Another cowardly mass shooter who didn't even have the guts to face what he did to innocent people. Prayers of healing and comfort to the victims and their loved ones.

I agree that what you posted does indeed cover some of the murderers actions. So far in this case it's a mystery as to what could have caused this break. The facts so far point to a premeditation and careful planning on how to cause the most casualties. I keep expecting to hear the "missing link".

I think we're actually getting somewhere, actually.

There was a post earlier in the thread about him flying to Alaska to shoot for hunting, and the post said about him doing everything *big*-- big gambling sums, big game hunter.

In someone without money who is a sociopath (sorry if that should by psychopath) we might look for background doing things like hurting family or neighbourhood pets or wild animals. But I used the Schindler's List scene analogy, the god analogy, he was picking off running people and not caring at all about them as human beings. I can imagine him having the same feelings when he went hunting, scare them, watch them scatter and run in all directions and then shoot them down, and that's what he was doing to these people.

How/why anyone could/would plan this for weeks or months in advance I can't imagine! But that could be the history, where there's no apparent criminal history, this is his history, this is how he's fed the sick need in the past, and now he's progressed onto the biggest game of all (in his sick mind)... humans. With lack of empathy there might not be much difference in his mind between an animal and a human...that is something that seems to be relatively consistent with a sociopathic attacker, that they start on animals but they progress to humans as they don't have empathy for pain and fear in either, instead they get a kick of of it, and attacking a human the way they attack animals is like a dream for them.

My bet is that his behavior has always been "off" and possibly deteriorating for some time. It always always comes out in the wash. And there are always signs in hindsight. They are either noticed by individuals interacting with the person and dismissed or just entirely missed before the event.
I have yet to read about one single mass shooter where 100% of people have said "This came out of absolutely nowhere, he was a totally well adjusted person". There are always signs, some kind of significant stressor that precedes a change in behavior and demeanor, or a lifelong "Yeah, he was always off".

His brother stated that he hasn't seen him in 1 or 2 years since "Moving him" (what is that about? ) from Melbourne to Mesquite. Why would a younger brother have to "Move" his older and apparently extremely wealthy older brother from one place to another. The choice of language is strange and maybe some insight into this man's functioning.

Also, the brother hasn't "seen " him in 1 or 2 years but was in contact via text recently regarding Irma. Maybe his brother hadn't noticed changes in his behavior/habits because he is not truly in close contact with him from what I sense from his interview and that is why this is like an "asteroid" that fell out of the sky. He also said "Find out who he got the machine guns from" What does that mean? His brother did what his brother did. I'm not sure why it matters so much who he bought his weapons from. The point is he bought them and used them to slaughter innocents en masse.

Just my take on this but he probably did the window breaking and began shooting almost simultaneously.

I noticed today that both windows had no shards left that I could see. I wonder if he purchased thick tape and put it all over the glass so it wouldnt shatter everywhere when he broke it. Did it ever show glass shards below his room? He could have even bought those suction cups to remove the window after he broke it with the hammer. I think that kind of glass does not shatter into sharp pieces but ends up more cracked all over instead but stays intact. If so, all he had to do is start removing the large cracked pieces one by one to get the entire glass out of both windows. I think he came fully prepared.

Wonder if he and his roommate were involved in a card counting scheme?

So strange because as an accountant/auditor, he would have to know that his money transfers would be noticed.

Weird.

I was looking for this about the money being sent to the Philippines*. He may have filed the appropriate paperwork. I've a feeling that this money went into an account for either her, or one of her family members. I could be wrong. It's happened before. I'm not completely comfortable that they won't learn more once they start digging into her history, and, start questioning her, if they get the chance. They may have to go to her.

Please don't laugh, because I know this may seem way far out there, but I'm just trying to make some sort of sense of this. The Philippine's President is not shy about launching verbal attacks, and this past July, he launched another on the U.S....

This happened in 1901 but the Phillipine's President is wanting the Balangiga bells back that the U.S. took, when the Phillipinos resisted American colonization. During the resistance:

**
About four dozen Americans were killed, prompting swift and brutal retribution from the United States. Brig. Gen. Jacob W. Smith ordered his men to kill anyone who could bear arms. To him, that meant anyone age 10 and older.“I want no prisoners. I wish you to kill and burn, the more you kill and burn the better it will please me,” Smith said.

