looked familiar.