Could it be something like that? Retribution? The money sent to the Philippines, his gf/wife is from the Philippines, the Philippine's president is not shy about verbally attacking the U.S. over wanting their bells back, and horrible events that happened during the colonization. (The Philippines was our territory until 1946. There are obviously old wounds that have not healed.)

I know it sounds crazy, but so is murdering 58 people attending a concert.

I agree with - good insight. This might take time to unravel.

It won't be popular to say this, but there might be some medical/mental issue that caused this desire to plan and carry out mass murder. I'm not 100% sold on that idea, but I'm keeping that theory on the table.

My theories are:
* Physical or mental health issue that impaired his thinking (tumor or mental illness, for examples)
* Revenge against ______ (fill in the blank)
* "Big" suicide. He likes to do things in a big way, but not necessarily a showy way. So he quietly commits suicide, but "big."

What are some more theories? Maybe that will give us something to do while we await more info.

Edited to add: By "quietly" commits suicide, I mean he planned it all out without giving clues of his intention....and then it was "big."

Just wanted to say thanks for the thoughts and prayers. Our friend is in ICU she was shot in the head and they are unsure if she will pull through.

Adding my prayers for her, you and the rest of her family and friends.

Mannnnnn, the witness sharing his story on CNN right now. Harrowing.

So he was only pretending to make a living off the gambling and the money was coming from somewhere else? Maybe. I don't know how to explain sending the money to the Philippines. Laundering. Paying someone off. Giving the money away. Or... ? Could he have been planning on running and starting over there?

I don't want to get too far out of the park, but he could make a tidy sum, a cut, for himself by laundering for someone. head of PH govt is Dutarte and he is a shady character. He is madly killing drug dealers without trials and could be collecting their money and weapons. Maybe way off base even suggesting an international issue it.... still wouldn't explain massacre here.

Gunshots are very hard to determine where they are coming from and, if they are gunshots at all. Vegas is always having some sort of big function going on and fireworks would not be out of the realm of possibility. People in the area of gunfire often mistake it for something that it isn't.

I've been reading from the beginning but I want to say this is very true. Within a few months of moving to TX I was stopped on a highway due to a police chase going on. They had blown out the suspects tires in incoming traffic just ahead of me. As he lost control and came across the ditch/divide he came out guns blazing with police in hot pursuit. He carjacked the guy 4 cars in front of me, he didn't shoot the guy. As he went through the median the police started firing. I had no clue at first. There must have been 50 rounds fired as he sped off. After the first few rounds that sounded like firecrackers, I realized and ducked down behind my dash. They did connect through the vehicle and he succumbed to a gutshot wound down I45.

It takes a bit of situational awareness to realize those are gun shots.

As to the people in the video, I think some were intoxicated and not thinking clearly. Others thought they were helping by pointing out which direction the shots were coming from. My husband is a conspiracy theorist and has some ideas.

IMO I think it was a guy who got a lot of money in a lawsuit years ago and lived a flashy lifestyle and things started to crumble. His domestic situation was iffy. Vegas messed up his childhood with his father. Vegas gave him the cash, Vegas took it. People celebrating and having fun were a place to take out his anger and hate. I don't think it was religious or political. I think he was an angry old man and this was the emphasis of "get off my lawn".

Don't blame the gun, the gun didn't do this, the person behind it did. Mine sit comfortably in the closet until I take them to the range. They travel without issue. Gun laws only limit guns to law abiding individuals. Those with a will, will find a way.

its all pathetic quite frankly I have not sen the latest numbers -- now of course I will but right now my last was too high really messed up stuff

where do you even run to?

total powerlessness

has to be mental illness imo

which I have learned many think is BS obviously my career has shown different

Since he was a high roller the casino would most likely cater to him and let him have his choice of rooms.

We have rewards at a hotel chain. We can do everything online, including the key, via the app. I can also pick the room I want. So we don't even go to the desk. The rewards are in my husband's name, but I use them when I am by myself.
I am guessing the Mandolay has electronic entrance on their doors. If someone is a rewards member (especially if he is elite) they bend over backwards to make it easier.

By all accounts so far, this murderer was a law-abiding individual. IMO, no civilian needs to have an automatic weapon.

No doubt, this story will lead to a discussion about gun control. Sorry, but the families of the 59 people who were slaughtered last night will likely have something to say about that.
